Aela sat in the Weyrling Barracks. Talath was getting pretty big and she could not wait until their graduation ceremony... whenever that was. Aela smiled at the Obsidian who was dozing in the warm air. I am glad you are my Dragon Talath. I look at your beauty and realize how lucky I am to have you.
Talath opened one eye and they showed the color of happiness before the eye closed again. Talath did not talk much. She preferred to watch rather than talk.
Aela smiled and sat back against her Dragon. Already they were almost halfway through their training. Talath was getting very big and at about a Turn they would graduate. Excitement coursed through Aela at the thought. She would then be able to fly through the air with Talath!
Thoughts of warmth and happiness poured into Aela as Talath read her. A smile played on her lips. It was remarkable that Aela had the Obsidian Sub-Queen. The first Obsidian at that! At least for Trelis Weyr. I really am lucky to have you my sweet Talath. We are perfectly matched.
Glad you think so. I would have only chosen the best. Talath responded before she stopped.
Aela smiled again and gently stroked the Obsidian's skin. It was not overly soft, but Aela had oiled her the day before and knew that Talath was healthy and fit. Soon they would be able to do much more together. If you have your Maiden Flight I hope that Emiath doesn't become your mate. I wouldn't want R'hard to be my mate the first time as I think some people know I like him, but most definitely not Emiath and D'rek.
I have no control over who wins or loses. If Emiath wins then Emiath wins. I cannot pick and choose beforehand who is to be my mate or not. Talath responded with a mental frown. You should know better than to mention that.
Aela sighed, I know. And I'm sorry. With that she fell silent.
