Aha, the first hatchling was breaking shell! Both Kordelia and Ulteritohr focused on Fallen Leaves, eyes wide. Kordelia's eyes had never left the eggs, so when they started moving, she was already poised to watch. Ulteritohr was alerted by gasps of other, conveniently npc candidates, and he too looked over in time to see a green's hindquarters poking out of a shell.
but she wasn't the only one hatching, either. Another egg cracked faster, revealing a stunning blue. Kordelia hummed in appreciation-- he was lovely. The green finished shortly after him, and they exchanged hellos-- better then exchanging claws, anyway. Kordelia's focus shifted to the green: first hatched, a green. She was superstitious, and she knew that a bronze was an excellent sign.. but a green? Well, it wasn't a bad sign, not really. She was large, though, and dark, and healthy, and that was surely a good thing.
As was the easy impression of the blue. He only needed to inspect a few candidates before finding the one that fit for him. Kord's lips pursed slightly, but there was a touch of approval in her eyes. Of course, she was jealous that she hadn't been chosen.. but, well. A healthy dragonet impressing was worth more then her jealousy, and she knew that quite clearly.

Petal woke to hear the call for a Hatching. She was late! The Candidate rushed to get her robe on with angry tears in her eyes. Once that was done she headed to the Sands where she bowed to the Golden Queen and asked to Stand. Why did she have to be late of all days? Petal was upset that she had missed the beginning of the Hatching. A Blue had Hatched and Impressed already and Petal was even more upset by it. She waited quietly for the Queen to acknowledge her arrival. Petal knew that the Queen would be upset. Petal was of course.
The young girl waited quietly for a response and watched the eggs with interest. Was there one in there for her? Who knew. Only the Dragon Hatchlings did and Petal was already late. She could not believe she had overslept. What kind of Rider (or Handler) would she be if she did this on a normal basis? Petal knew she had to start getting up earlier if she wanted to be sure she didn't miss things. The girl felt excitement beneath the saddness.

Jillalene inclined her head as the blue passed down the line of the girls, feeling a pang of sadness and sympathy for Yufa. Some of the other candidates she'd worked with since arriveing had told her that the girl had also stood for Loraketh's clutch. She prayed that Yufa would meet her bondmate during todays hatching and applauded her strength at staying in hopes of impressing one of today's dragonets.
Jill's disappointment was not in residence long as the magnificent blue found His. She smiled at Akira, sending her a silent congratulations as she watched the lithe little green making it's way through candidates.
She knew she would be extremely lucky to impress with any of the dragonets, and didnt have her hopes set high. She had heard far too many candidates failure stories and taken them to heart. Still.... She gave an inner smile as her gaze flickered from the little green to the crystal skies egg that was trembling and rocking. Even if you're not mine... I cant wait to meet you...
(cant think of much for Dal atm... will reply for him later)

He hadn't expected this. He hadn't expected the noise, the smell of the egg yolk and the feeling of excitement and want coming from all the Candidates around him. He kept forgetting to breathe and then his chest would hurt and he'd gasp in a breath. A scorching, hot, dragon tasting breath.
Two dragons had hatched, a green and a blue AND he'd seen the blue impress! He was living a Harper tale. A loud, smelly HOT Harper tale. Alright, the heat was mentioned sometimes, but the sound of the people cheering and talking, the dragons and hatchlings making noise was not in the tales. He'd expected a dignified quiet and a low humming sound. This was far noisier and far more real.
The Queen was looking less fierce. That was good to see. It didn't feel like if he sneezed he'd be lunch anymore. She still loomed over them though, so he'd best sneeze into his sleeve not onto an egg or a hatchling.

The green hatchling had paused in her search for a moment when it became obvious the blue had found his rider, but her own insistent hunger drove her to continue looking through the candidates. She passed one girl, then another, until finally she came to Akilu. As soon as her eyes locked on the girl, she crooned happily and butted her head against her chosen's side. Akilu, there you are, Mine! I am Lorendyth, and I am your green. More importantly at the moment, I am very hungry. Now that my brother and I have found our riders, why don't we get something to eat? She ended the question with a small whine of impatience as her eyes whirled gently. Lorendyth: 21 feet at full growth Egg: Fallen Leaves Impressed to: Akilu Personality: Witty, silver-tongued, clever, likes to be around others, quick learner, romantic Appearance: slender limbs with powerful shoulders and hindquarters. Hide is a very dark green, except for the underside of her neck, belly, and tail, which is a much lighter shade of green. Other eggs were rocking in earnest now, and one was getting ready to crack open. It was the Pearly Dream egg, and a sizable crack appeared straight down the middle, until the shell finally fell apart in two halves. Where the egg had lain, there was now a dragonet gazing eagerly around him and making Iskra sigh in despair. He was clearly an opal, despite the blue speckles mottling his white hide. She stroked Maeleth's muzzle in reassurance as she tried to keep her thoughts away from her dragon. It seemed Maeleth was no more free from the effects of these new colors than Loraketh was. The opal seemed blissfully unaware of what the junior weyrwoman was thinking, and he gave a thoughtful and optimistic sort of hum as he climbed to his feet. With his short legs yet relatively long neck and tail, he seemed in danger of overbalancing before he found his feet, but he soon got his body under control. He gave a curious glance at the other eggs, but when none of his siblings gave any sign of hatching immediately, he turned his attention to the candidates. He looked methodically over the male candidates, not quite sure what he was looking for but sure he would know it when he saw it.

Fallon covered his mouth to hide a yawn as the first eggs began to hatch and the younglings inside Impressed. It wasn’t as though he were bored though. In fact the mornings events were rather interesting, he’d never admit it though. It just it was so bloody early still. Why couldn’t the eggs have chosen mid afternoon instead of the crack of dawn? It would have helped prevent a lot of late candidates that’s for sure.
Shaking his head at the thought, Fallon ruffled his hair and idly rubbed at the long scar stretching across his throat. Watching the first two hatchlings the thief pulled a face as the pair sauntered straight past the guys and made a beeline for the females. He scoffed but continued to watch the dragonets as they wobbled over and quickly found Theirs. He shrugged it off, HIS dragon would be much better then a spotty blue and tiny green. Another yawn was about to grip him when the third egg finally hatched and out spilled a multicolored blob with wings. “What in the-…?” Speaking out loud, Fallon eyed the rainbow with wings.
The sight of this Opal did not deter him though but in fact gave him hope. He had already seen and met the young Ista Garnet and his Rider and he was magnificent. That’s the kind of dragon he dreamed about, someone who demanded respect, held an air of commanding authority, a vicious fighter, and who held the inner workings of a true world conqueror. Fallon smirked at the idea and eyed the remaining eggs once more. Were there to be any more secrets hidden in this clutch or was it going to be sickening rainbows and butterflies?

Akira smiled when she saw a blue hatch, and then wait for his green sister to hatch, before they both made their way over to the candidates. She raised her eyebrows when she watched the blue by-pass the male candidates, and make his way over to the females. She wondered if he was going to wait for his sister to impress before he found his own candidate. That's when she saw him stop in front of her, and saw his eyes turn rainbow colored.
Hello, there! I thought my sister would find Hers before I found Mine, but I guess not. I'm terribly hungry, though, AkiraMine. Will it be very long before you get your Oridith something to eat? His voice made her shiver, but she couldn't resist the innocent way he looked at her. She nodded her head, and quietly led the blue off the sands. She grabbed a bucket of meat, and brought it back to where she had left Oridith.
Akira knelt down next to the bucket full of bloody meat, and realized she couldn't wait until Oridith could feed himself. She shook her head, and reached into the bloody mess, pulling out some pretty large chunks of meat. She broke them up a little before carefully feeding them, one by one, to her dragonet. Oridith crooned softly as His started to feed him. He quickly swallowed the few chunks of meat she had given him, without actually chewing them.
Chew your food. Akira voice was that of a mother who was scolding her child. Yes Kikimine. She jumped slightly when she heard what he called her. She smiled at him all the same, and patted his head. He crooned and started chewing his food when His started feeding him again. She started to look him over, and smiled when she realized that his hide actually looked like the star speckled night sky being reflected on a smooth lakes surface.

Demetri couldn't make himself stop smiling as he watched the first two eggs hatch. He didn't take his eyes off the blue, but when he saw the little male ignore the males, and make his way over to the females, he realized that the small male probably wasn't for him. He clapped in congratulations as first the blue, then the green both impressed female candidates. There was no point in being upset, not when there were still plenty of unhatched eggs left.
Demetri gasped when he saw the Pearly Dream hatch into an opal dragon. He closed his mouth, and tried to silently pull the hatchling too him. Then he mentally shook, and scolded himself. I have to be patient. If there is a hatchling in there for me, then they will find me. He took a couple of deep breaths, and calmed himself. He still hadn't taken his eyes off the opal hatchling though. He wasn't sure if he actually wanted to really, the thing was just so cool looking to him.

Akilu, there you are, Mine! I am Lorendyth, and I am your green. More importantly at the moment, I am very hungry. Now that my brother and I have found our riders, why don't we get something to eat?
That was the moment when Akilu's life changed. She had been watching the eggs crack and rock, not thinking of the fact that one might actually choose her. The older candidate was more concerned about watching her younger friend. She didn't want Saka to get harmed after all. So, when the blue and green hatched, she only watched as the green led the blue around and past the females.
She noted how the pretty male stopped at Akira, the blue obviously impressing. Then the green continued, and her head bumped into her side. Akilu gasped slightly as every emotion possible filled her mind, her green Lorendyth waiting for the initial shock to end. Tilting her head to the side, the green crooned and nudged Akilu again. The young woman kept staring, both not sure what to do with the other. It was at that moment that some instinct in her, something she hadn't felt for a while, was invoked. A motherly instinct.
"Of course you'll get food Lorendyth. My beautiful, wonderful green Lorendyth." The green crooned, happily waving her tail from one side to another. Placing a gentle hand on the green's well muscled shoulder, Akilu marveled at the soft texture beneath the egg goop. You will get that off of me won't you Mine? It's...not very nice. Honestly it's gross...yeah, it's just gross. Food first though, then maybe we can see the others as they impress?
"Don't worry sweet one, we'll get it off of you. You'll look so clean and beautiful when I'm done." The hatchling warbled, delight found in her swirling blue, green eyes. Moving along with Hers, Lorendyth looked back at the Gold Egg that had started to shake slightly. Crooning with a sly smile, the green paused for a moment. I am better than she is, am I not Mine? She's just a Queen; just a female used for clutching more of my own color. There's no other use for her, now is there? Lorendyth hissed softly, but it was a happy sound.
Akilu widened her eyes at the dragonet's thoughts, but her love for her new bonded took over any surprise. "Of course you're better, but they're definitely needed love. Just as you are. No one is better than the other." Her green snorted at that, slashing her tail in the air. Hers was so very wrong about that. Smirking to herself slightly, Lorendyth glanced at the Gold egg once more. Oh yes, Hers was wrong. Turning back to the blue that had impressed, Lorendyth crooned, a sweet and innocent sound. Oh BrotherMine! You found Yours as well. Oh, lovely Ours! Isn't this just wonderful?
---
Panille watched as the first two dragonets impressed and started the short trip over to the tables. So far only one of the newest colors had hatched, and the Opal was left on the stands. Iliath crooned to the newest green, approving already of her stance and attitude. Laughing, Pan shook her head and looked over at the Istan Weyrlings. Some were next to her like Sy'ka, even if the boy was slightly in the shadows. Others were a bit farther away, but she could still keep an eye on them. That was good, that was safe.
---
Ara waved the two newly impressed riders and hatchlings to the tables, handing them each their buckets. "Welcome to the life of a rider!" Avirith crooned at the two dragonets as well, nuzzling Lorendyth as she came by. The darker green froze suddenly, a slight hiss forming before it turned to a checked croon. The weyrlingmaster smirked at that, but went back to helping the weyrlings. "Don't let them over eat at one time, feed them by hand if you must." She watched as they started to do just that and nodded, facing the quivering eggs again.
---
Sy'ka scowled as the hatching begun. It reminded him of the hatching he should have been at, not the one that he had been pulled into. On top of that they had sent the Istan Weyrlings to Trelis! Why? Simply because Ista didn't know how to deal with them. Snorting, the boy crossed his arms over his body. Oh come on now Sy'kaMine! Don't be such an ash-sniffing, worry-wing. That's no fun. You should be more carefree like meeee! Ooooh look at the cute blue over there! Hiiii blue!!!

The green didn't take too much longer to Impress, after the blue: a few more candidates investigated, and then those eyes took up the look of Impression, signaling that she had found her rider. Excellent for her.. but that left the sands without any dragonets wandering it.
That lasted barely a few seconds, though to Kordelia, those seconds seemed to stretch forever. Hatchings had a way of altering the perception of time. She stared at the eggs as if willing them to hatch, and, as luck and the nature of hatchings would have it, another did soonafter. Pearly dreams cracked apart, revealing a pale and.. colorful dragonet. How could they be both at the same time? A white base, with bright speckles of blue, and more colors beside.
Kordelia's eyes widened. "Faranth." she muttered. It was one of those new colors, one of the ones seen first at Ista, hatched so shortly before these very eggs. Of course rumors of those colors had swept the weyr, and then shock and awe and excitement as the newly-colored dragonets themselves arrived, and speculation had buzzed that such new colors would appear in this clutch.. but Kord hadn't been so sure, since this queen was a gold, and the mother of the new colors had been an obsidian. Perhaps strangeness begot strangeness.. you know, outside of the appearance of the new colors at all.
Apparently not, however, since here was one of the new colors in the flesh, out of the eggs before her. Kordelia's mind raced, trying to decide what she thought of them. The trained, prim, proper side of her, the part of her she warred against, thought they were to be mistrusted-- but she knew she only thought that out of the respect she'd been taught to give tradition, which the very existence of these new colors flew in the face of. But, shard it, she'd still decided to stand even when these new colors had appeared in the last clutch, and she wanted to think for herself, not mindlessly worship the monolith of tradition.
And anyway, wasn't liking something because it was nontraditional the same as liking it because it was traditional?
the only answer she could possibly think of was to sit and watch and make a decision based on what they did-- or better yet, to stay judgement as one was supposed to against all the old colors, and see the dragon as an individual. Yes, that was what she would do.
She worried through this, the conflict showing by frustration and wide eyes on her face, watching the opal with an expression that looked almost afraid. Eyes wide, chewing on her lip- it was a product of her thought process, not much to do with fear, but that's not what it looked like.
Ulteritohr, meanwhile, did not suffer with such existential crises. He came to almost the same conclusion, but he did so immediately and automatically. A dragon was a dragon was a dragon. Who cared if it was green or bronze or white with blue speckles.

Iirla's attention was drawn by those eggs which were hatching. She smiled. A lovely blue and a lovely green. She hoped they found theirs quickly. They seemed to be working well as a team. The blue found his first. A girl. A very luck girl, she was sure. She would hope to meet them some time soon. Her eyes wandered back to the green who also soon found hers. It wasn't long, though, before another egg hatched out a dragonet the likes of which she had only seen once in passing in form of one of the new Weyrlings brought for Ista. There was a lot more going on with that then she knew, she supposed. But there were also purple dragons with the group, something else that htey had not seen as of yet here. She took a deep breath and settled herself to once more watch the eggs, wondering as to what woudl come of each. She had spent much time with each one. And now she would finally see them. It was an exciting event. Hatchings, though, had so much weight and baring on a Weyr, on Pern, and on the politics of the people around them. The outcomes here could affect the relationships of the Weyr to the Ista and the others and to the Holders as well. What would they say to more mutation colors appearing? Of course, they probably has some explaining of their own to do. ------ Raevin was watching quietly. He was almost glad the blue had not picked him. He didn't want a blue and definitely did not want to Impress a green. Though... the blue would not have been bad. He simply wanted a very masculine dragon, a male with tenacity and drive. Though... He supposed it really wouldn't matter what he wanted in the end as the dragonet would be the one to pick and not he. It was simple as that. The young man looked at the newly Impressed Weyrlings and gave them a wave, meant as congratulations, then turned back to the clutch at hand, his eyes on the Opal. A beautiful male, he was. And he had some energy. He looked at the eggs then, watching them and wondering which of them would be his if any at all... And what would come from these eggs. Would those that were more red... Hatch out Garnets...?

The hatching was going smoothly, and the dragons in the stands were humming still, things had only just begun after all. Loraketh looked down at the sands, her own body vibrating with a golden song. She missed it slightly, the image of the dragonets finding Theirs. Inali felt that from her dragoness, and the Weyrwoman placed a gently hand on the her foot. "Don't worry love, you'll be there before you know it again." She smiled up at her, only averting her gaze to look at Azeal as he came running up. The 12 turn old boy from Ista was the son of her best friend...or old best friend. She had been one of the few to go with S'vrin, leaving the weyrbrat by himself. Grabbing him up in her arms, Inali ignored the small weyrbrat's protests. "You can see better up here anyway silly." Azeal laughed and nodded his head, sitting up next to her and watching as the eggs began to shake harder. --- The Gold Egg, Gleaming Hope, shook again, cracks spiderwebbing across its surface. Was it time to get out? Was it time....no not yet. The shell quivered one last time, a swirling eye flashing across a small opening before the egg stopped shaking. Instead, White Jade Egg] took up the call to hatch and soon was rocking back and forth on the hot sands. The rising sun only spurred its movements, and in one giant crack, the hatchling pushed its wings free of its confinement and gave a little roar. Flicking her hide free of the left over shells, the Amethyst hatchling turned her head from one side to the next. So this was the grand world? Well! She huffed, shaking her almost pink wings out and stood. The white markings on her face, an almost skull like appearance flashed in the bright sunlight filtering above through the clouds. There was much to fix in this world, much to do, and much to see. Crooning quietly, the Amethyst stalked over to the nearest shaking egg, going onto her hind legs to place them on the Crystal Skies shell. The blue egg shook again in response, cracking as the Amethyst hatchling pushed it around. Her sibling needed to get out! She couldn't just fix everything by herself now could she? With a final shove, the medium sized egg clashed into the side of the Brooding Silence Egg. Both hatched at the same time, the two males newly born shaking their heads to clear the fuzziness their tumble had caused. The Amethyst female crooned in a broken laugh, amused with the Blue and Brown for being so ridiculous. Deciding they weren't worth the effort, she walked away, sniffing around the female candidates. Back with the males though, the Crystal Skies Blue, and Brooding Silence Brown were in the midst of a stare-down. Neither would give in it seemed, and the larger Brown raised his head higher. The Crystal Skies Blue hissed, but soon cut it off and slipped away toward the candidates. Done with his rebellion for now, the Blue paused along the males, shaking his head. No, none of these ones were right for him. Instead, he doubled back and headed for the females, passing his Amethyst sister along the way. She snorted as he tried to flirtatiously flick his tail along the side of her body, ignoring the movement almost all together. She wasn't impressed it seemed, and the Crystal Skies Blue rolled his red eyes. Fine then! He could wait forever if he had too, except...no he couldn't wait forever to find His. Nudging Iirla, he snorted and shook his head. No, this one was definitely not for him. He stopped then, looking down the line of girls and wondered if His was really a female...yes, it was he decided and continued. Finally JillaleneMine! Were have you been?!? Don't you know your Eulurth was trying to find you? That brown sibling of mine is quite something else don't you think. Sickens me really, meh. We'll show him and my sister though. I chose you for a reason after all, so don't let me down. Eulurth crooned as he wound around His, nuzzling his head against her leg. Bright blue with a hint of green, his wings are lighter, as is his belly. His head is dark blue. The Brooding Silence Brown watched all of this with a curious gaze. He was as attentive as he had been in his egg, watching the candidates as they watched him. He knew them already. Unlike the rest of his siblings, he had been diligent enough to take tabs on them from the moment they touched his shell. Oh yes, he was a clever one this Brown, and he was proud of that fact. It was his time though, and he snorted dismissively at his Amethyst sister as she continued to try and find Hers. No wonder she couldn't find her rider! She hadn't bothered to even look till now. It served her right. The brown ignored the female candidates, leave them for his Queen when she hatched, he wanted a male. The first few he came across were ignored. Demetri, Raevin and Ulteritohr among them. Then, he came across the one he had found before. The brown stopped there, crooning an almost purr-like sound. Yes,there you are G'daroMine. The gold egg was moving. Instantly Kordelia's eyes joined many of the other females' in staring in it's direction-- honestly, it was almost trained into them. The stare was fruitless, however, as it didn't encourage the dragonet to hatch: a few shakes, some more cracks, and then the egg stilled for a bit of a rest, with a single whirling eye visible. She was watching them, it seemed.
More eggs were moving, cracking, hatching, and these were even more fascinating then the opal on the sands, and the moving queen egg-- one more new color soon spilled onto the sands-- an amethyst, the most plentiful new colors- and two eggs were shaking that she had touched before. Kordelia remembered both of them, and remembered their responses. Crystal skies and Brooding Silence. Both of them had resonated well with her, and she'd enjoyed them.. because, frankly, she was brooding and possessive too.
The amethyst seemed in no hurry, and that was fine, because Kordelia watched the blue and the brown with fascinated silence. Both of them didn't take too long to find their riders- she felt a twinge of jealousy, but hastily attempted to repress it. She had stood before, and she knew how hatchlings went. There would be plenty more impressions before her, if she impressed at all, and she wouldn't have a very good time if she let the jealousy rise this early.
Ulteritohr, meanwhile, wasn't nearly so interested in either the blue or the brown, for largely the same reasons as Kordelia was. He had touched those eggs, and they hadn't been anything near up his ally. Now that amethyst, however, she was beautiful, and her egg had been nice to touch.
Artemis sat up with the rest of the new Istan imports, watching the hatching. She wasn't settling in quite so easily as one would expect- she was a long way from home, and she felt the distance keenly. Still, the few days they'd spent at Ista, with some of the occasionally harsh responses the new colors had garnered, had convinced her of the transfer's necessity.
The hatching, at least, was a good distraction. Who couldn't enjoy a hatching? Especially one so soon after she'd just impressed Alieth. The young amethyst had her head in her rider's lap, watching the hatching from one lazily swirling eye, and occasionally giving a comment.
"Why the long face, Sy'ka?" she asked her fellow weyrling at the scowl. "It's a hatching, not anything foul."
To Alieth, she smiled and grinned, nodding as the first Amethyst of this clutch hatched. "Look, another amethyst. First one not of your clutch, Alie."
The amethyst snorted in good-natured derisiveness. Of course there is another one.[/i] she answered, I may be one of a kind, this said with the utmost pride, But amethysts are here to stay.[/i]
