Tiressa walked briskly toward the banks of the river. Briskly, as she knew exactly what it was she had come for. Numbweed.
True, gathering plants was not exactly Tiressa's favorite thing to do, but someone had to, right? And if anyone but a healer went, most likely they'd come back with a leaf from a klah tree instead of numbweed; so Tiressa thought, anyway. So, as no one else had appeared to be getting ready to go gathering, the auburn-haired healer had put on her usual leather boots, taken a basket, and exited the Weyr.
Reaching the river, she paused a moment, resting from her walk, and then began. She glanced up and down the bank she was on. No numbweed immediately obvious. Well, that just meant she'd have to search. Tucking a stray hair behind her ear, Tiressa began, crouching down and running a hand over the ground in search of seedlings.
She stopped as her fingertips tingled for a moment and then went numb. Lifting her hand, she saw a tiny numbweed plant where her fingers had been. Too small to harvest, but where there was a seedling, a full-grown plant couldn't be too far off. She looked around, searching for the telltale sharp leaves that indicated a numbweed plant.
Nothing. The seed must have blown for a while before landing, then. She straightened up to give herself a wider range of sight, then looked around again, brown eyes searching the landscape. There had to be one--Yes, and there it was! A full-grown numbweed plant sat in the ground; a bit far from the water, or she'd have noticed it when she'd scanned the area.
Tiressa walked toward the plant, watching the ground just in front of her feet sharply. It wouldn't do to step on a seedling, after all. When she reached the plant, she crouched down again and began pinching leaves off the stems, ignoring the numbing sensation spreading through her fingers. She dropped a handful of leaves into her basket, then turned back toward the bush and continued plucking the leaves.
