These are the ones I have in so far. There a few more I am waiting on. If you were an ad contest winner this last time, you should have one in by the end of the month!

My own Candidate Syanka

Appearance
Syanka has what some would call striking features. The candidate has dark brown hair that reaches his shoulders in waves around his head in a messy array. His jaw, which is somewhere between square and angular, is covered by scruffy facial hair. However, the candidate keeps it very short and trimmed. Syanka, is also tanned by his time under the Southern Sun, and his light eyes have a sort of shine to them. Though they are a lighter blue, they sometimes have glints of grey of green in them as well.

At 5ft 11in, Syanka is a normal to slightly above average sized pernese man. As stated before, he has a sun kissed tan look to his skin as well. While most tall people are all leg, he does not give that impression at a person’s first glance. However, when he is lounging around and putting his legs in front of him the length is more noticeable. His hands and back are covered in thin white scars from when his father beat him as a child. He wears these with pride though, not caring if someone sees them.

Silent, Syanka is the type to try to not be noticed until the moments right. It is at the opportune time that he will strike, and fast. In addition, the candidate walks with his head high whenever he has to show off. A bit of a swagger even is apparent, and he often acts as if he's flipping everyone off. However, Syanka is always on guard even if he seems lazy. Syanka has a rough tenor voice. Honestly, many that have heard it before have thought it soothing. However, there are always those who do not like it. The candidate wears any sort of pants or shirts, or at times no shirt. A jacket or vest also sometimes added to the mix, especially in the cooler months. Boots and leather armlets and chokers however, will be worn at all times.

Personality
Syanka honestly is a cocky individual. He is a jerk, which at any sign of weakness will descend and poke at the victim until they cannot take it anymore. His goal honestly is not to harm anyone, just to get under his or her skin and push them as far as he can. The candidate is also arrogant, believing that he can handle anything and everything by himself.

On top of his arrogance, Syanka also is quite the calculator. No, not that he's always solving math problems. He actually thinks about everything that can and will happen before he reacts, and he is very quick to do so. It seems most of the time like he simply moves, and his fists lead many times instead of his brain. However, he really is thinking, it is just second nature and fast. A very aggressive person, Syanka hates to let anyone one him up. He will stop at nothing to win, even if it means cheating.

As one might have guessed by now, Syanka also is entirely apathetic toward others. It takes a while for someone to register on the candidate's radar as something other than a toy. Even if they do though, Syanka seldom goes out of his way to help others. The only exception to this is when an enemy of his is harming someone, or if an innocent person is being seriously hurt. Also, Syanka has a soft spot for kids, he just never knows how to approach them and so doesn't. He will become very protective of them though if they are threatened.

On a more fun note, Syanka is incredibly flirty. In fact, the candidate has absolutely no shame, and will flirt with both males and females whenever he likes. Often times, this behavior gets him into trouble. Syanka will flirt with someone that is already spoken for on occasion. He simply does not care whether anyone minds or not.

Other than his aggression and flirting problems, Syanka also likes to gamble. This can be on anything from races, to fights, to card games. If someone challenges him to something, Syanka is all in. His confidence has landed him in the "poor-house" a few times even.

History
Syanka is the only child of two parents that were born and raised in Ista Hold. His mother died in child birth, and he was left to the care of his father. However, even as Syanka was little, his father took out aggression on him often. The boy learned quickly not to trust anyone, particularly male. He also learned quickly how to defend himself. As he aged more and more, his father started to back off. Not because he was realizing how horrible he had been, no that would be too fortunate for Syanka. Instead he stopped more and more because Syanka grew up, and stronger.

By the age of 13 turns, the boy had been thrown into a training program for Hold guards. He hated the life, but it got him out of his father's hands at least. Instead, he wanted to just leave. Live somewhere open and away from restrictions. Some place that he couldn't see another soul for miles and miles. In the mean time, Syanka did everything he could think of to rebel against his father and home. He flirted, and more, he also gambled and took things. It wasn't until the age of 16 that he realized nothing he was doing would help matters.

It was here that he became both bitter, and more sensible. Instead of focusing on what was wrong and how he could get back at people, he focused on what he could do to get out. When some guards were brought with the Lord Holder to Ista Weyr's hatching, Syanka went as well. The hatching was surprising to the boy, and made him more and more curious at the events. It was then that a dragon searched him and he gladly went into candidacy. Riding on one of those magnificent beasts wasn't so bad a life he thought, but he knew he'd have to wait a bit before a female rose again.

He was left out of the last hatching that was donated due to an injury. However, he's back now and with full force. Syanka is determined to get on with his life and show everyone that doubted him before, that he wasn't doing this for nothing.


Dragon Preference
I think almost anything would work. I almost want to say give him a female or vain male. Something justice oriented or even as bloodthirsty would be fun as well. Maul him! I want this boy hurting lolz. Just leave him able to still function afterwards.

Kitsuneko’s Plot Candidate Barnaby

Appearance Barnaby is just a bit short for his age, and though he still has a bit of growing to do, it looks like he's not going to be more than average in height. He's fairly average in build as well; not particularly thin or muscular, and he's not the sort of guy that stands out in a crowd. His skin is a sort of light brown and he doesn't burn easily in the sun.

His eyes are large and wide, and they are a curious blue-green color. Sometimes they'll look more green or more blue, mostly depending on the light. His hair is a very dark brown and just a little curly; it hangs down to the nape of the neck, with a tendency to fall into his face as well.

Personality Barnaby is an extremely laid-back person. Some people call him lazy and, well, they may be right. He does tend to shirk his work when he can get away with it, but if the task is something really important, he'll buckle down and do his best. He is very calm and mild-mannered, with a cool temper. He doesn't get upset easily and he prefers to avoid fights. It's not that he's a coward, but he's genuinely a peaceful, gentle person who doesn't want to hurt others.
He is extremely helpful and if he's not working on anything important, he'll gladly lend a helping hand, especially if that promises to be more interesting than whatever chore he's been assigned. He is sweet and kind towards most people, but he is also very shy and tends to stay away from people he doesn't know, and it can take a while for him to warm up to people. He is very discrete though, and knows when to keep his mouth shut about a secret. He is generally trustworthy and loyal, however, he tends to think the best of people and he rarely questions what he's told; he's probably a bit more trusting than he should be.
Though Barnaby is careful and meticulous when focused on something that really holds his attention, the rest of the time he can be kind of clumsy, especially when he's nervous; he's broken more dishes than he can count on kitchen-duty. He does have an interest in healing, though, even if the sight of blood makes him a bit queasy. Sailing has much the same effect; he gets seasick very quickly and prefers to avoid boats when he can.

History Barnaby was born in the Lower Caverns of Ista Weyr. His mother was--and still is--one of the women who work in the kitchens, and she often fostered the children of riders who didn't have the time or interest to care for their own kids. Barnanby's father was a bluerider of Ista, and also her weyrmate from before their son's birth to his eventual death to illness nine turns later.

Though his mother's willingness to foster meant that Barnaby had no shortage of playmates and siblings growing up, he was always a rather introverted child and never really got over the shyness that made it so difficult for him to make friends. He rarely made enemies of other kids unless they were relentless bullies, but he did have a tendency to keep his distance and gained a reputation as a loner.

Hoping to become a dragonrider like his father, Barnaby was quite happy to stay at Ista Weyr, as he liked his home Weyr. He started standing as soon as he was old enough, and though he attended one clutch there, he did not Impress. After that, he took up an interest in healing and began to spend his free time helping and learning from the Weyrhealers in his free time, though he never intended to formally apprentice to the Healerhall. It was something useful to occupy his time while waiting for the next clutch to be laid, though. He would prefer to ride a dragon, but even if that dream doesn't come true, he's decided he'll be content to remain at Ista as a healer.

Appearance:
Place Vekoiyev in the bathing caverns and he would more than likely blend in with everyone around him. He is roughly average height for his age, standing just below his peers, though one would never know without having him stand back to back with others. To say his hair is black would be a lie, its actually a very dark brown, so dark that it looks black except when in direct sunlight. He keeps it in a rather intriguing style. Short in the front, and gradually longer as it gets to the back, he only ever lets the longest part reach just above his shoulders. Due to growing up in the Igen deserts, Vekoiyev has a dark tan, though it sometimes shows hints of red from sunburns. For a boy his age, his muscle structure is pretty average. He has built up some muscles from his chores and the time he spends climbing and exploring, but he is by no means buff; simply healthy and fit. If you were to ask Vek what his most unique feature is, he would quickly say his eyes. A very light brown, almost the colour of sand itself, his eyes are always wide and full of curiosity.

Though Vek says his eyes are his unique point, it is actually his clothing that sets him apart from his friends and relatives. Though his clothing style is normal by Igen standards - light, airy fabrics and robes to protect against the desert sun - it is Vek’s choice in colours that make people turn their heads his way, not to mention the clothing itself is rather unusual to see anywhere outside the Igen deserts. He’s tried to change clothing styles, but he hates the constricting feeling of regular work clothing. Never favouring one colour over another, Vek avoids wearing only one colour at a time. This of course means the boy ends up running around wearing multiple layers despite the heat, and each layer is always a different colour. More often than not, the colours also clash. To make matters even worse, Vekoiyev has a love of beads and beadwork, and uses any excuse to accessories with them. Hair, clothing even pets can quickly find themselves decorated with coloured beads.

Vek loves to explore. As such, his body is covered in ‘trophies’ from his adventures. Cuts, scars, sand-burns and the occasional smudge of dirt are all souvenirs of his adventures. He is also missing a tooth, though he has no idea where he lost it. He’s a bit of a fidgety fellow; he has a hard time standing or sitting still for more than a few moments. It is a rare sight to see this guy not pacing, fidgeting or fiddling with something.

Vekoiyev is, in a word, curious. He loves everything about the world around him, and loves nothing more than learning something new. Left to his own devices as a child, Vek has a free spirit and he has a hard time conforming to any rules given to him, though he tries for the sake of knowledge. He loves spending time outside, climbing and exploring the land and its wonders. He is easily impressed or distracted by new things causing him to jump between topics or discoveries often, and as such has a short attention span that causes him to lose interest in repetitive tasks. On the bright side, he likes doing anything that involves hands-on work, which means chores are a breeze (if he’s not too bored to do them) but anything involving records or studying are hard for him.

Vek loves to talk, or more specifically, ask questions, which many people find annoying. Though he loves learning things about the people he meets, his desire to know as much as possible about them causes him to ask many questions, often without enough time to answer them in between. He can get so caught up in his questions sometimes that he can ever forget the original question that started his ramble. Vek’s naivety can often get him into trouble, as he hasn’t yet caught on to what type of personal matters he shouldn’t be asking about.

Vek has a tendency to let his curiosity get the better of him, resulting in a young boy who is, essentially, fearless. An act-first-think-later type, Vekoiyev is not afraid to charge headfirst into anything, which has resulted in numerous small injuries in the past. Curious nature aside, Vek is a pretty average hold boy. Intelligent, friendly and optimistic, he’s quite the people person and cherishes the friends he has. It is near impossible to see him in a sour mood of any kind, as even poor experiences are treated as forms of knowledge.

History:
Vekoiyev was born to a small hold located in the deserts of Igen. His parents loved each other, though their marriage had originally been an arranged marriage. His father, wher handler Yevinek, and mother, healer Akoi, had three other children before Vek; Noira, Navoinrel and Kevilin. Being the youngest child, Vekoiyev had a rather easy childhood, his parents spent most of their attention on the eldest children. By no means was Vek ignored, he received the love he needed, but his life was not as strict as his siblings’ lives had been.

By the time Vek was seven Turns old, he had already discovered a love for exploring, fuelled by the free lifestyle he had. One day, while the family was visiting the main Hold, Vek went out exploring and happened upon a wild flit’s clutch and managed to entice one of the brown hatchlings to him. Naming the flit Aedion, he was pleased to discover that the creature was just as curious about the world as he was. The two naturally became an adventuring pair. While at the Hold, his eldest brother Navoinrel was searched for a clutch at Igen Weyr. Vek was sad to see his favourite sibling leave, but life continued on as normal.

Three turns passed before he saw his brother again, though now he was N’rel of blue Dyth. Those three turns were not eventless however. During those years, Vek began normal Hold lessons with the local harper and found he was interested in the man’s skill with instruments. Though he took the most pleasure in the stories the harper told about the world, Vek discovered that he also took pleasure in playing the pipes, and set about learning with a fervour his parents hadn’t seen before. Pleased at the idea that their son had already found a craft to be interested in, they hinted at the boy learning the other instruments and theory that the harper had to offer. Yet, Vek had other plans. He wanted to learn the pipes, as he loved the sound, but his interest in the Harper craft ended there, and once he believed he had learned to play the pipes enough, his visits to the harper lessened. He still attends classes occasionally to practice, but his love returned to exploring.

In his eleventh turn, Vek’s life suddenly changed. His father received a large injury, which quickly festered, while defending the small hold from raiders. Though Akoi did all she could to heal him, the wound was too large for her skill. She had, after all, learned her healing from her mother, not a Master. Fearing for the life of Yevinek, the family sought transportation from N’rel, who took them to Igen Hold to see the master healer there. With his condition stabilized, the family saw a slow, but obvious improvement in Yevineks’s health, and for a time they stayed at Igen to let him heal. Vek took the opportunity to explore the area more thoroughly, but he quickly grew bored with it; he had seen it before when he found Aedion. Once Yevinek was well enough to travel again, the healer suggested they transfer him to Ista, where the climate would be much better for his health, and soon the family found themselves at Ista Hold, though his other brother, Kevilin, returned to their home hold. During the worst part of Yevinek’s illness, Vek’s sister Noira had taken up care of his father’s green wher Yevinsk, and she quickly fell in love with the creatures. She learned of a clutch at the Weyr, and happily moved onto the Weyr to become a candidate, and eventual handler of Blue Noisk.

Vek loved Ista Hold and spent all of his free time exploring and adventuring, even though his parents egged him into looking into the various crafts, since he was the only child who hadn’t found his calling in life yet. Though he hated it, Vek started spending time with the various journeymen at Ista, learning bits and pieces of crafts from each one, but he was unable to commit himself to any one. Secretly, he wanted to follow in his brother’s footsteps and become a dragon candidate, partly to experience the wonders of dragons, and partly to escape the stifling expectations of Hold life.

The opportunity finally arrived just before his fifteenth turnday. Searched for a clutch at Ista Weyr, Vek happily took up the offer and became a candidate at the Weyr. With two siblings now at Ista, N’rel also managed to be transferred to Ista in the hoeps of looking after his youngest brother. In what seemed like a heartbeat, the clutch came and went, leaving the young boy on the sands, but Vek was not sad. The Weyr allowed him to have the free life he longed for, and when he failed to impress he simply returned to exploring, though he often accompanied Weyrfolk on their ventures to gather plants and materials, since he was now partly responsible for taking care of himself, though both brother and sister helped him when he needed it. Now, between gathering and exploring, Vek waits anxiously for the next clutch to arrive.

Personality/Appearance:
Dion is a boxy little fellow, his features are not as smooth and graceful as many of his brethren, and coupled with his small size, he looks quite humorous. His hide is a soft but dark brown and is rather solid across his body. The only markings he has are on his paws and neck. Reaching from his tows to his wrists and ankles are sock-like markings in a dull orange-brown. The same colour appears in a very thin band on his neck, just below his head. He wears a simple, orange-coloured bead harness that was made to resemble miniature riding straps

Like his human partner, Aedion is curious about everything, though he is by no means as noisy as Vekoiyev is. Preferring to silently observe, Aedion is more likely to ruffle his wings and swish his tail than chirp and trill about a discovery. He loves sending His images of the things, people, and creatures he finds. He sometimes thinks he is smaller than he actually is, and has gotten himself stuck somewhere on more than one occasion.

Dragon Preference: Umm.. No idea. Vek himself would be happy to try to learn everything about his dragon regardless of colour or personality. I would prefer if his dragon (if he impresses) is not identical to him, but whatever you choose is fine with me, I’ll enjoy anything.
As far as maulings, I’d prefer if he can come away relatively unscathed (ie no life altering injuries, but scars and small wounds are fine), but if you want to hurt him, then I won’t stop you.

Zara’s Plot Candidate Eliitra

Appearance Elitra is not particularly tall, but, to her credit, this may be a bit of an advantage in a way. She doesn’t need to be tall or bulky. At least in her mind. She doesn’t’ have any desire to be tall or lanky like other girls. She is dark skinned with long arms and legs, so she may not look entirely that short at first glance. She stands in a somewhat relaxed pose most of the time, though that is a very deceptive impression as she is thoroughly trained as a warrior and can easily take on people much larger than herself due to her quickness and agility as well as her skill.

Her nearly black, almond shaped eyes are sharp and well suited for archery. Her rather angular and oval shaped face is supported by a slender neck. Her body is built athletically, but most of her muscles are wiry rather than bulky. She has some shape to her body, but she is not exactly overly shapely. However, she has a certain way of moving about her that makes it very obvious that she is trained to fight.

Her clothing is always consists of leather and some kind of natural colored cloth and clothing. She always wears a band at her hair line and over her forehead in order to keep her already short, dark and somewhat messy hair from falling her eyes when she is fighting. She most commonly carries a bow and quiver with her and always has a knife in her leather boots and a sword at her side.

Her body is laced with scars from years of fighting and learning to fight. Several of these mar what would otherwise be considered a beautiful face, one even cutting through her eyebrow. Her arms also have their fair number of scars as the rest of her body does.

Elliitra has always been a charismatic persona with skill and ability to speak in a compelling way. She comes by it both as a talent and by practice. She can get worked up and get others motivated and worked up as well. She is good at speaking clearly and precisely when needed and gives a strong and distant façade when not talking. It’s part of what makes her a good and affective leader to those who are under her command in any situation.

Her positive attitude is something that many appreciate. She never thinks of the bad things in life, but rather looks for the good. Focusing on bad things get you nowhere, in fact, it makes your life worse. However, she is stubborn and, when her mind is made, it may be difficult to change it. She is overly honest, to the point of being blunt at times and is brash in making her decisions as well. She needs people or others around her who can help to keep this side of her nature under control.

Even further, she has a bad temper if she sees someone hurt. As one who is protective of those around her and in her care herself, she quickly becomes angered when she sees one person hurting another and will often act on the temperamental outburst that is sure to shortly follow. It is one of her biggest shortcomings, at least in her own mind.

In addition to being honest with others, Eliitra is very honest with herself, even going as far as to critique herself, but always believing that she will and can get better with practice and with time. Her quiet and dynamic exterior conceals an equally dynamic inner core which shows most when it changes.

Location Ista Weyr

History Although it may not be typical for a woman to be a guard, Ellina was. Of course, she could not be from a typical family, could she? Well, even if she could, she wasn’t. Originally, she was part of a family of traders into which, her family, whose ancestors ah been outlaws and outcasts of a kind, were taken in and their skills in fighting and training huntyres and firelizards were put to good use. It was while Ellina was amongst this group that she would meet her husband, Rasan, a trained guard from Ista Hold who was traveling with the group at that time.

Ellina and Rasan married when they were still rather young, though Ellina did not conceive her first child until she was twenty-five Turns and still with the caravan. However, she would miscarry and lose this first child. However, Rasan did his best to support her even in her deep depression. It was the second time that she became pregnant that he decided that for her safety and the safety of their child, they would remain at Ista Hold with his family.

Nine months later, Ellina gave birth to Eliitra. She didn’t want her daughter to end up with her life, but it was a wish and a want that would go unfulfilled as the young girl soon went to learn fighting from anyone and everyone who would teach it… and, eventually, Ellina and Rasan decided it was best they train her themselves and, soon, they were back with Ellina’s family and the caravan.

Her grandfather was more than happy to help train the young girl and was pleased when she proved to have talent. He even gave her a Huntyre from his Forest’s clutch and helped her to train him.

However, Ellina, when she became pregnant with her third child, died in childbirth while they traveled and Rasan only remained with them for a short time longer before returning to the Hold and taking his daughter with him. He did his best to dissuade her from fighting and to learn anything else other than fighting or even to marry. However, it was hard to dissuade the stubborn girl and she got into more trouble than anything else.

This pattern continued until the day her grandfather convinced her father to allow her to come back with him again and he resumed training her. However, when he passed away, she returned to the Hold again, where she remained until the day she was Searched to Ista Weyr to stand as a Candidate where the rather charismatic girl still trains every morning and any time she can find time and where she tries to make friends wherever she can. She has continued to work with her Huntyre in attempt to train him as well as her grandfather and mother had trained their own huntyres.

Personality/Appearance This pale and graceful Huntyre may be small as most of his color are, but he is loyal and very good at listening. He is easy to get along with and laid back most of the time, unless, of course, he is working. He can be very proud when he feels the need and tends to feed a lot off of his owner.

Due to the warm climate that is his home, lighter colors are his preferred clothing during daily activities. Most of the time he keeps it short and somewhat spiky but he can go the month or so where he grows it out somewhat and maintains a slightly shaggy and rough appearance. Clean shaven is not entirely in his nature. Velkan sees it as too much as a chore so he only cares to follow the routine every few days or so. Naturally this leaves him looking more then a little on the scruffy side on most days. Due to his great love of the outdoors and the many activities he gets in to his body has developed a healthy tan along with thick bounds of muscles that wrap from his arms, across his torso, and around his legs.

He has a few small scars here and there, the most prominent being a nice two inch scar that stretches horizontally across his nose. It’s a distinguishing mark that leaves him unable to simply blend in to a crowd. He loathes it really as it doesn’t go well when he’s forced to make appearances. During the more finer nights when Hold and Weyr come together as one and celebrate the seasons good harvest, Velken can be seen in his more finer attire. When the occasion calls for it, and that’s including when he can be bothered to put on appearances he can be seen in a crisp, deep blue tunic with streaks of white with a set of dark blue, nearly black, trousers.

Personality

Rough, mildly arrogant, proud, “tough guy” act, flawed, kind, has moments of weakness.
Under all of this hides what could be a great leader someday.

Velkan is a strong minded and proud individual. He’s not really one to cross idealistic wise as he’s very passionate about his beliefs. So if you have something to say and it goes against what he’s said you had better had something damn good to back it up with or he’ll shoot you down and watch you burn quicker then a hatchling learning to flame for the first time. He’s a very well educated individual and quick to pick up new things. He learned to read and write at a young age which in turn led him to develop his interest in painting and sketching, both a skill and a talent he picked up from his mother.

Some might say it’s all an act, a façade really. As he’s built up this dark persona that surrounds him when he’s in public but when he’s alone or with the few that really know him know that he’s just as troubled and flawed just like everyone else. Like most people though, if the right person were to come along and give him a good smack in the right direction and shatter his barriers they‘ll come to see that he‘s just a man who took a wrong turn and got lost once or twice. Basically he just needs someone to bring him back down to reality, away from the shadow of his father and his life and home, and teach him what it means to live. While, naturally, getting into mounds of mischief and trouble along the way.

History

Velkan had a pretty normal upbringing. He had the older brother, a loving mother, and what family would be complete without the overbearing and strong willed father? Korvik was the oldest and when he was 14 managed to slip out of his fathers grasp by joining his uncle on the seas and leaning the fisherman’s craft. Velkan, on the other hand, hadn’t been so fortunate. His mother had passed away when he was young and his brother had gone off and this had left Velkan under the harsh and not so loving care of his Lord Holder father. His father had loathed the fact that his eldest son had shirked his duties to being a Lord Holders son so naturally Korvan took out his frustration out his youngest and only remaining son. After all, he would need someone to carry on after he was dead and gone.

The two boys had adored their mother, Velkan most of all. She was their beacon of strength and support when their fathers wrath ripped through the hold. Now being the youngest by a good many turns, it left him vulnerable to his fathers outbursts at an early age. When mother and brother weren’t around for some reason or another, the young boy became very well acquainted with the back of his fathers hand or the snap of his belt, whichever happened to fit the Lord’s mood that evening. No one really suspected a thing when the bruises began to show on the young boy. After all, he was a child and a rambunctious young boy at that, they do tend to earn their fair share of scrapes and bruises running around the place. At first no one but the staff noticed how Velkan tended to have a few more bruises when he was alone with his father but they knew better then to speak up. Their jobs were at stake and they had families to feed, so you can’t really blame them can you? Oh but Velkan can and did as he got older.

His mother didn’t find out about the mistreatment of her son long after her eldest had left and Velkan was around the age of twelve. It was utter chaos that night. His mother was like a wher gone rogue as she confronted the man who had been abusing his own child for so many years. Velkan had been standing near the door, looking through the small crack and staring wide eyed as the light from the fire danced across his parents and the scene that was unfolding in the library. It was a passing drudge that had to take him firmly, but gently, by the hand and lead him away from the distressing scene but even though his sight no longer beheld the library his ears rang with a swift clap of flesh striking flesh and the startled gasp of his mother as Velkan could only guess his father had instead turned his hand on his mother this night.

That was the night where his hatred for his father began but it truly started to ignite and consume him no more then four turns later when his mother turned up dead in the same library the confrontation had occurred. Velkan was devastated at the loss and completely held his father responsible for her early death. By now he was sixteen and contained a lot more hatred and violence within himself. He could be heard on a daily basis going on to servants about how it was his father who murdered his mother but naturally there was no proof and of course the Lord’s servants wisely kept quiet, for anyone who spoke up about the matter tended to show up missing within the month.

Though he was the son of a Lord Holder, Velkan really only held one truly precious possession. When his mother passed her bronze fire lizard, Apollo, instead of wandering off to leave chose to further his bond with Velkan and attached himself to the boy. The old bronze was a life saver to the troubled youth. With Apollo around his father didn’t dare try and lay a hand on him and for the first time since his mother passed Velkan finally felt at ease walking the halls of his own Hold knowing no harm would come his way, not when he had his trusty companion perched stoically on his shoulder. Apollo was more then just a protector though. With his brother gone most of the time out to sea, the bronze served as a reliable means to get messages back and forth between the two brothers.

As with the rest of his life though, it seemed like this good thing wasn’t meant to last. When he was around 18 the news came down that apparently his father had found Velkan a suitable wife and the arrangements were being made to wed the two during the summer. Naturally Velkan was outraged at the audacity of his father, of course refusing to marry the girl he had no interest in and barely knew. Enraged the lad stormed into his fathers study, for the first time standing up for himself, and angrily shoved the older man from behind to gain his attention. For a brief moment it looked as though he had gained the upper hand and finally managed to put the old man in his place, showing that his son would not be his personal punching bag anymore. Those feelings only lasted half a breath as his fathers arm swung back and cracked him across the face. Blood poured down from a gash across his nose as his fathers ring had dug deep into his flesh, permanently scarring him for the rest of his life. His trusty bronze had tried to interfere and protect His but his father had swatted the annoying creature aside and leaving poor Apollo with a badly broken wing and a damaged ribcage. Unfortunately within a few days the flit had passed away after some complications that occurred from internal bleeding. Apollo had been 28.

Fed up with his life and how it had turned out so far, Velkan stormed out of his Hold after borrowing the beast masters ‘lizard and sent word to his Aunt, his mothers sister, down in the South telling her about all his fathers doings and the recent murder of his mothers flit, demanding that she use her connections with Trelis to send a dragon to fetch him. He couldn’t stay where he was anymore, he needed out. The response came within a day with instructions to wait at Ista Weyr till she could send a friend of hers to retrieve him.
It didn’t take much to get into the Weyr being the son of a Lord, even if he so happened to be a bastard, had it’s advantages. Currently he was rooming with a young Harper girl who befriended him as he patiently awaited the arrival of a Trelis dragon. He had no idea that the dragons of Ista would soon come to insist he be ushered to the sands as the thought of becoming a rider never once crossed his mind. Who knows, could this be the change that he was so desperately searching for?

Dragon Preference I haven’t a clue really as to what could fit him best. Maybe something a little troubled like himself if he Impresses. If he doesn’t Impress I’m not sure if I’ll be keeping him around so for the mauling you can tear him up if you like but still leave it up to me whether he lives or dies, just to throw in a little bit of drama on the Sands. *insert evil laugh here*
