Even though she has spent her whole life in the weyr, she has come to know dragons. Not Whers. All she really knows about them is that they are related to dragons and they do not like daylight. Sari is disappointed that she does not know more and quite surprised as well.
Since the bloody dragon hatching, Sari had taken notice of the night creatures with renewed respect and curiosity. She wants to learn more about them for she has a plan...or perhaps it is merely a new-found dream.
Sari's eyes try to adjust to the dim interior of the Wherhold's dininghall as she comes in and begins to look around. It is about the time when the handlers are up and about for their 'days' activities. Perhaps, she thinks, someone can direct her to wherever Yuli might be. For she has many questions that she can not sleep one more night without knowing.
With brows furrowed and an obvious lost look upon her face, Sari stands there and looks around, wondering who might be able to help her.

Yayusk was pacing the hallways outside Yuli's office. She was making records of the attendance and participation of the wherling class before going about her duties for the night, which today was simply bathing and feeding Yayusk, so there was no hurry. yayusk rumbled lightly as he heard noise from down the hall and moved to investigate. The girl he found looked horribly lost. Yuli, Yayusk see girl. What do?[/i][/color] He chirped, sending his handler a mental image of what he was seeing.
After a moment of the wher staring at the girl, he finally chirped at her and passed on a message. Girl lost? Yayusk's Yuli help! Follow, follow. The brown turned and waddled down the corridor before finally turning into an office. Yayulia turned as the brown entered and waited for the girl as well.

Not finding anyone she wanted to ask, Sari wandered down the most likely hallways, having hoped to find the proper office. Why she felt she could find anything in this unfamiliar maze was a mystery. Perhaps it was her stubborn streak. She had grown up determined to rely upon no one but herself. She could do anything anyone else could. Aparantly that included the ability to get lost.
Having sighed with frustration, Sari had been about to turn around and retrace her steps when a large wher, a brown came into her view. She froze and had watched as he seemed to just stare.
A soft smile had grown upon her lips despite the furrowed brows on her forehead, a clear result of her still being lost and quite confused on which way to go next. The brown wher's voice had entered her head then and her smile had grown with delight.
Not knowing how she ought to have answered the Wher, she kept her silence and had bowed her head instead and followed when he moved off. Coming finally into an office Sari had stopped and looked around. Seeing a person there, she bowed again and hoped she had not disturbed the peace. "I'm sorry to interrupt." Sari had spoken clearly. "I am looking for Yuli. I have questions to ask."

Yayusk chittered to himself happily at a job well done and was quick to snatch a treat tossed at him by his handler. Pleased with himself, the brown rumbled and looked at the girl curiously, wanting to know what it was that brought her into what he deemed as his territory.
"Yayusk, you still have work to do. Go. Patrol." She kept the verbal instruction simple and added a mental nudge to send him along, which he did grudgingly. She waited as he sulked off to continue his duty before finally addressing the girl. "Sorry for keeping you waiting. I am Yuli. What might your name be?" She rose from where she stood to fetch a second mug of klah for the girl from the large skin she had prepared for nights in the office. Offering it to Sri, and motioning for the girl to take a seat, Yuli sipped at her own drink before smiling at Sari, though the smile was lopsided and bit unnerving to many people at first; the scarred side of her face made the motion of smiling a bit difficult.
"I assume you sought me out to ask about whers. I will do what I can to answer." She motioned for the girl to begin asking.

Taking the mug of klah, Sari took a seat and smiled back, wondering as she did so what might have caused the scarring to the woman's face. Taking a sip of her drink to give her time to collect her thoughts, Sari stalled even further by thanking Yuli for the klah.
When all formalities had been attended to, and her thoughts organized, Sari opened her mouth and the questions just flowed. She wanted to know all about the marvelous creatures called whers.
At the end of her many questions about the creatures she asked one more, "And can someone who stands for dragons also have a chance to stand for whers? I have lived in the weyr all my life and find it shocking that I haven't truly noticed them until now. They are wonderous. And your brown, what's his name? He is so polite and helpful too. I don't think I would have found you without him.

Yuli waited patiently for the girl to get settled, figuring it was probably nerves keeping her from jumping right in. Taking time to think things through was a valuabe skill for anyone considering working alongside a draconic, which she was hoping this Sari girl was here to talk about.
She smiled as the first question was asked, and answered as best she could without going over the top. The other questions were answered as they came, with each one Yuli hoped she was giving the girl exactly what she wanted. One of the final questions made her heart drop for a moment. Wanting to stand for both?
"Of course, Sari. We call them dual candidates. They aren't too common, as dual candidates are expected to keep up with the tasks assigned for both the dragon AND wher candidates. It's twice the workload, half the sleep and it can be quite difficult to anyone who can't work under that type of stress. The reward, of course, is a higher chance at impressing something. Sadly, dual candidates often end up leaving the whers behind in hopes of a dragon." She paused to sip at her klah, "We are the watchers of the night, the guards who keep the weyrfolk safe while they sleep. it comes as no shock we aren't horribly well known, but the life of a wherhandler is not one of glory and praise. We do our duty and take great pride in knowing we can keep our friends and family safe." Her smile softened at the compliment to her brown.
"Thank you," She grinned her lopsided grin, "He wasn't always like that though. Whers aren't as easy to train as dragons are, but with time, dedication and effort, you can train a wher to be anything you need it to be." She passed the praise on to Yayusk through their bond, and chuckled as the brown sent back a happy feeling. "He's happy to have been such a help to you."
