Appearance Daren has a long, narrow face with high cheekbones and a wide nose. His mouth is also wide, though he has small lips, with large white teeth. They are flashed often, as he is often smiling. Dark brown eyes and a swarthy complection match well with his black hair, which is perfectly straight. He wears it about shoulder length, though tied bacck always with a leather cord.
He has large hands which are more dexterious than they appear at first and are covered in a score of small pale scars along with his lower arms. He is a bit taller than average, but not particularly athletic. His shoulders have a slight stoop to them, as befits someone who spends much of his time leaning or bending over. All in all, he is not a particularly attractive man.
Personality Daren has a jovial personality. He's never met a conversation he wasn't willing to join. His personability and sense of humor mean that he is usually welcome as well. He makes friends easily, however he loses them again almost as easily after a while.
He tends toward being quite boisterious when he's been drinking and he has a tendency to drink too much, too often. Sometimes this gets him into trouble at gathers and during dinner-parties, though most of the time he is forgiven later by people who're willing to overlook his more outrageous behavior. Not everyone does, of course. Occasionally, though, his drinking does not lead to a boisterous attitude, but a melancholy one instead. His usual good humor leaves him and he becomes sullen or even tearful and the only living thing he can stand to be around is Beezle.
An accident during his apprenticeship impressed upon him the importance of concentration and focus during his work and he does not tolerate any fooling around in the glassworks. He takes his work very seriously, and is quite determined to excel at it. Even those who don't like him generally can respect his dedication to his work.
He appreciates women and enjoys their company. Especially when there is a Flight. However he shies away from any form of commitment with any woman.
Family (if any) Daren's mother, Renna, and father, Darkit, both live in Apolla Hold where he grew up. His father is also a Glass-smith who never walked the tables to master rank. His mother worked in the kitchen until she retired at sixty-eight. He has two younger brothers and one younger sister. Both his brothers went into different fields. Nakit, who is two turns younger, went into healer training while Renkit, four turns younger, became a weaver. His siter, Kitna, six turns younger, is married.
Location He was born at Apolla Hold and trained at the Glass-smith Hall there. He currently lives at the Weyr.

History Daren was born at Apolla Hold, the first of four children. He was a popular child prone to making trouble. He was the only one his brothers who was interested in his father's craft. He entered into apprentice training at the age of twelve, and excelled. He also excelled at causing trouble, which only his talent managed to get him out of. However, that ice was wearing very thin.
An accident when Daren was fifteen changed matters. He was working on a group project with another apprentice when their joking around led to sloppiness in their work. The glass piece they were working on exploded, causing shards of glass to fly all over, injuring both apprentices. Daren's hands and arms were cut up, but his partner had several bits of glass lodge in his eyes. Only the pleading and favor pulling of Daren's father kept him in the Hall. After that moment though, Daren left all joking aside when it came to his work, which greatly improved for it.
When he walked the tables to recieve his Journeyman knots, at the age of 20, he spent time travelling. Doing work for various small holdings and villages around the island. He met a young woman who captured his heart. It had been his plan to settle down with her and she was more than willing as was her family. Her father even gifted Daren with a firelizard egg which hatched into a blue. She named him Beezle. However, only a few sevendays before they were to be married, a fever took her.
He returned to his Hall after that and requested a permanent assignment somewhere. The Weyr was in need of some specialty glass work, which he excelled at, and he was sent there.
He has been there ever since, making and repairing glass as needed for the Weyr as well as working on his won projects and independant contracts. It is his goal to walk the tables for his Masters knots before he turns 40.

Strengths He specialises in colored glass, particularly in stained glass windows. He is also quite good at decorative vases, fancy glassware and objects d'arte.
Weaknesses He doesn't particuarly enjoy making strictly utilitarian objects, like plain drinking glasses and bottles. He is able, but they never turn out very well. His lack of interest shows through.
