Appearance Larin has been a sailor since he was nine. He walks and stands even on land as if he were at sea, with his stance always loose and easy, ready to balance against sudden waves. He is about average height and wiry. Climbing up and down masts and ropes each day, all day does not tend to put bulky muscle on anyone. His hands are heavily calloused with many small scars on them from lots of time spent baiting lines and cleaning fish.
He has brown hair bleached near blond by sea and sun and light brown eyes. His skin is darkly tanned. His hair is usually held back in a short braid with a strip of braided cord around his forehead to help keep stray hair out of his eyes. He is usually wearing canvas pants and a light cotton shirt, they are also bleached light by sun and sea, but unevenly. He has a light blue shirt to wear when on shore and a pair of sandals.
Personality Larin is tough. You have to be to survive long as a sailor. The work is physically and mentally demanding, the other sailors can be brutal in their hazing of a new guy(or a young guy) and then when you go ashore, the local boys tend to be anxious to show they are as tough as you are.
Larin isn’t a physically imposing fellow so he has had to learn to move fast and be vicious when necessary. He prefers to try to talk his way out of a situation, if he can, but this is not always possible. His belt knife has drawn blood a few times and he has a few scars on his arms from not moving quite quick enough in fights.
He has a head for maps and charts, a decent weather sense and a love of the sea. This is all good, however he also has a tendency to liven things up when he is bored and a liking for chaos. Too many days of routine make him want to tie the captain to the mast while he is sleeping off his wine, y’know? He wants more to do and more to learn. Fishing is starting to feel like it could get boring more and more often…

History Three Paragraphs at Least
Larin is the son of the Lord of Sollace’s youngest brother and a harper who was placed in Sollace Hold for a turn. When the turn was up, she left leaving her young son behind. Larin spent his first 9 years being raised with the Lord Holder’s children and then was sent to sea with his father. This has given him a good basic education and a decent set of manners, when he chooses to use them, at least.
He spent his next 3 years on his father’s boat, which gave him some protection from the rougher side of sailing and fishing. He still did all the dirty chores and the most boring jobs, but there was very little hazing done to him.
When he was 12, he was transferred to another ship and life changed. He had no protection and had to learn to hold his own unassisted. That he knew more then most apprentices helped a little, that he was nimble and very quick helped more. Learning to shut his mouth and keep his head low at times was the toughest lesson yet.
He is now just turned 17 and can see what the rest of his life holds for him. He volunteered to go on a short trip to the Weyr hoping to be searched. His mother has dragon riders in her family so maybe it will work? At the worst he’ll get a break from fishing and see the Weyr. At best? Riding a fighting dragon couldn’t ever be boring.
