Appearance
At first glance, Aridani looks like a normal girl. She stands at roughly five foot 6, though she looks a tad shorter due to her posture. Her soft blond hair falls in faint waves down her back, reaching down to her waist when not tied up. Usually, keeps her hair tied back in a braid while working to keep it from getting in the way, but when she is off duty, she usually has it simply pulled back out of her eyes with a bow, but otherwise left to flow loosely. Her eyes are a deep, watery blue-green that are, in truth, a portal to her soul; her emotions dance easily on their liquid depths. She has a rather soft appearance to her, with a small chin and long, thin fingers, but there are some light muscles on this girl.
Ari likes to wear dresses, though her choices tend to fall into a more practical, work-friendly category. Her clothing is always simple, as she doesn't have the marks to afford anything extravagant, and usually comes in browns and grays. One thing she does always carry with her, regardless of what she is doing, is a small belt-pouch, in which resides her beloved pipes.
Aridani is a bit of a klutz. She tries to move with haste when told to do something, which usually results in her tripping over her own feet. She doesn't cry about it of course, she's the type to stand back up with a goofy grin on her face and keep going. She habitually speaks through her body, using hand movements and posture to try to get her point across.
Personality
Ari is, at first glance, a happy young woman who is always smiling and dancing to a tune only she can hear. In some cases, it is a true assumption, but often times, when thoughts of her family and her past come to mind, sorrow can be seen in this lass's eyes and in the stoop of her shoulders. She tries to shoulder the pain however, and does her best to appear cheerful whenever around other people. She is a hard worker, having learned early on that it was the only way to prove her capabilities to the world, and is quite intelligent. She is able to follow instructions usually after hearing them only once, though sometimes the tune in her head distracts her from what others are saying, so she can appear air headed at times. She tries her hardest not to let that happen too often, fearing others will think she is dull or dim-witted.
Music is her lover, the most intimate being in her life. To Ari, who has never had the gift of speech, music has, and always will be, a way for her to express the feelings bottled up inside. Though it will never fill the gap she feels from being mute, it does help her cope with a lot of the difficulties of a wordless life. Her favourite instruments are the pipes she always carries, as well as a small harp and a fiddle, and she excels at playing all three. Se understands and can play many other instruments, but her tuning and love for them are mediocre at best.
A few turns back, Aridani found herself trapped in a room with a man who had lost a flight. The experience of losing her innocence in such a way, as well as the taunts and ridicule she received back at Sollace for having a child out of wedlock, has made her nervous of most men, and outright fearful of male riders. Now, being trapped in the Weyr as a refuge, she feels constantly on edge, always worried that another flight will result in a new terrifying experience. Though she has a somewhat un-trusting nature, those who do manage to break past her fear will find a sweet, loving young woman who will stand behind you through to the bitter end.
History
It was an early spring morning when a bundling bundle of baby girl by the name of Aridani was brought into the world. The first child of newlyweds Dantorol and Arika, Aridani was the light of their lives and they loved her for bits, only worrying deeply of the girls seldom heard voice. The child rarely cried or made noise through her first few months, the sounds becoming less frequent the older she got, until, nearing her second turnday, her noises stopped completely. It was almost a turn later before she was officially labeled as a mute. Her parents were devastated, but they did everything in their power to raise her normally. Shortly after her fourth turnday, Aridani's first brother Avikin was born, followed two turns later by Rantoro. The addition to the boys was both a godsend and nightmare for the young girl. The birth of two healthy boys helped her parents regain some of their former happiness, and Aridani felt the attention leave her inability to speak. However, the boys quickly learned that they could pick on their older sister and, majority of the time, get away with it.
Unable to say anything to anyone about the issue, Ari learned to bear the bullying, though she developed a habit of easily giving into the demands of others. She found solace in the hold lessons, even though her classmates often also joined in on picking on her. Though she loved the sound of the teaching ballads, she felt like an outcast among her class, the only one unable to sing along. Her life took a happier turn when she was nearing the age of nine. While changing glows, she passed by the harper's office only to hear the beautiful sound of pipes. Huddling beside the door in a shadowed crook, she stayed there for hours until the harper had finished and left. Night after night, she began returning until one day, the harper left the room, and the pipes, unattended. Knowing it was wrong, but fearing it would be her only chance, Ari slipped into the room, slid the pipes up to her lips and was amazed to hear a weak, but clear note; the first sound she had made since she was a baby. Ecstatic about her discovery, she continued trying to produce notes, and while only a few attempts had any success, she became so lost in the thrill that she didn't even notice the harper return until he had tapped her on the shoulder.
Fearing she would be in trouble she stood, frozen in fear and waited for the inevitable. Yet, it never came. Instead, the harper merely told her she should have asked, and after she nodded apologetically, he offered to teach her something. It was better than anything she could have ever expected! The lesson was short, but by the end of it she had learned how to properly blow air into the instrument to get a sound. She loved every moment of it. The short, private lessons continued once a sevenday from that point on until, nearing her twelfth turnday, she had become quite proficient in the instrument, so much so that she sometimes assisted the harper with the teaching ballads by playing while he sang. Finally, she felt like she belonged! On the eve of her turnday, the harper came to her, informing her that he would be leaving for Apollo to get his next assignment. Ari was heartbroken at the thought of losing her connection to music, but the harper had more to say. The next day, the harper left, Ari at his side, to return to Apollo, where the young girl would officially begin her apprenticeship into the harpercraft.
The apprenticeship was hard; Ari's inability to speak stopped her from being able to teach, sing, and answer questions. However, she was determined to become a harper and strove to do her best at all times. She nearly ended her dream, when a trip to a Trelis gather resulted in an unwanted event. A rider, overcome by flightlust, cornered and raped the mute girl, who was forced to do what he wanted, unable to scream and fight him off. At first, the Masters worried that her will had been shattered, but eventually, she managed to throw the emotions of the experience into her music. Her son, as it turned out to be, brought a different emotion into her music; one of love and gentle happiness. Ari had learned to take her experiences and pass them on through music.
Despite her setbacks, her hard work, and ability to play the pipes (and soon other instruments) finally found her walking the tables. She would never be able to work alone, requiring the aid of another harper to teach, explain, and sing, but she was able to travel to the different holds on placement to act as an assistant and instrumentalist. Her first assignment was the nearby Sollace, her home Hold, to assist the Journeyman there. Confident in her abilities, she returned to Sollace and assisted the Harper there. Her son was cared for by her own parents when work required her. However, she was at Sollace for only half a turn before her world was once again turned upside down.
The storm that hit Sollace was devastating, taking the lives of people she had known growing up, as well as her parents' lives. She and her son survived, pulled out of the wreckage by a Trelis rider and taken to the Weyr, where she recovered slowly, but steadily. It wasn't until a week later that she was finally reunited with the remainder of her living family; her two younger brothers. Now she must find a way to survive in Trelis, surrounded by the men she fears the most while caring for the rest of her family.

Personality:
The funny thing about flits, is that Ametrines have both the Dragon's Sub-Queens in their personalities depending on what color is more dominant, purple or orange. The thing about the Sapphires, is that they are all the gentle, motherly, and yes even shy parts of a Gold, without the demanding, prideful part too, except they too are Sub-Queens. You will never see a Sapphire that is vain, never see one that thinks she is better than anyone else. This little girl is no different. Do not underestimate her though! If pushed, she has some fire in her like you have never seen before. You don't mess with an angry momma after all, but the rest of the time she's as docile as a newborn kitten.
Appearance:
This little girl may be tiny now, but she'll grow..and grow...and grow. Though many may be skeptical and think she's simply just another gender mutation, or perhaps a Lazuli; the firelizard lacks the silver sheen of the small fighter. Instead, she has a crystalline look with a slight metallic hue as well. Her body is petite, and will grow and fill out with time to be a thin and lanky structure. Like the Obsidian's of the dragon world, they look almost fragile. Her main color is a dark sapphire hue which gives her color its name, and her extremities have a lighter cyan color creeping in tight swirls like mist.
