Rayas muttered profanities under his breath. How had he gotten stuck with cleaning up after the runnerbeasts? He sighed and hung his head. At least this is better than cleaning up after the dragons. It was a warm spring day, and he had to admit, the runners smelt better than the dragon latrine did. He tilted his head to the side as he gazed at the remaining stables. He still had at least twelve of them to do, and he had only just begun on this one.
Rayas knew he had to smell terrible, which made his mood even more foul. If only he didn't have to do all this work alone. I hope I never see another runner for the rest of my life! He kept his voice soft, but couldn't help the hiss that emitted from his throat. No wonder why he didn't like the creatures! Oh well, he figured it wasn't their fault that no one cleaned up after them more often. He vowed that if he ever did impress, he would never EVER enter these stables again!
(((OOC: Sorry it's so short, I'll do better my next post I promise!!!!)))

Azeal for one didn't mind working in the stables. He enjoyed runners, and it was more fun anyway when you had a friend. The candidate looked over at Leotie as she moved to haul some hay to a feed bucket. "Let me get that." Azeal ran quickly to grab the already tipping load, receiving a warm and grateful smile from his weyrbrat friend. "I thought that it'd fall. Thanks Azzie." Leotie's dark brown eyes lit up as she spoke to the boy, happy for once. Good, was Azeal's only thought. Since her mother had passed in the Great Storm, Leotie had rarely smiled unless around him. To the candidate, she was like a younger sister.
They finished the stall they were in before heading out, Symphony chirping as he went to curl himself around Leotie's neck. The white looked over at Azeal's own flit Belle, watching her flutter around behind Hers. The Lazuli was a stormy grayish silver, blue blur it seemed, for once using her wings to move herself instead of relying on Azeal to do all the work for her. It was around this time that they heard another person in the stables with them. The candidate froze instantly, pulling Leotie back with him. "What are you doing Azzie?" She widened her eyes at him, curious. Her sudden spur of emotions called her other two firelizards to her as well, the brown and green trilling as they came from between.
Shaking Azeal off, Leotie walked forward until she saw another boy. "Hi there." Her hand moved up to wave hello, the other motioning for Azeal to join her. He did so reluctantly, sighing and moving up with her. He normally wasn't that bad with people, though he preferred to be with ones he knew already. The candidate had just gotten more cautious with the new candidates around. You never really knew someone after all until you finally got to be around them for a while. Azeal just wasn't willing to give anyone that chance right now.

Rayas paused in his rantings when he heard something that sounded like a firelizard's trill. He stepped out of the stall he was currently working in, and was surprised to see two little kids and their firelizards. Oh, I hadn't thought anyone else was here. I am sorry if I have disturbed you two. He dipped his head in apologies as he spoke to them. He wasn't sure who they were, but he was almost positive that he hadn't seen either one of them before.
Rayas looked each one of them over in turn, but still couldn't see anything that made him recognized either of them. Oh well, at least I'm not alone anymore. That was one thing that was quite welcome, company. He had felt so alone since he had moved into the Weyr after his father had become Weyrleader. So far the one person he had spoken with, that hadn't been harsh, was the Junior Weyrwoman, Iirla. That had been a pleasant conversation, and he wondered if he would see her again.
Rayas mentally shook himself, and forced himself back into the present. He still didn't know who these kids were, or what they were doing in the stinkiest part of the runner stables. My name is Rayas, I'm a new candidate here, may I ask who the two of you are? His voice was pleasant, and his sweet smile spread from ear to ear as he spoke. Everything about how he looked, besides the dirt and grim from the stables, was relaxed and very kind.

Azeal still was skeptical about the boy, but he forced himself to relax anyway. "It's alright, there are always people about." He gave a weak smile as he looked over at Leotie. She had taken another step near to the boy-Rayas as he now named himself-and she didn't look like she was going back any time soon. "I'm Azeal...that's Leotie." He pointed to the younger girl who tilted her head. "You're not from here." She blinked dark brown eyes as she pushed some curly dark hair behind her ear.
"As he said, I'm Leotie...I'm not a candidate though. I'm only 8." She smiled warmly at Rayas as she spoke, trying hard to make up for Azeal's lack of trust. The healer apprentice finally took a step forward though and sighed. "I'm a candidate too....I guess you can't be that bad if the dragons like you." He held out a hand tentatively to shake Rayas' if he met it. "This is Belle by the way." He pointed his head in the direction to the Lazuli that was circling over his and Leotie's bodies. She chirped as her name was mentioned.

Rayas looked from the boy to the girl, and wondered what they had been doing in the stables all alone. It’s a pleasure to meet the both of you. He dipped his head to the two of them, and chuckled when he heard the girl called Leotie’s words. You are right, I’m not from here. he wasn’t sure if he should tell them where he really was from or not, but he was afraid of what they might think of him if they knew he was from Southern. Yes, the Weyrleader’s son was afraid of what two little kids thought of him.
Rayas smiled sweetly, and shook Azeal’s hand. She is a beautiful firelizard. You must like having her company huh? He smiled sweetly as he watched the strange flit circling over the two children’s heads. He had never had a firelizard, and thought it must be nice to have one, but then he remembered the work it must take to take care of one until it was old enough to take care of itself. He didn’t have the time for one, after all, he had to focus on doing everything possible to give himself a better chance at impressing a dragon.
