Name Ulteritohr - Ter'lohr
Pronunciation Uhl Tear Ih tohr
Age 18
Season Born in Winter
Gender Male
Sexuality Pansexual
Appearance
Tall and strong, those are two good words for Ulteritohr. He's 6'4" in total, having reached his final height a few years ago. He's also got the muscles on his frame to fill out his tallness, so he doesn't look excessively lanky. His skin is naturally a sort of nutty tan color, which clashes obviously with the sort of wheat-blonde color of his hair. His eyes are bright blue, which- along with the hair and the tallness- probably mark him as having been from nordic descent once upon a time. He wears his hair back in a ponytail.
What clothing Ulteritohr prefers depends on what he's going to be doing. For instance, if it's a lesson day, a simple light pants and shirt will do. However, if he's going to be working out with his hands-- which is something he likes to do-- he's probably going to be wearing an old, heavily-worn pair of pants that won't get too nasty with the mud. When he's working, he prefers to be shirtless, but in colder weather he'll don tops that are as well-worn as his workpants are. Regardless of his clothing, he wears a pair of old, comfortable leather boots.
Personality
Ulteritohr is surprisingly worldwise, for someone who grew up on a farm.
Perhaps it's his fondness for the harpers, which has been in place since he was a young child and happily ate up anything they'd tell him. They taught him how to think and what to think about-- most importantly the idea to question things and think critically, which he considers two of his most important skils. Ulteritohr thinks for himself, he doesn't blindly accept bylines. If he agrees with something, it's because he's thought it out and considered his options.
Ulteritohr likes stories. It's part of the reasons he likes harpers so much: they tell such wonderful stories. He has a good memory of them, too-- oh, he'll never be able to tell them with the flair and finesse of the harpers, but he can relay the events well enough, and he can direct people to harpers who can tell the stories as they should be told. In addition to collecting oral stories, he'll also collect written ones when he can and when he can afford it-- it's one of the few indulgences he'll allow himself. Life on the farm meant there wasn't a lot in the way of writing around, and he wants to change that in his life going forward.
Ultiritohr likes people. He cares about them in general, and wants to know who they are and what they are. What makes them tick. What their culture is like, how they work. All of these things are questions he wants answers to, and learning them will delight him. He's never really been one for things like math or science, but learning about people will fascinate him and get him going in ways that would make anthropologists proud.
He may be big and muscular, but Ulteritohr is a gentle man. His best skill on the farm specifically was dealing with animals, which takes a soft hand and a lot of patience. He has plenty of both. His patience is near inexhaustible. He's very kind, and willing to go out on a limb for people.
Ulteritohr is pretty good at people. He knows how to deal with them. Being fairly empathetic is a boon-- he's not so likely to look over their concerns and their needs in the name of getting things done or something else. It's people's health and emotions that's his primary concern.
Good natured and warm, Ulteritohr rarely has problems with crowds/social situations or in dealing with people. He's approachable and friendly, and quite easy to get along with, most of the time. He's just a nice guy. He's fairly adoptable, in that he can get used to new and strange situations quickly: he moved from the farm to the weyr and didn't experience the severe cultureshock that some candidates do. It was new, it was different.. that was cool. The only kind of new situation he won't do well in is one that crosses his morals, in which case he will fight and try to get the bit in his teeth.
Ulteritohr is adventurous. He wants to get out and do things. It's not so much that he wants to make a name for himself, as he wants to help people-- though in the process he might end up doing the latter. He's not really motivated by fame or anything like that: he wants to meet new people and experience new things.
Family is kind of an important concept for Ulteritohr. No matter how far he goes, his roots will always matter to him, and he'll take time whenever he's able to visit his family. It's part duty and part unconditional love. He really enjoys going home, staying the night and regaling them with stories of the things he's seen and done. Prior to his search, he entertained the idea of getting married and starting a family- he kind of planned on doing it. Since then, things have obviously changed, but he still hopes to do so eventually.
Ulteritohr is strong both physically and mentally. He is confident: he knows what he can do, and he has enough self-control and good sense to know when to do things. This knowledge of himself is what gives him the confidence. He is resilient as well: Ulteritohr can handle a lot of punishment before something breaks.
Ulteritohr is somewhat forward. It's not that he doesn't understand subtly as he doesn't see the point in it. It's so much easier to get things done by simply coming out and saying them, or doing them. For this reason, he's given to say what he thinks, when he thinks it. Oh, it's not in that helpless babble sort of way: he knows if something is a stupid thing to say, and will thusly hold his tongue. However, if nothing's at stake, then nothing's really stopping him.
If Ulteritohr gets an idea or wants to do something, it doesn't much matter to him whether or not people before him did it. He can be quite avant-garde, though it's never intentional. He just doesn't see why his predecessor's failure to do something should stop him now. The argument 'but it's tradition' doesn't hold much stock with him. Tradition is useful only when it doesn't get in the way, and when it does get in the way, it should be done away with. He can similarly be quite loud about such beliefs, and beliefs in general-- the fewer people are listening, the louder he is likely to become.
He very badly wants people to question everything. It's part of why he loves the harpers, for teaching that to people- though not enough people listen. Ulteritohr has a few messages he holds close to his heart, that he wants to get across to people, and that is one of them. It's part of what motivates him to adventure.
Ulteritohr takes responsibility seriously. If you ask him to do something, you can usually rest assured that it will get done, and in decent time, too. The more rides on things, the more seriously he takes it.
Being a farm boy and of nordic stock, he naturally likes mind altering chemicals-- i.e, drinking. It doesn't get in the way very much, and he can handle his liquor quite well. It's in his blood. He also frequently likes to combine his favorite activity with drinking: that is to say, thinking.
It's true. Despite what one might thing with his big and strong physique, this man is a thinker. He developed the fondness for it in his lessons, and he never looked back. whenever he does something that he doesn't need to think about-- chores, heavy lifting, etc-- he lets his mind wander, covering whatever topic occurs to him to cover.
That's why he loved the harpers so much: they taught him, and he loves to learn. Further, they were willing to discuss things with him, and one of his favorite things is having debates and talking about people's ideas, no matter how different from his they are. He likes to think of everyone's ideas as being equally valid. He's incredibly intelligent, and picks up ideas quickly- though he'll always run things through his own filters and make a decision on it that way. He never arbitrarily decides if he supports something: he thinks it through and comes to a conclusion.
The things which interest him the most are of a philosophical bent. What it means to be human, etc. He loves hearing about other people's experiences, because it gives him more information with which to process his own. Ethics and morality are also two sections where he pays a lot of attention, and things he likes to debate.
He is a very moralistic person, though his morals are less about things people mustn't do as thinks they can do, if they choose. so long as it doesn't hurt other people, Ulteritohr believes you should be able to do whatever you like. He thinks people should be treated as equals, and that they should be protected when they need to. These things form a lot of his decisions.
Idealism also has a lot to do with his decisions and world-view, too. He really thinks you can change things for the better, and help people. He thinks people can be happy, and that they and the world are generally good. He's very much a for-the-people sort of guy, and a protector-of-the-small.
The problem with that, of course, is that reality is not ideal. That will at best give him some jolts here and there-- especially should he ever be betrayed. He can't quite conceive of how or why someone would do that to another person, but clearly it happens. The other problem with idealism is that it can be dangerous, if it ever gets out of hand-- idealism makes for a great villain as much as it makes for a great hero. It can inspire fanaticism.
Ulteritohr does tend to think with his heart, which can naturally cause problems. He's emotional and passionate, and.. well. Those aren't always rational. It doesn't help that he's fairly righteous. He means well and he honestly wants to make things better, and thinks he can help.
Ulteritoh's warmth tends to attract people. He's fairly charismatic, which he uses to his advantage. He's slightly activist-y, and he's the sort who would be the person organizing a rally or a protest: something that gets ideas out there. It's his biggest goal to make people think, to make them make their own decisions.
All of this can make him somewhat arrogant. He sees big pictures, and sometimes forgets the small parts. He'll forget to consider someone, or he'll miss that person X doesn't actually want or need the help. It's not an intentional arrogance, and he doesn't think he's better then anyone else- he just has a farsighted goal that gets in the way sometimes.
Ulteritohr is kind of a hippie. The byline of peace, love and happiness sounds great to him. He abhors violence, and typically tries to get his message across via peaceful means. He doesn't like exploitative things, and he will avoid things he doesn't support. He's not entirely a vegetarian, but he does try to avoid eating meat when possible, only eating meat maybe once a day. That's not just because he likes animals, but because he sees a daily meat diet as wasteful- they didn't have meat on the farm all that regularly, because it would've meant slaughtering a valuable animal. The dragons are obligate carnivores, so for them it's okay- people have no excuse.
For all he's a gentle soul, he can be provoked to violence. He's protective- his idealism dictates that he protects the people smaller and weaker then him, and his own fondness for people dictates that he take care of people.
IF you've earned his trust, you've earned his loyalty. He is loyal to the end, and brave. He'll do what he needs to. If it's dangerous, then it's a risk that's worth taking. He's also selfless: if he's hurt or wounded, it's better then other people being hurt and wounded.
In total, Ulteritohr is a creature motivated primarily by his own idealism. That can be a boon, but it leaves him blind to certain aspects of reality, and might steer him to a course rife with rewards and potential dangers. Some people find him hard to take seriously, because he is so much.. what he is. He has chosen his path, and he will reap the consequences.

History
Ulteritohr had pretty minor beginnings. Born to a large family of farmers at Sollace hold, his family was never what anyone could call rich. They had enough, barely, to feed the mouths at their table, and most of that they made working off their own land. He grew up accustomed to hard work and responsibility, and was trained to respect and nurture life around him. He was really good at it.
However, it soon became apparent that life at the farm was a little bit too.. small-world for him. Not intentionally, he was never displeased with the farm or his family-- it was, and still is, his home-- but many of his siblings paid only cursory attention to the harper's lessons, he hung on them, drinking them like water. He couldn't get enough of the harpers and their tales, and would stay behind and listen to them outside of the lessons he attended. They introduced him to all sorts of philosophical and moral concepts that he enjoyed working through for hours.
The harpers suggested that he go into the harper hall, but he resisted-- he didn't entirely know why. It seemed like a good idea, something he wanted to do.. but he was only bent towards the pursuit of knowledge, not singing or art. Though he didn't admit it to himself, he also felt guilty for considering leaving his family. However, the harpers planted the seed of curiosity about the outside world, a need for adventure, in him.
It took a few years to reach fruition, and took the spark of a blue searchdragon to set off. He was away from the farm, getting supplies at the main hold, when he ran across a visiting rider's blue dragon. The creature was positively curious about him and- though Ulteritohr found the blue rather intimidating- he was as curious back. It didn't take long for the rider to come out, called by his dragon. That rider had some shocking news that Ulteritohr hadn't known he'd wanted to hear: the blue thought he'd make a decent candidate, and would he like to come to the weyr?
There was guilt at leaving his family, but Ulteritohr took him up on the offer regardless. At his start, he has just come to the weyr.

Please no clones of riders or existing characters-- theme-basing is okay, but I can't play chars that are from an existing media and then dropped in identically. X.x I never do them proper justice.
mauling: sure, but no maiming or death please.
Detail, Personality: 10+ adjectives, please, if that request does not offend. I need a lot of detail to get into a character from the beginning, or else I find that i have a lot of trouble playing them.
Detail, Appearance: I like colorful designs, markings, gradients, gradients with markings, gradiated markings, etc. Level of chaos or complication does not matter, attractive designs appreciated. :3 Information on build appreciated. **Secondary preference**
Queens: deeply ambivalent. Please consider only for queens if the impression of a queen DOES NOT come with any kind of OOC rank or responsibility/if my problematic activity won't be a huge problem-- if they do come with OOC duties, I fear I will only disappoint.
