Retired, but not adoptable.
Okay, I'm going to admit two things. Ordinarily, I wouldn't dream of bringing in a bronzer or any other high ranked male like this. However, A'zeal is Mali's weyrmate, and I've had massive muse for Mali for weeks now, so A'zeal had to come along. So. Please bear with me, and hit me with a spoon if this ain't cool. One or both of them may eventually be retired.
The things we do for muse.
Name A'zeal
Pronunciation Ah Zee Ahl
Age 36
Season Born in Fall
Gender Male
Sexuality Pansexual
Appearance
A'zeal is an average-tall man, at about 6'. He seems taller then he is thanks to his lanky limbs and frame-- he looks a touch like he's still in that awkward, still growing stage, but for the fact that he's well old enough to be done growing. It's just how he's built. His skin is light tan, his hair is sandy brown. His features are similarly as long and angular as his body are, with a touch of a too-long noise, but his face is usually wearing a grin, and his green eyes are welcoming.
He tends to wear dark, simple clothing and little in the way of excessive clothes or jewelry. He always looks slightly distracted, like his mind is somewhere else- and half the time it is. He tends to wear emotion clearly on his face, despite his better attempts.
Personality
A'zeal is trying to do his best by people with what he's been given.
One thing is readily obvious: he means well. A'zeal is primarily friendly and helpful, he likes to help people out. He is not given to the arrogance that comes with rank, as some people are. Need directions? He can give you those! Need something about the weyr explained? He can do that, if he knows the answer- though his explanation may be overlong and not quite what you wanted. He's willing to go out of his way for people.
He's also very competent. He may not be the best at the things he does, but he tries hard and he gets results. He's very willing to work and pretty good at dealing with responsibility. Need him in a certain time or place? He'll be there. Want him to do something? Tell him how and he'll try. Most of the things he does well, he's also interested in, and thus spends a lot of time with outside of his duty.
And that is one of the biggest things about him: if he's interested in something, he's very enthusiastic about it. He is a tinkerer. By far, the thing he's most interested in is more mechanical sections of smithery: how the flamethrowers work, etc. In his spare time, despite his lack of connection to the craft, he still does what he can to keep up to date. His workshop area in his weyr are full of things he's playing with, experimenting with, looking to improve: it's actually quite a mess, to both Aith and Marath's chagrin. The enthusiasm is not just limited smithery, either. Since impression he's also developed a fondness for leatherwork, and spends a lot of time on that as well: most of Marath's straps are hand made and of pretty high quality, despite his being a total newbie to the craft when he joined.
A'zeal also loves learning. It's like fine food to him: more information, more interesting information? AWESOME. He's fascinated by things, and learning more about them fascinates him further. He has sheaves and sheaves of notes spread across his weyr on all number of things, all badly in need of organization and none of it likely to get it.
As implied, Organization is not one of his strongest points. It's one of his weakest. He's never been able to even keep most of his thoughts strait, nevermind anywhere he lives or works. His process is perhaps more chaotic then many people's, and the way he lives and works reflects it. Of course, he is effective: if you need something fixed, he'll do it well. It'll take him longer then a dedicated smith, because he has to do it around his duties to weyr and family, but it will be done well, and with love.
That enthusiasm of his can sometimes get in the way. His fondness for light mechanics and his curiousity about small technical details are both very distracting to him. He may not stop in the middle of the drill, for instance, but he'll probably come around after the drill and ask the wingleader about some technicality endlessly, until the wingleader makes an excuse to leave. He also gets visibly excited when he's interested in something, or pursuing some knowledge or has found someone who knows something more about something then he does-- not hard to do, either. What happens there is that he kind of forgets himself and gets very forward, asking lots of questions fast ,or asking very strange questions. IT can sometimes get in the way.
His learning process is very.. well, smith. It's throw, and then see if you hit and miss. Guess and check. He makes connections quickly, and tends to form hypothesis about things just as quickly. The connections aren't always right- but he's willing to admit that. That's what learning is. He doesn't mind being wrong- in fact, he kind of loves it. It means there's more to learn, and that things were more complicated then he ever imagined!
A'zeal isn't really all that good at hiding things. Secrets he doesn't do so well. Tell him a secret and he'll keep it.. but he'll feel guilty about it. He'll also use discretion as to when to reveal it to people, and discuss it at length with Mali. If the secret is important enough, and he feels like he needs to tell someone for the safety of weyr or for the safety of some people, then he probably will spill the beans. For these reasons, he doesn't put too much stock in secrets: more detrimental then they're worth.
He also isn't good at hiding emotions. If he's feeling it, it's on his face. It's also in his stance, his tone of voice.. everything. You can tell exactly what kind of day A'zeal's had by glancing at him. This makes him a horrible lair, though ironically in high-pressure situations, he can sometimes lie successfully because he's so nervous about it: people think he's just nervous about the person he's talking to, not about what he's saying.
Level-headed and easygoing, A'zeal's usually pretty easy to deal with. He's a very sweet and affectionate man, and really what he wants is for the people around him to grow and be happy. Naturally gentle, violence comes to him about as easily as eating meat comes to runners. It's possible, but not good for anybody. If he likes you, you'll know it: comfort and affection will show itself easily in his body language and tone.
A'zeal takes his duty seriously. He very very much believes in trying to do the right thing, even if doing the right thing is the harder of several choices. No one said life would be easy, and he is willing to step up when he needs to. He chose to stand as a candidate because his master assured him it was the Right Thing To Do, and he's prepared to fight thread because it's the right thing to do, even if it terrifies him. He is a loyal man: his duty to his weyr and his family come first, before everything.
A'zeal would make a decent leader. He has the common-sense and people skills to be capable at the job. However, the thing that would hurt him is his total lack of organization. He would also probably not be happy in the job, because it's something he wouldn't be able to just put away after some drills. He won't seek power on his own- he's not ambitious, and has other priorities. However, in a position of power, he would be... capable. Decent. Not outstanding, but not an abject failure either.
A'zeal is a pretty fun-loving man. Granted, his idea of fun is what other people might call work-- tinkering and such-- but that's not the only thing he does. He is fairly social, and he enjoys the company of his own kind. He also especially enjoys the company of children, and is perfectly happy to play with them and humor them.
He's pretty good with kids, which is good, because he has a lot of them. As normal, he and Mali have fostered most of them off with the lower caverns. However, they still take as active a role in their lives as dragonrider parents can. Countless are the times where Marath has grudgingly allowed his rider's children to do a lap in the air with him, because it would please the kids. He always dreamed of having a family, and though things didn't QUITE progress as he'd imagined when he was a teenager and happily ensconced in the smith hall, he's happy with what he's got.
His and Mali's relationship is comfortable and even. Marath wins most of Aith's flights, but not all the time, and he also chases other females- but that's weyr life. It took him awhile to adjust to that- honestly, it was the biggest hurdle-- but it helped that Mali had grown up in a weyr and knew it was no big deal. Outside of flights, they are exclusive to each other. They do, however, maintain their own weyrs, though A'zeal's weyr is more of a workshop then anything else. That's actually the reason for the seperate weyrs: A'zeal's natural lack of organization drives both Mali and Aith up a wall.
His famiyl is really the only thing that can get A'zeal's hackles up: specifically, threats to them. He is protective, and though violence and anger does not come naturally to him, keeping his family safe is important, and he'll do what he needs to in order to ensure they stay safe.

History
A'zeal was born and raised in the smith hall, and it seemed for awhile that he was going to stay there until he died, too. His childhood was fairly normal, if filled with much tinkering and technicalities, and at the age of 10 he joined the ranks of smith apprentices, jumping into the craft with the zealousness people ordinarily reserve for food. He never seriously considered options outside of smithing- not until he was about 14, anyway.
At that point, on an errand for his master, he ran into a visiting green, quite literally. She was more curious then angry, and her rider, through laughter, informed him that he would make an excellent candidate, with fearlessness like that. Then she said she was serious about the offer, and that he should try his hand at candidacy.
He was shocked, to put it mildly. He went to his master for advice: his master had spent a few turns standing, as well, and frequently showed his students the scars he'd gotten from a mauling. The man told A'zeal to take the opportunity, if only to expand his horizons and have a bit of an adventure, and A'zeal followed his advice.
As luck would have it, he managed to impress Marath that hatching at Trelis Weyr. From there life shifted, and in a totally strange way. He wasn't really used to the weyr, and that was the biggest hurdle he had to cross as a weyrling: getting used to these somewhat stranger customs.
Eventually he managed, and since then has been living quite comfortably with Marath and his weyrmate Mali, with whom he has fathered many children.

Appearance Marath is a big boy-- still well within average for his color, but nevertheless on the large end of the spectrum. He's also built like a linebacker: solid and heavy. If he set himself, only the queens themselves would be able to make him move, and even then they'd be using words. He's a very light color, for a bronze- many mistake him for a brown. His base is a deeper, beige-toned bronze, and creamy bronze-toned markings curl around that base, mostly on his underbelly. They switch to the top of his neck when they reach his upper body, dripping down the sides of his neck twice as they climb to his head. On his head, only his headknobs and the tip of his muzzle are marked in the creamy shade.
Personality
Strong and Noble. That's how Marath likes to think of himself.
Regardless of whether he is those things, he is patriotic. He loves his weyrs, and he loves his queens. He'd do anything for them. He is proud to announce, at gathers and at meetings where dragons of various nationalities gather, that he is a bronze of Trelis weyr, and his tone implies that there is no greater place to be from then Trelis weyr. He doesn't really question this: it's simply a given fact.
It informs most of his decisions and his sense of duty. Marath takes duty as a concept VERY seriously. The highest form of honor- and he is an honorable dragon- is fulfilling his duty to queen and country. Even in small ways, he will be impeccable: he will badger A'zeal to get ready for drills early, so that they can be on time.
In flights, he is devoted and serious. He does tend to chase Aith most often, being as it's his weyrmate's dragon, and he actually loves her. However, fatherhood is an important goal to him, so he chases other females too- specifically ones that can lay eggs. He's fascinated by the new colors, as well.
The thing that attracted him to A'zeal was A'zeal's curiosity: something he shares, though perhaps a lesser extent. He wants to know how the world works, and he'll frequently spark discussions to that effect amongst other dragons or A'zeal. He is one of the few people who doesn't get bored of listening to A'zeal's excessively detailed explanations to things, though he recognizes that others do, and usually provides a gentle reminder to his rider to tone things down a little when speaking to people who aren't fluent with the jargon. He himself learns quickly, and is prone to investigating things which he finds curious.
Marath's people skills are not the best. A cynic and a pessimist, he typically expects the worst of people, and acts like it. He doesn't quite notice when some comments are rude, or at least callous, and makes them. His judgement is fast and harsh, and his mind is hard to change.
He comes off as very surly, even when he doesn't mean to be. That surliness is kind of infused in everything he does: the way he walk is just tense enough to convey it, his eyes are usually toned with some yellow or orange or red, even when he's perfectly happy or pleased. He just doesn't come off as all that nice.. which is fair, because he really isn't all that nice.
He is not a patient dragon. He doesn't like waiting for things. Waiting around for something that isn't pressing is not a big deal-- if they have nothing better to do, he's perfectly fine lingering around while A'zeal spends a ton of time tinkering. If they need to do something or are going to be late for something, however, his tolerance diminishes, and his impatience shows. The more he is made to wait, the more he'll get snappish and ornery and unfriendly.
Let it never be said that Marath makes rash decisions. While it can't be said that he dawdles, he takes the time to think about what he's doing before he decides to do it. He needs to be sure he's willing to deal with it and it will go like he thinks to. He is a thinker, and there is nothing he disrespects more then rashness.
He is a careful beast. Everything he does, he does with care, and a surprising amount of finesse. He can pick up small and fragile things, for example, that he'd probably be able to crush with no issue. He just takes his time with it and goes gently, and that lets him collect the small little smith parts that end up strewn across his couch when A'zeal is working and he is not there. That care shows in most of the other things he does, too. He does things well and precisely, because he cares enough to do it properly, and he takes his time.
Emotions don't inform most of Marath's decisions, and he finds it odd that they do for some people. He cannot grasp why people would want to be ruled by something so uncontrollable. He is a logical beast, and is perfectly happy to be such. Everything he does is reasoned through, and he makes sure it's the right and good decision when he makes it. His version of right and good, that is, which might be harsher then a normal person's.
Mind-voice (If applicable)
I need no other reason, but to serve my queens and my Weyr.
All things considered, most people would expect Marath to have a deep, strong voice. He doesn't, really: it's more of a high-pitched whine. It's not quite so high as to be shrieking or piercing, but it is, nevertheless, closer to an alto then a bass. In fact, occasionally people mistake his voice for belonging to a female, until they see him in person. His voice brings alongside it the impressions of strength and strong winds, even if it can cause some gender confusion.
Okay, I'm going to admit two things. Ordinarily, I wouldn't dream of bringing in a bronzer or any other high ranked male like this.
