It had only been two days since Kohenkyoth had found him on the Hatching Sands, but already it seemed like B'den had never lived without her. The green was sleeping at the moment, as she did practically all the time still when she wasn't either eating or being oiled, but this was the first time B'den didn't feel exhausted enough to collapse into his own bed immediately as well, and he took the extra time to compose a letter to his father to inform him of what had happened. He did so in one of the record rooms, as the Weyrling barrack assigned to them was somewhat crowded and never as empty as B'den was used to. This room was quiet, and much more comfortable of a writing space.
Doubtless his father would probably receive word of Trelis's hatching long before B'den's letter managed to reach him, but the least B'den could do was explain it in his own words. B'den grinned wryly. He just wished he could see the look on the old man's face when he realized his son had finally done what he had threatened for a year and become one of the dragonriders he so despised. The differences between father and son had never seemed greater.
B'den was even in a good enough mood to hum a bit under his breath as he finished the letter and folded it into a pocket for safe-keeping. He'd hand it off to someone else for delivery tomorrow. He stood up and had barely taken a step before he backed up and inadvertently collided with another person. "Oh! I'm terribly sorry about that," he said, putting a charming smile on as he turned to see who he had run into.
