Jillalene smiled as the little green flit Akiko climbed up her shirt from the warm towel she'd been huddled in to explore the silver baubles dangling from her ears as they walked down to the river. It had been so hectic her first week at the weyr and some people were talking about the river as a place to have fun and relax. She'd been down two or three times and had found a place that she'd not seen people at all week. A clear branch off of the main river that settled in a rocky pool, then continued on to rejoin the river further downstream.
Akiko twined her little green tail around one of the straps of her dress so she could tug at the earring again. It was Hers! She snorted in annoyance and flared her little wings, trying again. Hers! Why was it attached to Her own when it was her pretty shiny? She narrowed her eyes at it and began to try again, this time her attempts making the cold silver brush against Hers' neck eliciting a gasp.
"Akiko, little love dont pull on that, it's still attached!" She giggled and shifted her towel to put a hand between her little flit hatchling and her earring. "We're almost there I promise." She scooped akiko back into her arms to keep the shiny obsessed Flit from going after her earrings again and rubbed a finger under her jaw, causing a sweet cooing trill to echo from the little one's throat. After a few more minutes they finally reached the pool, Jillalene settled her towel and Akiko on one of the rocks. Akiko warbled happily and zipped into the water popping her head back up and trilling. Hers needed to come in too! Feel the weightlessness!
Jillalene smiled and nodded. "Okay okay Akiko, hold on and let me do this first."
She losened the laces on the side of her dress and slipped out of it, leaving herself in nothing but her shift. Folding the dress and laying it on the rock with her towel, then she took her leather pouch out and put her earrings and the silver circlet holding her hair back in them, drawing the opening tight. That accomplished, she slipped out of her shoes and put the rest of her belongings with her towel and dress. She almost laughed as Akiko's eyes followed the bag to its resting place.
"Don't worry little love, I'll find you some more shinies the next time a caravan comes through." Smiling, she climbed onto the large rock and let herself slip into the water, sending a splash in the flits direction.
Hers! Hers did that on purpose.... She would show Hers. She narrowed her blue eyes and darted under the water, popping up and flaring her wings at the same time sending a small wall of water up into her face.
Sputtering Jillalene grinned and dipped her head backwards, thouroughly wetting her hair and smoothing it away from her face, enjoying the weightlessness of the cool clear water and floated, for the first time easy and without a care since she'd been brought to the weyr

Saka was out on her own for once since coming to the Weyr. Generally she was with Akilu, but the older candidate had offered to help the headwoman with some weyrbrat newborns. After all, babies had to be taken care of too. Saka hummed quietly as she balanced across a fallen tree, her feet steady as she fanned her arms out. Above in another tree's branches, Tikorah cawed and crooned to His. She needed to be careful not to get hurt! The candidate hunter simply rolled her eyes and skipped off the tree and onto some rocks.
Shayde chirped from her shoulder, waking up from where she was wrapped around her neck. The flit, about three months now, was getting bigger, but she wasn't too heavy it seemed still. Saka reached a hand up to her as she wavered between two different boulders. One was slightly wet with that morning's rain though, and she slipped and landed on her back. The breath rushed out of her lungs as she laid there on the grass, her leg stinging something horrible.
Seeing His fall, Tikorah flew down to her and chirped a series of questions. Was His okay? That was one repeated at least three tines it seemed. "In fine, don't you worry either Shay." Saka sighed and got to a sitting position, wincing as the scrape on her leg hurt again. Blood oozed out of it and onto the torn stocking she had put on, the red liquid clashing beautifully with the fabric. Blue on one leg, purple on the other, though the wounded spot looked black to be honest. Saka took a hold of her gray tunic with one hand, reaching for the dagger in her boot with the other.
Slipping the steal blade away from it's sheath, she cut some fabric off her tunic making it look even more ragged than before. The patch up job all together only took a matter of minutes, and the candidate was soon on her feet testing the weight of her body. It hurt, but it was doable. Shayde flitted back down to her shoulder, the stormy lazuli tilting her head to look at Hers. "I'm fine. Really, I am." Saka assured the young firelizard, and repeated it when Tikorah's eyes swirled an alarmed green. With that, she set off again slower than before.

Jillalene surfaced giggling as Akiko pounced out of the water onto a passing bug.
Hers doesnt like bugs! Hers hates bugs! I hate bugs too! You go small thing. " She swatted it away with her tail and popped back into the water, swimming around Hers until she could settle on her shoulders.
Jillalene smiled as the little seamist green curled on her shoulders. "Good girl, you got that bug didn't you?"
Akiko flared her small wings and puffed herself up proudly. She would protect Hers! Yes! She was rewarded with a stroke under her chin and she cooed happily leaning into jillalene's hand Hers climbed out of the water, her shift clinging to her as wet fabric was want to do.
Jill climbed the face of the largest rock, finally getting on top and appreciating the heat it radiated. Almost nothing she'd seen could compare with a good sun warmed stone. She laid back and Akiko crawled off her shoulder and stretched out on the rock to sun herself.
They laid like this for a few minutes until the chill of being out of the water died away and they enjoyed the sun's warmth. Jillalene sat up, pulling her knees against her chest and smiling.
"Akiko, Littlelove, do you want to sing a bit?" She smiled fondly as the little flit spread her wings and circled excitedly walking on her toes and crawled up to sit on her knees so they were eye to eye.
Jillalene started softly, just notes on an ah vowel. Little Akiko trilled almost the same pitch and huffed. She shook her head in annoyance and tried again. PERFECTION! Soon they were singing in perfect harmony, Jillalene adjusting her notes to compliment her flit's as the little girl got more and more into it.

N'kron was the one to come around next, the holdbred boy nodding to Saka as she passed him. Ildardeth was up above, flying through the canopy. For a brown, he was amazingly acrobatic and easily saw the ways to twist between the openings in the treetops. His light brown hide flashed by evernow and again as he made a bank left or right, the sight made his rider smile. N'kron hadn't known how he'd feel about impressing when it first happened. In fact he had been somewhat upset. After all, he had escaped an arranged marriage at Ruatha his father had placed, but he had also given up his title of next in line to be Lord Holder.
Oh well, that was done and gone now. Ildardeth crooned his mind, unsure whether his rider needed him or not, but N'kron assured the brown that all was fine. Or it would be with time. He was still getting used to being a rider, and the kidnapping and flaming hadnt helped. They had gotten word at least from the riders. Apparently there was an Obsidian like Ildardeth's sister born two turns ago and was hidden there. She had clutched, new colors were impressed, some psycho was on the loose. Or at least that's what he'd attained from the lesson Ara had last given.
The brownrider smirked, the young greenrider was interesting, but not his type. He didn't like girls that were not as they tried to appear to be. It reminded him too much of home when girls would do anything to gain his favor...and money. Sighing, Nkron paused when he heard singing. The blond boy titled his head, smiling slightly as he heard the girl, for the voice was too high most likely to be male, change with a flit. Heading in that direction, the brownweyrling stood behind a tree and rock, staying as silent as possible. After watching his dragon, that wasn't too difficult. In fact, Ildardeth landed not far away and slid toward the two humans and firelizard with barely any noise. It was only when the brown put his head on N'kron's shoulder that they were given away. That was because the weyrling made a sound of surprise and jumped, no doubt alerting the girl and flit who sat away from them.

Jillalene smiled fondly, continuing the melody they'd begun. Akiko crooned sweetly and in rhythm with Hers' voice. The water added a pleasant backdrop to their song. Her voice got softer as Akiko's head twitched and her eyes flickered to a spot somewhere behind them. Something was distracting her little darling. She continued to sing though, still facing Jillalene but not really looking at her.
Akiko's eyes brightened gradually from deep emerald green to a yellow. After a moment or two, Jillalene's voice cut off abruptly, interrupted by a suprised masculine yelp from very closebye. As soon as the sound erupted, Akiko jumped, sliding down Hers' thighs and poking her head back over Jillalene's knees baring her little teeth at the sound in the trees, snorting and flaring her little wings.
She is MINE! Noone harms Mine! None at all! Her little eyes gained an orange intensity ready to fight for Hers. She would protect her mother. Protect her from everything.
Jillalene gasped crossing her arms across her barely hidden chest trying to make out the person in the edge of the woods that she knew was there. Akiko was angry, very angry. It must have really scared her for her to be acting like this, she thought. Then she picked up the protectiveness in her mind, and her heart melted again. Her little warrior.
"Who's out there?! Show yourself!"
(sorry it's so short, but bed is calling me xD)
