Gedaro sighed as he unpacked his belongings. He had just moved in from another Weyr and he was unsure of himself. As he placed his clothes neatly on his bed, he thought about his family that he had to leave behind. His father, the leader of his caravan, always jolly and sometimes stern to him and his little sister whom he almost lost in a terrible storm.
He also thought of his mother, who died after the birth of his sister. She was beautiful, even though he could hardly remember her. She had his dark brown hair and his hazel eyes while his father had black hair and brown eyes. He looked out the window. The sun was shining brightly today and he could see the small specks of black that were the dragons and their riders.
He had just finished unpacking when he heard the footsteps of a person. He quickly shut his bag tightly and tossed everything into his chest that was sitting under his bed. He opened the door and looked around. Someone was coming....

Saka pushed yet another strand of curly red mess behind her ear. She had gone exploring...again. She gotten lost...again. You would think that with how many times the huntergirl had cone here with her family, she would no the Weyr better. Her family...how were they now? The traders had planned to go to Southern Weyr to try and sell huntyres there. Were they successful? Were they okay? What about her brother, was he missing her? Did her mother stop singing her favorite lullaby at night now that she was gone?
The 14 turn old shook her head, alerting Takorah and Shayde. The Lazuli flit, chirped at her in her usual strange whistles and trills. The lunar Huntyre simply turned a watchful eye on His as she walked past his perch. As soon as she would get ahead of him, he'd fly forward again and wait. Always near a window though. Thank Faranth that there were more than just glows in this particular corridor. It helped her so much to see actually. Stopping to look out at the world, Saka found herself staring. There dragons in the distance, drilling it looked like. Maybe Ad'os was there, the candidatemaster and brownrider that had searched her and Akilu out. Akilu... Where was she? The older candidate was normally with her. Watching her really, though Saka though she followed simply because she was lonely.
Shayde rustled her wings then, sending a wonderful gust across her face to save her for a moment from the heat. It was getting later into Summer, no doubt causing Maelath's eggs to harden quicker. Saka wondered for the millionth time now if that was the reason the Istan riders had come. The children were still missing, three of them from very important family's, the other two weyrbrats but no less important to find. Were they safe? Saka thought about that as she went along moving again. Inali and Iskra and sent a small wing to Ista Weyr to discuss the matter with the Weyrleader and Woman there. That had been three days ago, and so far, if there was news the Goldriders weren't sharing it.
The life at Trelis though moved on. Lessons still went about, being taught again by K'tor. The bluerider wasn't so enthused, but she liked him fine. Soon he said they'd be able to touch Maelath's eggs. An excited thrill went through her. Saka was no Queen seeker, but the idea of touching the Gold egg made her anxious. What would it think of her? Of Akilu? Of any of the females? She just hoped it actually chose one of them. They could use another Queen at Trelis. Then there was the matter of the new colors. Would there be more? Only time could tell.
Through all of this, Saka ended up deep in the barracks, on the boy's side. Once she noticed this little fact, a blush crept along her cheeks. She really wasn't supposed to be here. looking around, she tried to be quiet, but a boy popped his head out at her. Oh! He was new! Saka smiled at him as she turned. "Hello there." Takorah cased from his perch nearby, and Shayde trilled from her place wrapped around her neck. "Didn't mean to bother you...somehow I got lost. I tend to do that a lot you see. Drives mum and dad crazy when I'm at home. They're traders, hunters too. You look kinda familiar. Maybe our paths have crossed before?"
Here Saka took a breath and titled her head. "Or maybe I'm just going all wherry-brained. Gee, that wouod be a downright shame wouldn't it? Your first friend here at Trelis going crazy. Well, at least I suppose we're friends. Most of the candidates like me...I think. Hmmm.....welcome to Trelis Weyr by the way." She finally ceased her talking and smiled at him, playing with the fringe of her tunic, and leaning against a wall. "I'm Saka by the way."

"My name's Gedaro." Gedaro replied. He stepped out of his room and leaned against the wall with the girl that was called Saka. "I'm guessing your new here too," Gedaro said "I just transferred here from Southern Weyr." He rolled his shoulders and cracked his neck. Before introducing himself, Saka had asked him if they had met before. He shrugged and said "Maybe, but not likely. I might have been too young to remember."
Looking at her, he noticed two strange creatures he had never seen before. One was the color of a lapis lazuli, the other was birdlike. "Are these yours?" Gedaro asked, giving a smirk. He licked his hand and smoothed down a cowlick that was sticking out. He did not want to look messy to a female candidate as beautiful as Saka.

Saka smiled back at the candidate. "Kind of new. I've been here since after Loraketh's clutch hatched." She listened as he spoke, nodding at the right places. Her hand though went to Shayde's hide. The stormy silver and blue firelizard craned her neck down to rub against the offered touch. "I've been to Southern a few times with my family. They were just going in the next sevenday to sell things." The redhead became more enthusiastic as she found more and more things she had in common with the boy.
It surprised her though when she was asked if 'Korah and Shay belonged to her. "Do they....well of course they do silly. Huntyres and firelizards don't just hang around people like this...usually. Shayde might, but Takorah is definitely too prideful for that." The lunar huntyre, an almost white silver ruffled his feathers at that comment, his crest straightening as he crooned. "So, are you happy to be here then? Have you seen Maelath's clutch?"

"Huntyres?" Gedaro was confused. He had seen firelizards before but never Huntyres. When Saka asked him about being happy here at the Weyr and if he had seen the new clutch, he shrugged. "No. I haven't," he replied "but I heard that we get to touch the eggs sometime before they hatch so I'm excited about that, but as for being happy here, I'm a little unsure if I'll Impress."
He cleared his throat of any acid and smiled. "What about you?" he asked "Have you seen the clutch?" As he asked her, he wondered if they'll become good friends. He thought about this for a few seconds, then shook his head. Maybe she'll become a gold rider. he wondered. I shouldn't mess around with the likes of her.
