Iona growled menacingly as she slowly made her way to the place she had seen so many of the Large Ones lay their eggs. She had also heard Hers call it the, Hatching Sands. If it was good enough for those large creatures, then it was good enough for her! She was gliding awkwardly when she finally reached the place she had been looking for. Though, most of the sands were taken up by a Large One and it's eggs, and it didn't seem like there would be much room left. Iona hissed loudly and walked around to the back side of the sands. She didn't want that Large One anywhere near her precious eggs. when she was satisfied that she was far enough away from the Large One, she started to dig a shallow hole so she could lay her eggs, and keep them safe. Once she had finished digging, it was time for her to clutch. Something she was looking forward to, yet still afraid of. This was her first clutch, and she was doing her best to be brave. Iona finally laid down, curled up tightly around her eleven eggs. She crooned a soft song to her eggs as she proudly looked at each one of them. After nuzzling each one into place where she wanted it, she looked around her. it was still very early in the morning, and Hers was likely to still be asleep. Oh well, she would have to tell him of her great clutch later, for now she was devoted to keeping her family safe from any harm, even the Large One that she now shared the sands with. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Iona's Eggs 1. The Eternal Rose Egg - Zirin's Egg This is the largest egg of the clutch, and is fiercely guarded by it's golden mother. 2. Elegant Lightning Egg - Jilli's Egg This is the second largest of the clutch, and sits right next to Iona's front legs, and like all the other eggs of the clutch, is hidden by her golden wings. 3. Mystic Forest Egg - Zero's Egg This large egg is right next to the Elegant Lightning egg, and looks as though it is protecting it's larger clutch mate. 4. Fantasy Flier Egg This egg is sitting near the edge of the clutch, and can barely be seen peeking out from under Iona's wing. 5. Shimmering River Egg This egg is tucked right up tight against it's mother's side. 6. Rushing River Egg This egg is laying gently against the Shimmering river egg, and looks like it is sleeping. 7. Rejuvenating Rain Egg - Phantom's Egg This small egg right on the outside of the clutch, and is the only egg besides the Eternal Rose Egg that can be seen. 8. Shifting Shadows Egg - Zara's Egg This egg is laying on it's side in the middle of the clutch, and seems as though it is looking up at it's mother's wing. 9. Quiet Tomb Egg This little egg is near the back of the clutch, and the closest one to Iona's back leg. 10. Gentle Breeze Egg This is the second smallest egg of the clutch, and is next to the Quiet Tomb Egg, and right against it's mother's side. 11. Shivering Glass Egg This is the smallest egg of the clutch, and is near the middle, but has been pushed to the side a little so that the Shifting Shadow's Egg could have enough room to lay down. (Ooc: This is from Lark, I added in your name next to an egg if you won one through the Halloween prizes or a raffle lately. Some people had been given multiple eggs in the Halloween raffles, so I chose out of the colors the were to receive. This way there are plenty extras for new members, or members that were not here during the Halloween event.)

What was one of those things doing on her sands?!?
Loraketh watched the little gold firelizard flit across the sands. She wasn't..she couldn't...oh, she did. The WeyrQueen huffed, flaring her wings before closing them again. Nudging her own eggs slightly closer to her by wrapping her tail around them, even the one she had pushed away before, Loraketh eyed the flit with a careful scrutiny. Just what do you think you're doing? She thought about sending her away for a moment, but something about Iona made Loraketh like her.
The flit had courage coming to the sands. The dragoness tilted her head to get a better look at the curled up firelizard. Fine stay....you've already clutched anyhow. I will not make you move. Just stay away from my eggs, unless you want to help oil my hide sometime. The Queen snapped her tail against the sand, sending some flying into the air. She might have been showing Iona who was in charge here, but the Queen knew that if the flit's clutch was disturbed, she would be there to defend it as well. A Queen was a Queen, even if she was only a firelizard.

It was pure happenstance that Aridani was making her way to the hatching sands on this day. She had been tossing ideas around in her head, trying to pick the topic of her next song. She wanted something happier, something more exciting; her music had been filled with too much sorrow lately and it was starting to get to her. So, after hours spent without reaching a decision, she had finally found a potential topic. THe beautiful golden queen Loraketh had her clutch on the sands! Maybe her next piece should be about a hatching! There was ismply so much raw emotion involved in those. Though... the candidates felt it strongest, and as a mute candidacy had been a little out of her reach.
Aridani wasn't too sad about it; she had her music, and she was happy with her place in life over all, even if she had lost family and friends in the storm. She sighed silently and peeked into the hatching sands. THe queen was there, as always, and Ari bowed deeply, hoping Loraketh wouldn't mind her coming into the stands; she had no way to ask. With head kept low, she sidestepped quietly into the stands to sit. Her plan was to see if she could get any inspiration from the hardened eggs; a preliminary feeling for which to base the beginning of her song. Maybe a crescendo, oh and a faster pace as the eggs began rocking; drums could emulate the rocking of the shells! She would need strings for sure. A bass would be good for the sound of dragon hum wouldn't it?! Oh but what to use for the fire lizards?
It was then she noticed that the gold dragon was not the only sand-bound creature this day; a fire lizard was also here with a clutch it seemed! She dipped her head to Iona as well, her eyes holding a look of longing as she spied some of the eggs peaking out from beneath the small creature. Ah, but she would never have one would she? No way to ask the owner for an egg, or properly buy one from a stall; others always asked for them first.

Iona hissed loudly when she heard the Large One's voice. How dare she speak to her and drag her attention away from her eggs! This gold queen wasn't about to let anything drag her away from her eggs. She grumbled to herself and curled more tightly around her eleven eggs. She did feel a little better to have the Large One's company, at least she would have some help if her clutch was ever disturbed. She purred and nudged her eggs around once again.
Iona also knew that she would try to help the Large One if she needed it, but that she highly doubted, after all, she wasn't even half the size of the other gold. But you never know when something as small as her could become a very dangerous weapon. She was finally content with the way she had her eggs in the places she wanted them, which meant that half of her job was over for the time being. Oh well, she was going to enjoy the brake this gave her.
D'tri groaned and buried his head in his pillows. He didn't want to be awake just yet. But he knew that his topaz dragon wasn't going to let him go back to sleep until he got up, and figured out what was going on. Alright Chaha what is it? He glared at her over the pillow he had been using to cover his face with. Chahaturth snorted at him and then turned her attention back to whatever it was she had been staring at, which only made the young man even more frustrated.
You should go see her D'tri. Chahaturth's clear voice sounded a lot more awake then the large dragoness looked. She was laying down with her head nestled comfortably upon her fore-paws, with her tail wrapped around her topaz body. D'tri sighed and sat up, there was only one creature that Chahaturth would be telling him to go see. He kept a running rant in his mind, which he knew would eventually anger his dragon, though, at that point in time he didn't care.
After D'tri finished getting dressed, he headed out to find his firelizard. He tried to call to her through their mental link, but all he got was a picture of the sands where Loraketh was guarding her clutch. I guess that is supposed to answer my question. He knew he was talking to himself, but it made him feel a little less lonely. Though, it also probably made him look crazy as well. That's something he wasn't looking forward to hearing about.
D'tri finally reached the sands, he looked around for anything that reminded him of the picture he had received from his firelizard. That's when he saw the person up in the sands. I wonder if she'll be able to point me in the right direction. With that thought he bowed respectfully to Loraketh, and started for the stands. It didn't really take him long to reach the girl, but he made sure he let her know that he was there.
Hey, you wouldn't have seen a gold firelizard around here somewhere would you? D'tri asked the girl softly, his voice full of hope. If this girl couldn't point him in the right direction, then he would have to go ask Loraketh. That was something he really didn't want to have to do. To tell the truth, he was sort of afraid the large dragoness, and asking for directions to another gold with a clutch of eggs didn't seem like a very smart idea.

Aridani jumped at the sound of a voice behind her. She had been so intent on watching the two queens and their clutches that she hadn’t been paying attention to her surroundings at all. She likely would have squeaked had she been able to make noise, but instead her eyes merely opened wide in shock. She is down there! Ari wanted to say, but once again she was brutally reminded of how unable she was to communicate. She lifted an arm and pointed sheepishly off to where Iona had clutched.
She wondered once again if having a marvelous little fire lizard of her own would make communicating any easier. A sad look crept across her face.

D'tri felt bad for making the poor girl jump. He hadn't meant to startle her. He turned and looked where she pointed, and wondered why she hadn't said anything. Thank you so much, if you would like I'm sure she wouldn't mind you getting a closer look. Oh, I'm D'tri by the way. He smiled sweetly as he introduced himself, and offered to get her closer to Iona's clutch of eggs. He turned and looked down at his firelizard again, and wondered how many eggs she was hiding.
Iona sighed happily as she looked over her clutch of eggs once again. There were eleven of them total, but the one that she had placed between her front legs was special, of that there was no doubt in her mind. She didn't know why, but her instincts told her that much. She gently sniffed at the eggs that were closer to the outside of the clutch, and was over-joyed at how wonderfully she had done. Now if only she knew of a way to make everyone else see her beautiful work.

Her face lit up with joy as D'tri offered to let her get closer and she dipped her head in greeting. Obviously the beautiful gold belonged to him, and she only wished she had some way to tell him her own name in response. This had always been the hard part for her, trying to introduce herself without words. Aridani nodded, smiling happily in an attempt to show him she would love to have a closer look. A hand then shot up to her throat, gesturing in a way she hoped would portray her inability to speak.
It had been a while since she had 'spoken' to anyone at the Weyr; she tended to stay of on her own most days, practicing in the music rooms, but there had been a few days prior when she had met a local harper. That was it! She reached into the pouch where she kept her pipes and pulled up a scrap of hide on which she had written her name for the other harper. She held it out to him nervously, hoping he would understand that it was her name.

D'tri's smiled broadened when he saw her face light up. At least I can make someone happy. He could feel Chahaturth's exasperated snort through their bond, and couldn't help but chuckling. Sorry, I'm not laughing at you. I was laughing at my dragon. If you would like maybe she would let you meet her some time. He shrugged his shoulders nonchalantly as he spoke. He hoped he wasn't overstepping any boundaries, but with which female was another story.
D'ri looked at her curiously when her hand shot to her throat. He wasn't exactly sure what that was supposed to mean, but then she grabbed something out of her pouch, and held it out to him. He took the piece of hide, and read what was on it. Oh so your name is Aridani huh? Cool, I guess that means you can't talk can you? He felt bad for her, and wondered if there was a way he could make things a little easier for her, but nothing came to mind.
Oh, that's right! You wanted to see Iona and her eggs! Come on let's go. D'tri's happy smile returned to his face. He hopped that he hadn't upset her by what he said, but he wasn't about to ask either. Instead he turned around and started walking down the steps to take Aridani to see his firelizard's eggs. He was still trying to figure out a way to help the poor girl as he did so, but still, nothing came to mind. He bit his tongue as he tried to concentrate.
