Jethro walked along the tunnel leading down the the wher candidate barracks. As he walked he hummed a happy tune excited about his new home and the new adventures he would have here. He had lived in a small mining town his whole life and it was much smaller then the weyr so he wasn't used to how big his new home was. He got lost about three times before he made it to the barracks common room where everyone gathered to talk and hang out during their down time. He smiled happily and looked around for a moment before heading to his room to check it out as well. Jethro found his room quickly and walked inside setting his new pet on the bed before taking a look around his room.
It was bigger than his old one with a bed, dresser for his clothes and a chest at the foot of his bed for his other belongings. He decided to unpack his meager belongings before trying to meet some people in the common room. It didn't take him long before he was done, he picked up Roberta and walked to the common room putting his little Huntyres and sat down on one of the couches with her in his lap. He leaned back to relax until someone came in so he could introduce himself and rubbed Roberta's head happily.

Gray bounced happily back and forth as she followed Korvin into the tunnel to the barracks, a wild wherry dangling lifelessly from her mouth. Boar followed as well, though at a quieter, more sullen pace, licking his lips to catch any remnants from the wheery he had caught and eaten. Korvin was pleased to see both canines were acting more like their usual selves again; Gray especially had been extremely sad since her pups had been given away, so it was nice to see her with her usualy spirit again.
They were coming close to the barracks common room when Gray stopped her bouncing and ducked behind her owner, and Boar's hackles raised slightly. Someone was in the barracks that wasn't normally there... "Set'le." He spoke quietly, adding a hand signal to stay beside him. Confident the dogs would do as commanded, he walked slowly, warily, into the room, one hand on his dagger on the off chance he might need it. His worry was for nothing apparently, as the only thing in the room was a boy lounging on one of the couches.
"Oy," Korvin called out, walking towards one of the other couches, the dogs at his heels, though Boar growled lightly as he kept his eyes on the newcomer. He didn't want to be social, but he also didn't want Gray taking her meal into their room. He gave her the signl to eat. "Wha' are ya doin' 'ere?"

Jethro was just about asleep when he heard someone enter the room and a dog growling. He opened his eyes to see a man standing in the entrance way with a dagger in his hand and two dogs standing behind him one growling at him and another with some food in its mouth. He stared as the man gave him a look that almost made him afraid of the man. He looked the man over and saw that he was a few years older than him and taller. Jethro listened as the boy asked him what he was doing here. He got up and moved Roberta to his shoulder before he started walking over to the man but still keeping his distance just in case the man told his dogs to get him “Hello my name is Jethro I’m the new Wher candidate I just moved in today.” Jethro smiled at him and held out his hand for the man to shake “What is your name?” He waited for the man to talk or shake his hand and stood there nervously and hoping the man was nice and just had a hard voice.

Boar's growl grew fiercer as the younger human drew closer and Korvin was forced to signal him to settle down again. His own expression mirrored his dog's feelings though, as his glare clearly showed his dislike of this new guy, especially since he seemed like he wanted to get right into the danger zone of the canines. He raised an eyebrow curiously at the tiny fuzzball on Jethro's shoulder. Was that the young version of the huntyres he had seen around here? He wondered briefly how well the bird would take to training, but shook it off for now. He was here for a strong, monstrous wher, not some chirping fuzzball.
He looked at Jethro, unamused, when the younger man held out his hand for shaking. Fool, didn't he realize he had placed himself in a vulnerable position to be attacked. By grabbing his hand, korvin could have his dagger through the boy's chest in an instant. He wouldn't of course, but the possibility was always there. He ignored the hand, giving Jethro a cold, calculating look for a moment before finally speaking.
"Korvin," he replied, giving in only because Jethro had offered his name first. Then his voice took on a condescending tone, "Obviously I'm also a wher candida'e. We ARE in th'barracks." Gray, having finished gulping down her meal, stepped shyly towards Jethro, sniffing at his legs as she looked up nervously, hoping the boy would pet her.

Jethro frowned a little at how the man was acting towards him. He lowered his hand as one of Korvin’s dogs growled at him and took a step back. Jethro almost walked out of the common room with Roberta as the other dog finished her meal and walked over to him and sniffed his pants leg. He reached down and rubbed her head as Roberta squawked in protest and he felt she thought he liked this dog better than her. He smiled and stood back up petting Roberta “now now Roberta I don’t like her more than you.” Jethro looked back at Korvin and said “you know I was only trying to be friendly so now I’ll leave you be” before he walked back to him room setting Roberta on his dresser and flopping down on his bed angrily thinking about how rude Korvin was. Jethro hopped the other Wher candidates were nicer and had manners.

Naomi sighed as she walked back to the barracks. She was finally allowed to walk around on her leg. Which meant long days of training her new companion. She looked down at her three canines, and smiled at the fond memories she had of getting each one of them. Well, the memory of getting Sarabi wasn't so fond. She shook her head, just because she had received the young pup from a total jerk didn't mean she didn't love the young female. Ayame paused, and then started wagging her tail excitedly as they got closer to the barracks. What is it girl? Naomi knew her canines very well, especially the four turn old female. When Ayame yipped playfully, and bounded towards the entrance to the candidate barracks, Naomi shook her head, picked up Sarabi, and jogged after the older female. Akela growled when they finally entered the barracks. And Naomi realized why. Naomi glared at Korvin, while Akela growled at Boar. Ayame was the only one to greet anyone with any semblance of friendliness. She yipped happily at Gray, and wagged her tail in a playful greeting to the other female. Naomi set Sarabi down, and the young pup sat with great dignity beside her owner. There was no point in getting all upset over the people in the room. Though, it should come to no surprise when I say the only one of them to notice the new candidate was Sarabi.

Korvin let out a light chuckle, almost a scoff, as the new kid backed away. So.. he had some smarts, that was a good sign. A roll of his eyes was the only response anyone got from the man as Jethro gave Gray some attention. Really, they had been at the Weyr much too long; his well trained female was getting a bit too friendly for his liking. Apparently his disinterest in Jethro had upset the boy, since he retorted and moved to leave.
"Friendly ain't gunna get you anywhere," Korvin replied icily, memories of THAT day, turns ago, flooded back to his mind. No... friendliness, kindness, all it brought was pain. Korvin was better off without it. He stared coldly at Jethro's retreating form, humphing in annoyance. Stupid wimpy brats telling him off for being a realist. He would never understand these Weyrfolk. He stretched then, putting his feet - boots and all- onto the table, hoping for a moment of relaxation in an otherwise crappy day. Oh but SOMEONE had it out for him today didn't they?! He blinked an eye open towards the entrance as he heard a familiar yipping sound. Shards... he began to stand, hoping to escape the room before SHE came in, but apparently the wench was right on her mutt's heels.
Seeing her caused Korvin to blush deeply, remembering in embarassment parts of his... behaviour at the gather. He turned away quickly, flopping haphazardly on the couch in an attempt to ignore her. "Shards... one git after another..." he said quietly. Boar, likewise, raised his head only long enough to identify the canine as Akela before putting his head back down. He didn't want to deal with her any more than his human wanted to deal with her human. Gray, however, yipped playfully in return. Jumping at Ayame playfully for a moment before going to lick her daughter and Naomi excitedly. The young grey mother had become a lot more open to others since coming to the Weyr, that was for sure.
She yipped again before jumping towards where Jethro had gone, as if calling Ayame to see the new person.
