T’ris sighed as he sat on the ground and listened to his opal dragon complain once again that there was something wrong with him. Widelmath stop! We just left the dragon healers and they all had said that there is nothing wrong with you, and all of your stripes are where they are supposed to be. Even though he really was getting frustrated with the very young opal, his voice was sweet, soft, and full of love for the little male. He loved him with all of his heart, but he couldn’t deny that there were times when he wished there was a way to make him less paranoid. Especially since this wasn’t the first time they had made a trip to the healers just to have them say that there was nothing wrong with the dragon. Well, there was the obvious fact that his legs and neck are longer than the rest of his body.
T’ris looked over his dragon again for the millionth time and had that nagging feeling in the back of his mind that his dragon wouldn’t be a very good flyer. He shook his head, forcing those feelings out of his head. Widelmath crooned curiously at His, he hadn’t really been paying attention to the man’s thoughts so he was a little confused by the whole thing. Don’t worry about it Wid, it’s nothing. That seemed to placate the young opal, at least for the time being. Mine I think I need a bath, my hide looks very dingy…or maybe I really am sick, but the healers can’t find anything because no one else has had it before. M-M-M-Miiiiiiiiiiiiiiine!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Widelmath’s normally shaky and frantic sounding voice, just got louder, and louder the more scared he got. That was the first thing that T’ris would have to work on!

Seeing the boy and his opal seated on the ground, B'den and Kohenkyoth couldn't help stopping their walk to go over to their fellow weyrling and see what was going on. "Is everything alright?" B'den asked with just a hint of skepticism in his voice. He'd noticed that the opal was always kind of twitchy during weyrling lessons, and he got the feeling he was the easily scared type, but then he didn't know the pair of them particularly well. "Anything I can do to help?"
Kohenkyoth crooned to Widelmath reassuringly. Widelmath, brother, are you hurt? It had not escaped her that T'ris and Widelmath had come from the direction of the dragonhealer.

T’ris covered his ears with his hands when he heard Widelmath’s voice. YOU’RE FINE WIDELMATH!!!!! He didn’t mean to scream at his dragon, but it was hard not to when he screamed inside of his head like that. I’m sorry Wid, but you’re fine. You’re just a little dirty is all. There wasn’t much time for the young opal to respond when another weyrling pair showed up. He stood and nodded at the young man he could have sworn was B’den. Yes, everything’s alright, he’s just afraid there is something wrong with him when all he needs is a bath. The young man’s voice was soft, and really tired sounding as he spoke to his fellow weyrling. He loved the little opal, but he couldn’t deny that there were times when all he wanted to do was tie him up and leave him somewhere.
Widelmath jumped when he heard someone talking to him. M-M-Mine and the healers say that I am alright, but do you think my hide looks sick or dirty? His voice wasn’t so panicky any more, but was still very shaky. He was hoping that his sister wouldn’t find anything wrong with him, but what if there was? What if there was something seriously wrong with him and no one knew what it was, or how to heal it? All of these thoughts were freely transmitted to all those around him, and would undoubtedly anger his rider even more. Though, at that moment, he wasn’t really concerned about that, he was more concerned about everything that could be, and might be, wrong with him. The main problem that kept coming to the forefront of his mind, was that his hide was very dingy in color, and something was eating him from the inside out.

B'den shook his head slowly in sympathy. T'ris sounded pretty tired. "He sounds like a handful," he said, casting a glance over the opal's hide. To tell the truth, it was the first time he'd actually seen one of his color up close before.
Kohenkyoth was somewhat less impressed with the opal now that she realized he was not actually hurt, but she looked him over and reassured him all the same. Your hide looks fine to me. It's not even all that dirty. If dragons could roll their eyes, Kohenkyoth would have been. As it was, she was no longer crooning reassurances to the opal. Not normally being a particularly talkative dragon, she was quickly losing interest in her paranoid sibling.
B'den's subtly outstretched foot kept her from taking more than a step away, though. He'd be damned if he let it be said he'd passed by when he could have helped someone. "Hmm, a bath might help him in the short run; do you think it's something he'll grow out of eventually?" he asked T'ris.
