Name Tiressa
Pronunciation Tee-RES-sah
Age 21 Turns
Season Born in Fall
Gender Female
Sexuality Heterosexual
Appearance Tiressa has straight, shimmering auburn hair, which drops all the way to her waist. Most of the time she wears it loose, usually swept over one of her shoulders. Her eyes are very deep brown, and her lashes are quite long. In addition, she has a slight, elegant build, and naturally deep-colored lips. In short, she would be quite a stereotypical woman if her actions matched her looks. Her appearance, however, is where her 'womanly' side stops.
Nothing will ever make Tiressa wear a dress. Or skirt. Or blouse. She hates all 'feminine' articles of clothing, though she does prefer tunics to shirts and leggings to pants. Even if she is going to be in public, even if everyone else will be formally dressed, the furthest Tiressa will go is putting on a dyed tunic made of good cloth, along with simple shoes and whatever type of legwear, barring skirts, goes with the top she has on. Her feet are typically covered with short boots, though she will put on sandals if the weather is hot, or wear taller, fur-lined boots if it is cold. And as for jewelry? The word's not in her vocabulary.
Personality Tiressa has a short temper, and it doesn't take much to set it going. She is especially sensitive about 'woman's work' and the like; one hint that she cannot do what a man can do and she's glaring, lips pressed tightly together as if it's all she can do to keep from shouting. As Tiressa is practiced at controlling her emotions, however, she's generally successful. Her glare has power, though, and even without words the person she's glaring at usually gets the message.
Despite her brusque behavior, Tiressa has a softer side to her personality. She never speaks harshly to the sick, and though her words stay businesslike, her actions do otherwise. When in a sickroom where the occupant is asleep, her movements become slower, her step softer, so that it is obvious she is trying the hardest she can not to disturb them.
Tiressa is not impulsive; far from it! She thinks each action through, usually for a long time, before she moves, but when she's decided to do something, few can move faster than her. Trouble is, the thinking does come first, and that takes time. She is definitely not the best at thinking on her feet, and faced with a problem that required immediate attention, she'd be lost.
Flirting? Never. Falling in love? Who, me? That short phrase perfectly encompasses Tiressa's view on love. She has absolutely no interest in flirting, love, marriage, or anything falling under the same category. Furthermore, she looks with scorn upon any who have lovers, terming them 'softies' and the action of falling in love 'going soft'. Overall, there is probably no one more likely to stay single than Tiressa.

History Tiressa was born in Apolla Hold to Lassir and Wellim, her mother and father. Lassir was a healer, Wellim a herder. Her life was fairly uneventful for the first five years of her life. At that point, her brother Shohur was born. A year later, her mother began teaching her very basic healing, saying that everyone should know basic first aid. Tiressa enjoyed the lessons greatly, and when her mother decided to end them about a Turn later, she asked if she could continue learning. Lassir agreed, but persuaded her to wait until she was old enough to be apprenticed.
Tiressa was apprenticed at twelve Turns old, and her life continued fairly uneventfully until she was fourteen. At that point, Lassir fell ill. Tiressa used the skills she had gained to treat her, but despite her efforts her mother died a few months later. She blamed herself for Lassir's death, and continued her apprenticeship, trying to learn as much as she could. In this way, she hoped to gain skills sufficient to keep any patient under her care from dying ever again.
At nineteen Turns, Tiressa became a journeyman healer. She decided to travel to Trelis Weyr, thinking that her skills would be better used there. Her father supported her, and she left Apolla Hold. She has lived at Trelis Weyr ever since, and feels that it is her home now. This, however, has isolated her from her old friends--and family--at Apolla Hold. She does not know that both her father and brother are dead; her father from old age, her brother from sickness.
Tiressa was less sorrowful than most at the death of Weyrwoman Sahelli; this could be because she had had little actual contact with her, or simply because she is good at hiding her emotions. Likewise, she was seemingly uninterested in the three new dragon colors, but who knows what her actual emotions were?
Tiressa is not exactly social, so she wasn't at the attacked gather, but she heard about it almost immediately afterward. She was shocked, but did not show it openly, instead muttering things like 'Lots of burns to heal' and 'Honestly, you'd think anyone would have more sense'.
Children stolen? Good riddance. Those are Tiressa's feelings about the missing children--at least, her stated feelings. Her actual feelings? Sympathy, anxiety...Tiressa definitely has a soft spot for children, though not many know it! She hid her true feelings partly because she wanted to maintain her reputation and partly because she didn't want to feel the way she did; if the children weren't found, she didn't want to be upset.
