Loraketh hissed as the "fight" started on the sands. The others could put there word in, but hers would be the last. Either stop bickering or leave boy! It is your choice. Snapping her jaws only a foot from Derek's face, the gold hissed another warning before Inali pulled on the mental bond. Enough Lore, I think he understands. Nodding her head, the gold crooned at her little daughter that was shivering on the sands. She didn't like fights! The Jumping Yellow green soon forgot about fights though and was back to zooming around the sands. Here was an egg, and look, here was another egg! OOOOOOH EGGS! So pretty too! Zipping from egg to egg, the green rammed into the Dark Desires egg. It should come out and play! Crooning the tiny green didn't seem to care that she was only about a third of the dark shell's size. Cracking along its side, the egg finally split in two and revealed....."What is that!?!" Inali gasped as a dark shape tumbled from the shell. Shaking its head, the red hatchling hissed at the little green. Oh, this would be fun! Snapping his jaws in her direction, the male hissed again, for he was most definitely male. He would love this! The green cried out in terror as she just barely missed the red hatchling's claws. Scary! Running in circles, the Jumping Yellow soon found that her game was fun though. The red male couldn't keep up with her! Roaring, the red lashed out his tail. He was a dark red color, almost black with bright ruby stripes going down his spine and thick on his underside. Cocking his head, the red dragonet seemed to smirk. This game of cat and mouse was fun in deed! Of course, the red dragonet thought it good for an entirely different reason. Nearby, the Black and White egg started to crack as well. Snapping his head in the sound's direction, the red male stalked over to wait for his new prey. Seeing her chance, the Jumping Yellow green raced for Hers. She had seen the girl long ago, though the dragoness did stop by a few of the candidates to play with their flowing robes. After all, she was safe near Hers right? MIIIIIINE!!!!!! OH, MINE, MINE, MINE! Your Yazhith has found you AkiraMine! I love you, yes I do....wait food, yes food! That's what I came here for, but did you see that Mine?!? Wasn't that funny what I did with my red brother? I think it was, oh yes, I think it most definitely was! Oooooh, wait was I supposed to do something? Oh yes! Food, food, food, pretty please with more food on top?!? Oh, wait! Look at that there AkiraMine! IT'S SOOOO PRETTY! It's all gray and pink, and oooh look, my sibling that comes from that will be just beautiful. I'm pretty right Mine? I think I am....here I'll check. Hmmm.....YES! I most certainly am...WAIT!!!!! Lighter blue ran down his sides though, and still a paler hue was underneath him. All in all he was a striking blue, however the red dragonet had other plans. Hissing, the red jumped on the blue dragonet in a screeching fury, talons digging into the newborn's sides. This was his purpose! To kill, and to harm! Loraketh roared at her son to stop at that moment. She would have none of this! The red ignored his large mother though. She was inconsequential, not worth his time. It wasn't until a dark shape darted out of the shadows that the red let go of his latest victim. Rounding on the newcomer, the red dragonet hissed. What was this!?! He thought that he was the only new one here! Yet, standing in front of the red hatchling was a darkly colored female. Slate gray on her top half and black on her bottom she was anything but a green or gold. Yet, if one counted, it was obvious that she had come from the Gray Dawn egg. As normal though, the egg had hid in the shadows until the time was right. That time was now. Normally she wouldn't care about what happened to others, however she was in charge right now! The dark female snapped at her brother, who was smaller than her even. In an impressive display of dominance, the red dragonet finally backed off. Hissing, he looked around at the candidates. Girls were too much like that thing that had stopped him. They were useless! Reaching out for a female candidate, he stopped midway as he felt the fire in another not far off. Turning his red eyes on the boy, the red dragonet crooned. Well D'rekMine! We are one in the same are we not? Mine and your Emiath. Slithering over to the boy, the red dragonet nuzzled His slightly before rearing back and bowling the boy over. See !?! We even both bleed! Sinking his teeth into the boy's arm, Emiath crooned affectionately. Everything bleeds Mine, isn't it wonderful and enticing? Is not your prey's screams and fear just beautiful music? Close by the blue from before seemed to be recovering a bit. It wasn't so bad really, at least that's what he kept trying to say. He hated his red brother, but he loved his dark sister. Snorting, the female shook her head again and moved away from the blue. He wasn't worth her time really, she had more important things to do! Like finding Hers. Yes, that was what was best. Ignoring the boys, the dragonet trotted over to the girl she had picked from the first moments out of the egg. Honestly, if anyone had been wondering, those first moments were when Yazhith had commented on the pretty shell of the Gray Dawn egg. Anyway, that was in the past now, Finally arriving at Hers, the dark female stared Aela in the eye. I am your Talath, AelaMine. R'hard had heard the congratulations and comments from other candidates, but hadn't quite registered them, too distracted by his recent Impression. That changed with only a few words. "The sharding brown only Impressed you because it felt sorry for you!" He couldn't quite tell which candidate had said so, but he turned around, and even Kaith raised his by-now bloody muzzle from the bucket of meat to stare in the direction of the offending comment. He hadn't seen which candidate said it, but then he didn't really need to.
R'hard was startled but touched at how quickly Aela came to his defense, ranting at another candidate R'hard now recognized as Derek. He was briefly worried that it was going to turn into a fistfight, and he couldn't imagine Loraketh being okay with that on the hatching sands. That's nonsense, R'hardMine. Kaith seemed to think he needed to reassure his rider, though R'hard hadn't really taken the words to heart, assuming the other candidate was lashing out because he'd been passed over for Impression. I chose you from the beginning, I just didn't see the point in hurrying.
"I know that, Kaith," R'hard told him. The brown was clearly still hungry, but the worst of it had faded, and he felt he could trust the brown not to choke now. "Wait here for just a moment and finish your meal." With that, he took off in the direction of the eggs to break up the fight.
He hadn't even gotten halfway there, though, when Loraketh took matters into her own hands. The great Queen hissed and snapped at Derek's face, but things already seemed to have calmed down a bit. Or perhaps "calm" wasn't quite the right word. Everybody's attention was soon drawn to the Dark Desires egg, which had hatched open to reveal a dragon the likes of which Pern had never seen before. He was a deep, dark red, his body marked with stripes of blood red, and his interest in the other hatchlings was predatory. R'hard watched as the new hatchling pounced first on the green, but left her alone to find her own bond, and turned on the blue that had just hatched.
R'hardMine? Kaith had finished eating, and drawn to the action on the hatching sands, had followed R'hard's footsteps.
"Stay away from that one, Kaith," R'hard said, suddenly frightened.
I hadn't planned on doing otherwise, Kaith replied, but the brown curled his tail around R'hard's leg possessively. Halfway between the weyrling tables and the semicircle of candidates, the brown dragon and weyrling watched as a second new color appeared from one of Loraketh's favored eggs, this one as black as her brother was red.
For a moment R'hard was afraid a fight would break out between the two hatchlings, but the red finally backed down and retreated to the line of male candidates. Perhaps R'hard shouldn't have been surprised when the red hatchling picked the heckler Derek out as his rider, but he couldn't say he was glad. Rider and dragon both were sure to be a headache in the upcoming turns of Weyrlinghood. Even so, he couldn't help but wince as the red sunk his teeth into D'rek's arm after Impressing him. That dragon was a menace...
Even as he watched, the black hatchling made her own way to the candidates, and R'hard whooped in excitement when it became clear she had chosen Aela as her rider. "See? I told you you'd do it!" R'hard had no idea what sort of dragon the obsidian was, but considering the way she had handled her garnet brother, he was predisposed to like her anyway.

Stallorth watched as his mate broke up the fighting between the candidates. Though, he had a feeling that even if the boy had left, he would still find his lifemate within this clutch of eggs. He wasn't sure why, but it was just how he felt. He shook his head as he watched his smallest green daughter dart around the sands as if her tail was on fire. That one has so much energy, and seems to never stop! Stallorth was actually starting to get dizzy by the time the little female rammed into another egg. T'rian laughed at his bronze's words, and watched everything that happened from the safty of his large bronze leg.
T'rian stared at the dark hatchling that had hatched as a result of the little green's ram. What on earth is that thing? It isn't like any dragon I've ever seen! He was amazed by the hatchling's dark red color, and wondered what kind of dragon it was. Stallorth mean while was finally keeping his words to himself. He was completely confussed by the color of his dark son. Instead of saying anything, he just watched, and let the hatchlings do as they wished. Yet when Lore hissed, and the male hatchling didn't stop until his sister intervined he made his disicion on the male. He didn't like him, he was too cruel, and would never see the pleasnt side of his bronze father. Even if the hatchling was going to be larger than himself one day.

Akira watched wide eyed as the green ran around the eggs. She didn't really like the large hatchling's colors, but when he started chasing the small green around, she felt like she should jump in, and stop the two hatchlings before something bad happened. Yet, to Akira's great suprise, the little green ran straight to Akira, and she almost feinted when she heard the hatchling's voice inside her head.
Oh yes! FOOOOOOOOOOD...please?
Of course Yazhith. Akira's words were quiet, and shocked as she spoke to the excited green hatchling. She was too obsorbed with her own dragonet that she completely missed everything that happened on the sands. Instead she slowly lead the green to the table of food and oil, and grabbed one of the buckets of meat. When Yazhith saw the food she started to quickly gobble it down. No Yazhith! Slow down! Akira quickly pulled the food away from the green. But AkiraMine I'm hungry!! Akira smiled at Yazhith, and started to slowly hand her pieces of meat so that she wouldn't choke herself.

Nick on the other hand was too busy watching the red dragon with a strange mix of fear and hatred of the dark red male. He hoped and prayed that that would not be his. He turned his attention away from the dark hatchling and watched as a female candidate slowly walked off with the energetic looking green hatchling. He smiled, and congratulated her, though he felt as though she was too shocked to even notice anything but her new dragonet. He then turned his attention back in time to see the dark red male being told off by a darker looking hatchling.
Nick watched the dark red dragonet with a strange kind of horror in his eyes as it aproached the male candidates. He was starting to feel like running away when it picked the candidate that had gotten into a fight with the female candidate. He sighed a very loud sigh of relieve, and turned his head back to the sands. He felt as though he should run out and see if he could help the little blue dragonet, but he had learned that that wasn't a very wise thing to do. So instead he watched as the darker looking hatchling found hers, and impressed the female candidate that had gotten into a fight with the newly impressed male candidate.
This should be interesting. Nick felt like rubbing his hands together, and start taking bets on how long it would take the two of them to get into another fight. He decided better, and turned his attention back to the sands, and started wondering about the blue that had been injured. He hoped the little guy would be ok, and that he would find His, and not between. The though of a dragonet betweening gave Nick the shivers, so he made himself stop thinking about it, and start thinking about the remaining eggs, and his possibilities of impressing one of their inhabitants.

Aela glared as D'rek Impressed. And of course the Dragon he had Impressed to was as rude and uncompassionate as he was. Suddenly... I am your Talath, Aelamine. I saw you from the shadows, but I waited...unfortunately I had unpleasant business to deal with first. You are strong Mine, fit for this Obsidian. We will show everyone what is right and wrong together Mine. After all, isn't that what Sub-Queens do?
Sub-Queen? Aela was weak in the knees. She was high enough to be a Queenrider if Talath was telling the truth. Sub-Queen? It finally sunk in and Aela's face broke with a wicked grin and shimmering eyes. "Talath.... my Obsidian. Together you and I WILL show others what is right and wrong."
The Obsidian snorted. Of course we will. Isn't that what I just said? But the Obsidian female knew she had chosen the right one. Aela had shown great promise when standing up for R'hard. Now her courage had been rewarded.
Aela led Talath away from the Sands and stuck her tongue out at D'rek, "I guess you make a lovely pair. A couple of dislikable males." Aela continued forward until she reached R'hard. "Look!" She said in a little squeak. She showed Talath off who gave a glare to Emiath before joining Aela, R'hard, and Kaith. A blast of cold air hit Aela's neck and Crest appeard. "What coming to admire Talath?" She grinned at R'hard, "She's a sub-Queen. I think I'm a Queenrider... of sorts."
That was of course something she hadn't thought possible. Yet here it was, Aela with Obsidian Talath. "Thanks R'hard. I know. I'm just sorry we have to put up with D'rek still." She smiled at her friend, "I would do anything for my friends no matter the cost."
And that right there is showing others what was right. R'hard seems like a good boy and I approve of him. Talath said, eyes whirling a blue/green color.
Aela grinned, "She approves of you. Better than she approves others." With a quick look she turned her gaze to D'rek, "Though that Garnet is a rather magnificant color, I'd have to say Obsidian and brown are better." She looked at Talath, "You know I was pretty much expecting Green."
Talath snorted. Well you don't and here I am so get used to it. Even though her words seemed harsh she was pleased that Aela liked her. Talath would do anything to show D'rek and Emiath that she was better than they were. Mine I believe we have an enemy.
"Oh tell me about it. After the way I treated D'rek on the Sands I doubt he'd have any love for me nor Emiath for you. Though I hoped Emiath is tamed a little over the course of the Turns." Aela was very proud of her accomplishments. She would have to send a message to her sister and parents to tell them the good news. "Well Crest. You have a companion and a pretty one at that."
Talath's eyes whirled blue/green again and she extended her speech to R'hard as well. She wanted to tease just for a moment. I am not pretty. I am magnificant.
Aela laughed and said, "Eat you silly little creature." Aela watched as Talath finally stopped talking and began eating. "I look forward to seeing what's in store for her. Since she's a Sub-Queen that means she's a Clutcher." She turned to R'hard. "I hope to see you at any future Flights of hers. I'd rather spend an entire Turn with you then 5 minutes with D'rek." Aela shivered. She wished things had gone better between her and the Garnetrider.

His eyes widened slightly as the large, tooth filled, maw of the Queen mother snapped dangerously close to where he was standing. Instantly his mind flashed back to when he had been tricked onto the sands as a youngster and came face to face with another agitated Queen. Ry took half a step back, even as the gold returned her attention to her hatchlings and the rest of the yet unhatched eggs.
The next egg to hatch revealed a very interesting colored hatchling. Dark red, with a hide that looked like it was almost bleeding, and a fiesty attitude to match. Ry watched in awe as the little red pounced on his blue brother before being chased off by another hatchling, this one dark in coloration and clearly female by the way she broke up the fight and pushed around her authority. He couldn’t help the small sigh of disappointment that escaped him as the red then the black went and Impressed to two of the other Candidates.
Forcing himself to remain calm, Ry mustered a small smile in the direction of the hatchlings and their bonded. He might have feigned the look of happiness for the others but he was growing ever more nervous by the minute. The line of Candidates was getting dangerously thin and he had still not Impressed. Taking another half step back, Ryaxth looked from the already Impressed Red and Black to the remaining eggs. Still holding out hope that his future companion might have been waiting for him.
------
Shouldn’t you be on the sands in case of an injury? The large bronze asked his Rider, eyes swirling a green/yellow as he looked at his bond-mate. “Hmm…” Was all S’val said, his attention was too fixed on the commotion going on on the Sands. Well it was an interesting Hatching to say the least. He made a mental note to go through some of the records to see if anything like this had ever happened before. He had read of a white dragon once, but that was a one off thing. Being unable to reproduce there were no other odd colorations to be found after the white dragon passed.
“If the Weyrleaders wanted us on the Sands she would have asked me…but just to be sure…” In a flash S’val leapt up to Solarith’s neck and the bronze jumped from their ledge to land a few levels down on yet another unoccupied ledge. Still above the Sands but a lot closer in case anything serious happened and he was called on to lend a hand. The bronze rumbled a low growl as the little red began to cause a commotion on the Sands. “Easy, Sol…you know Impression can be a tricky game.”

Iskra clapped politely from her place in the stands as first the green, then a brown found their riders and successfully Impressed. Everything seemed to be going alright so far, and despite her dislike for Inali, she was glad. A bad hatching would reflect badly on the Weyr as a whole. Then a couple of the candidates started fighting, apparently triggered by the brown's Impression, and the goldrider scowled. The fools were going to get themselves barred from standing if they kept that up, or even mauled, and it would serve them right, as far as she was concerned.
Then the strange, red-colored dragon hatched. Iskra couldn't hide her surprise. She'd seen mention of a white dragon in old hatching records, but as far as she knew, there'd never been a red dragon to hatch from an egg before. Her fleeting good mood quickly soured as the aggressive red started attacking his clutchsiblings. This was not good. Occasionally newly-hatched dragons mauled candidates or their fellow dragonets on the hatching sands, but most often that was due to simple confusion and clumsiness, not malice. This red hatchling was clearly enjoying himself, and already Iskra was hearing murmurs from the crowd, uneasy with the red's behavior. That uneasiness could too quickly turn to fear, and fearful people in large crowds always did stupid things. She just hoped the red would settle down and Impress soon.
Instead, Loraketh's precious Grey Dawn egg hatched, revealing a second new color. This one was black, and clearly female. Fortunately, she only turned her ire towards her brother, and her large size insured her ability to dominate him. Well, thank Faranth for small favors, then. Still, she pondered the appearance of these new dragons. Was that black dragoness a fighter or a queen? At least the two of them Impressed--ironically to the two candidates who had fought earlier. She didn't envy Alyara having to deal with those weyrlings.
Hopefully that would be the end of the surprises in this clutch, but one thing was for sure. Iskra was going to have to take a more thorough look through the records once this hatching was over. And possibly have a talk with the Weyrleaders later as well. The majority of the Weyrfolk were too dragon-besotted to do anything but welcome the new colors, but Iskra had a feeling not everyone would feel that way, especially given the garnet's behavior.

(( Lark gave me permission to have Lynx sit in the Stands. She will not be RPed anywhere else until accepted. ))
Kelcalar crossed his arms and eyed the woman standing near him. She was smiling, her eyes had a mischievous look about, as there seem to be a pause to decide who was talking next. "You are crazy, Lynx. Me? With one? I doubt that would happen."
"But, lovely, I would not get a chance to have a little fun."
Kelcalar chuckled as he shook his head. "Keep wishing, but it will never happen," he said, winking back at her. At that moment, Lynx`s trio of Lizards began to stir. With chirps to one another, they leaped up in the air and betweened off somewhere. Lynx turned to look at her dragon, which there seemed to be an internal conversation. "You better get going, Kel. I hear the Gold hates Candidates who are late. Will eat them."
"Shards! It is now!" he shouted, turning and running straight for the Candidate barracks. Upon arrival, he ran into several who were on their way out, white robes standing out against the brownish-tan rocks of the Weyr. Kelcalar muttered a few curses as he quickly threw his clothes to the other side of his shared room and grabbed his borrowed Candidate robes. He ran out the room, his foot hitting the side of a sharp rock and cutting him. He winced and swore again, but ignore it. He could get treated for it later. For now, he was NOT going to be late for this! This was his chance to show his worth!
And he ran onto the Sands, just in time to watch the first Green and Brown Impress to their respected new Riders. Kelcalar grinned and clapped for them while giving Tahoi a quick wink. Yeah, even now he was still flirting. Might as well get the last bit in for now. Once Weyrlinghood came, there would no longer be time to flirt. He would have to wait until after graduation to even have a little fun. OR at least until his dragon or the other person`s dragon was old enough. But did not think he would not Impress. He seriously hoped he would.
Turning back, he saw Lynx wave and wink to him from above. He could have laughed, but decided to hold it in. Better not have an angry, brooding Gold severe his head from his body. He turned to have his head and eyes facing the eggs again, but briefly glanced down to look at his foot. Well, it was not bleeding so much anymore. The dry blood was forming a red, crystal-like shell to stop his foot from bleeding more. He heard a roar and looked up. There was a Green. And wait, was that a new color? And another? Well, he would have to find out and get more information later. This was interesting. There were going to be new colors. He grinned tilted upward more at the thought. This was going to be very interesting indeed.

He was NOT pleased about having to get up so early. Not pleased at all! In fact, the last time he had been up this early was when the bugling of a search dragon had roused him from slumber. Jaksidol blinked his eyes open, noticing the darkness of the room. Stretching lazily, he tried to guess what hour it was, and based off the sleeping form of his green firelizard, Bit, he guessed it must still be dark outside; the room seemed to hold perpetual darkness and never really felt like day anyways. He contemplated going back to sleep since he had nothing but those ridiculous candidacy chores to do all day, as if having done then thousands of times in the past few turns had taught him nothing about the ‘responsibility’ involved with dragons. He hardly believed rewriting dusty old records was anything like raising a fire-breathing dragon. He rolled over; hoping to laze about a while longer, yet despite his hopes sleep seemed to evade him. Shards.
Rising with another stretch, which in the light would have shown off his shirtless, muscular upper body, he decided he would grab something to eat before the regular breakfast hour. His shuffling movements roused Bit, who hated letting her human out of her sight. She chattered at him, complaining about the dark, and about how he was betraying her by standing again. He ignored her ramblings, having heard the same high squeaking every day since he impressed her roughly two turns ago. He scratched her eye ridge as she landed on his shoulder with a huff of annoyance at his attitude, and he sent her warm feelings of love to make her feel better. Pleased, she changed her chattering to proud whistles and trills that meant nothing more than her simple pleasure at hearing her own voice.
Quickly changing into something that would not earn him nasty glares in the dining hall, Jaks slipped out of the barracks room with practiced ease, not wanting to wake anyone. The other candidates were the thing he hated most about candidacy. He was not a mean, hateful person by any means. However, Jaks was rather… physical when it came to other people, and the fact he wasn’t allowed to sleep with any of the other candidates made him loathe every moment he spent with them. Really, some of them were just so adorable, he was amazed he had lasted this long. Bit scolded him, reminding her human that they had been among the last candidates brought to the Weyr, so he had not spent much time here at all. In fact, he had not even learned most of their names, and he had not really spoken to any of them. He had learned the hard way that candidacy was the one place he could not screw around – literally. The fire lizard launched herself from his shoulder as he entered the dining hall, all to content to grab a meatroll or two before the workers chased her off. Grabbing a plate full of food, Jaksidol chuckled as he watched Bit narrowly miss being hit by a rolling pin. He had to give it to the cooks; they were getting awfully quick. She returned to his shoulder to show her man what she had accomplished, ready to reap the rewarding rub that always followed. Like always, she received what she wanted.
He had almost finished his quiet meal, sun just beginning to rise on the horizon when Bit took up the all-too-familiar hum. Shards, had that day arrived already? Bit jumped from his shoulders to show off her aerial skills as she hummed. His thoughts about the eggs were confirmed a moment later by the voice of Zalanth. Ignoring Bit, he left his dishes on the table, well aware he did not have time to deal with it at the moment. He had pretty far to go to grab those godforsaken robes that did nothing to show off just how gorgeous he was, falling all loose and lumpy over his otherwise amazing form. Well, after today he would get to put the robes away once again, if only temporarily. He took off at a run, his muscles rippling as he tore back to the barracks. Skidding into the room, with Bit popping in from between while he pulled on his sandals and wrinkled, traditional robes, he was out of breath and was finding it hard to believe he might screw himself over for another hatching just because he woke up early. No other candidates were in the barracks by the time he tore out in the direction of the sands. He knew Bit would follow him to the sands, chattering angrily at being betrayed as she did EVERY time, and fly off when they reached the sands to hum and hiss from somewhere in the crowd. She did not like Jaks trying to get another bonded, but she knew what was expected of her during that time anyways. She behaved as expected, shooting off his shoulder the moment he stepped on the sands.
Looking over the sands, he gulped as he realized how much he had already missed, and quickly tried to shuffle into the group of boys, though he was sure the weyrqueen would notice anyway. Well, not that he would not mind being punished by the very attractive woman that rode Loraketh. Indeed, maybe he should have made a bigger entrance just to get that lovely lady’s attention. Well, it was too late now. He took a moment now to take in what he had missed. A number of eggs had cracked and hatched already, dragonets were on the sands. A green had hatched, no two, and he wondered if one of them had been the first to hatch. There was also a brown, and an injured looking blue. He wished he had been there in time to try to interest the brown to him, but it, like one of the greens, had already found a rider. He gave the new weyrlings a look-over, sizing up the humans. Yes, he decided, had it not been for the rules of candidacy and weyrlinghood he would have definitely attempted to ‘have some fun’ with them.
It was as he looked over the weyrlings that he noticed something… strange. On top of that, he noticed the hushed murmurs that seemed to follow the RED dragonet as he moved around. At first Jaks had mistaken the large creature as an oddly coloured brown… but calling it a brown just did not feel right. The strange red was not the only one out there. Well, only red one perhaps, but there was another colour he had never before seen in all his years of candidacy, and this one was female. What was going on here? How had he not noticed mutated dragons at the Weyr? He glanced up at the ledges, raising an eyebrow as he realized that there were, in fact, no other strangely coloured dragons. He felt suddenly uneasy… wondering what this all could possibly mean. More importantly, would he be able to woo the mutated ones’ riders? Well, even if he could he would have to wait until they graduated before he could try anything. Damn rules! Well, despite his annoyance, he was ‘happy’ for the new pairs, if not a bit jealous.

Not one, but two candidates were late! Loraketh turned her attention from her eggs to the newcomers, growling deep in her throat. Inali thankfully was able to calm her dragon. Sweetheart, maybe you should announce to everyone what the two new colors are? The gold hesitated for a second, looking at the two boys with swirling red, blue eyes. After a moment though she moved her head away and faced the entirety of the hatching. The female named Talath is called an Obsidian. She is not a fighter like a green, and she is not a Queen. She is a new rank called Sub-Queen. The other, and here Loraketh hissed slightly, is named Emiath is called a Garnet. He's..like a Brown.Done with that, Loraketh directed everyone's attention to the sands where the injured blue was whimpering. He didn't want to be hurt anymore! Flicking one bleeding wing, he inspected the apendage. It would be fixed in time, but it would take a bit. Looking around, the White Dancer egg began to shake as well. Hissing, the blue went over to it. He didn't want to be hurt again! Though, this egg was much, much smaller than the one that had held that Garnet. Cocking his head to the side, the blue sat down and watched as the White Dancer egg started to form long cracks. Soon, it was completely fractured on one side. With a final great push a white sing spur pushed through. Then a head followed, tiny and pale. Crooning, the white dragonet slipped out of his shell and looked up at his larger clutchmate...and growled. Amused by this, the blue growled back playfully. It seemed quite like two canines playing together, one small and the other much larger. Wagging his tail, the white rose up on his haunches and pounced at the larger blue. In return the other male snorted and "fell" down. They went at this for a while, "attacking" one another and playing tag until they got closer to the Luminous Light Egg. Neither the blue or the white was paying attention as they tumbled into the bronze and gold egg. Shaking his little head, the white crooned unhappily. That had hurt! Sent into a frenzy of cracks, the occupant of the large egg pushed against its confining shell. It wanted out! It wanted others to see it! Finally pushing a wing spur through, the hatchling inside tumbled out after. It was a strange thing somewhere between an orange and a bronze color. It's hide was slightly metalic though like with Talath's. Looking around, the hatchling crooned happily. All eyes were on her as they were supposed to be! Pleased with the attention, the female, because she was most definitely female, looked down at the blue and white dragonets. They were not important, only slightly so because they gave her attention. Knocking the tiny white on his side, the female started to prance and strut around the sands. Look at her! All eyes should be on her! That's what she wanted. Opening and closing her wings, the new female crooned in delight. The white however wasn't pleased by the way the female had brushed him off. Shaking his wings out so that the sand would stop sticking to them, the little male looked around at the candidates. The blue after all had already started going around to them and was now sniffing through the girls. Snorting, the white strode over to His, puffed up to make himself look as big as possible. Eyeing a equally small green that had already impressed, the white warbled happily. At least he was a bit bigger than her! Snorting, the white turned his head back to His. There you are N'ckMine! Your Kicheth has been looking for you everywhere. That orange thing was so horrible! No matter Mine, I'll survive. She can't get me down. I'm not tiny and useless like she said I was. No. I. Am. Not! I'm a big dragon, I don't care if I'm only white! Food NOW! Yes, you'll do nicely K'larMine! We're going to be amazing, you and your Eyildayth, and we'll show that Garnet that I can overcome this injury Mine! We'll show the world....and then we'll play. R'hard was startled to realize the obsidian was something like a queen, not just a fighter like a green, but he grinned crookedly at Aela. "Congratulations, then, Sub-Queenrider." Not only new colors, but completely ranks. The next few turns promised to be...interesting.
He went to say, "I approve of her too, the way she handled Emiath." He laughed. "You expected green, I expected blue. Both of us were surprised. Not unhappy, though." He stroked Kaith's headknobs fondly as the brown crooned at him.
He frowned at the mention of D'rek and his garnet. "Well, hopefully the Weyrlingmaster and the queenriders will help to keep those two in line. If not, I think Talath and Kaith together could definitely handle him. Hopefully it won't come to that, though."
He was surprised when the obsidian chose to talk to him directly, if only to tell him how magnificent she was. He laughed at that. "Well, she is!" Kaith, who had settled down on the sand again once he realized he had a chance to rest for a moment, seemed unimpressed; probably too young yet to really appreciate females. Ah well, he'd get the hang of it once his sisters started rising.
Speaking of which....He nodded. "If you want me there, definitely. It'd be interesting to see what sort of kids they produce. I just hope they all wouldn't be as lazy as this lug," he joked. Kaith didn't say anything to that, but R'hard got the feeling he was experiencing a dragon's mental equivalent of sticking their tongue out at someone.
Looking at the obsidian's rider, R'hard remembered the ban on relationships for weyrlings and realized the next two turns might be frustrating for reasons other than Emiath and his rider.
Fortunately, the hatching of more eggs distracted them. "A white?" R'hard exclaimed in surprise. That wasn't quite on the level of the garnet or obsidian appearing, but it was still a surprise to see it hatch...and then the Luminous Light egg that such a fuss had been made of started to crack. When he saw what came from the egg, R'hard just shook his head in bemusement. "This hatching is full of surprises, isn't it?"

His attention flicked to the Queen as she explained the two new colors that had hatched. “A Sub-Queen and a fighter?” A devilish smirk twisted the corner of his mouth when he heard the blood red hatchling was the equivalent of a brown. Surely Derek - D’rek even - would be slightly put off after hearing that news. Since he was boasting to impress something better then both a bronze and a brown.
Eventually his attention was drawn from the new weyrlings and returned to the hatching eggs. First a white tumbled on to the sands and then yet another new colored hatchling appeared. Ryaxth watched eagerly as the white then the blue both found their bonded and Impressed, while the newest hatchling still strutted about the sands. Sighing, Ry ruffled his hair as he eyed both the remaining eggs and the remaining Candidates. Were there going to be any other surprises from the remaining eggs or could both the candidates and the onlookers in the stands expect a smooth hatching from here on out?
It was clear Ryaxth was growing restless now. Slightly agitated that he was continuously being passed over for Impression over and over again, he kicked lightly at the sand beneath his feet. Folding his arms across his chest, Ry spared one more glance at the new Weyrlings and their newly bonded before focusing his attention back at the remaining eggs, struggling to remain patient and composed about the whole matter.

Derek didn't flinch as Loraketh's jaws snapped inches from his face, but he did step back. Cooly listening to the Queen's words, he shrugged. "As you command, Lorketh," he murmured, nodding his head slightly. He didn't really care what the Queen thought, but he figured he may as well be polite so she wouldn't make him leave.
Turning, he glared at R'hard and sneered at Aela. He'd get her back later. She had said he deserved a green?! He'd get her for that. There was no way he was going to Impress a green. No sharding way! He'd make sure-- somehow --that he didn't. He was way better than a stupid green! He'd definitely find some way to get back at Aela. He supposed he was a bit too old to put something slimy in her bed, but still. He'd have his revenge.
Putting his attention back onto the sands, just as the Jumping Yellow green knocked into the Dark Desires egg. His jaw literally dropped at the red hatchling that tumbled from the shell. "Oh, wow!" The red attacked the green, but she was far too fast. Derek knew if he caught that little green, he would kill her. A smile found it's way onto his features.
Another egg started to crack, and the red moved to it, to have a chance at killing the dragonet inside. The green took that chance to run to Hers, and Impression was made to some girl. Derek couldn't remember her name, but he thought it was Aka, or Aikra, or something like that. Nothing worth him remembering.
Derek turned away from the new Impressees, just as the red's talons dug into the blue's hide. Sick delight rose in Derek's chest. Loraketh roared, but the red ignored her until a new hatchling raced over to him. The newcomer must have come from the Gray Dawn egg, though Derek had totally missed the hatching, he was s focused on the red. Unfortunately, this new hatchling made the red stop.
Derek, disappointed, watched the red reach out for a female candidate. Was he Impressing, or about to maul her? Derek would never know, as just then the red's voice echoed in his mind.Well D'rekMine! We are one in the same are we not? Mine and your Emiath. Emiath nuzzled him slightly before bowling him over. Sprawled on the sands, a bit dazed, Derek-- no, D'rek --nearly missed Emiath's next words. See!?! We even both bleed! D'rek didn't have time to ponder that before Emiath sunk his teeth into his arm. The Candidate-- no, Weyrling now! --yelped, and stood up in a hurry. Everything bleeds Mine, isn't it wonderful and enticing? Is not your prey's screams and fear just beautiful music? I want them all to sing for me, the first Garnet, D'rekMine... especially her! D'rek shook his head, still slightly dazed. He was also losing a good amount of blood, the red drops staining the sands a nice crimson. "Okay, how about instead of eating me, we go get some food?" He could have said it in his mind, but he was too shocked. His dragon was... beautiful! This was better than he could have hoped for! Leading Emiath over to the food buckets, he missed the other new color Impressing. When Aela appeared, leading the dark colored female, he glared. Emiath hissed, but D'rek quickly shoved a gobbet of meat into his mouth, which he devoured hungrily. Loraketh's voice echoed in his head. Talath, Aela's dragon, was a Sub-Queen?! D'rek swore. Emiath was like a brown, but it didn't matter. He was unique. He was the only dragon of his kind! "And you're mine!" Hugging the dragonet, D'rek yelped again as the Garnet bit deep into his shoulder. Pulling back, he shoved more meat into the dragon's gaping maw. "Eat that, not me!"
