Her long black hair was braided down her back, as usual, falling down to her waist. She had quite a bit of hair. She didn't even trim it that often. She turned dark brown eyes on the Weyr around her. She supposed she could have gone other places, but as a new Candidate... She wanted to explore a little bit, but she wasn't entirely sure where to start. She supposed it'd be just as good an idea as any to start walking. After all, to explore, you really didn't need to know where you were going. You just needed to go and deal with things as they came. It was the spirit of adventure.
Of course, she wasn't feeling entirely well today, which simply meant she would have to turn in earlier. she could only spend so much time wandering around, even with the heat of the day. She coughed slightly into her hand, but she was not so sick that she couldn't wander around for awhile. She hated that she got sick at all. Her cheeks were flushed, which would have looked nice against her dark skin except that it didn't look entirely natural since it was due to the fact she was ill. She was determined, however, that she would not be sick during a Hatching. She couldn't be. She didn't think she would.
She wiped stray hairs from her forehead and headed for some shade. Shade would be nice right now. She squinted her eyes, looking at the people around her with dragons and flitters. She somewhat envied them right now. She would have loved to have a flitter and she was anxious about the next Hatching. She had missed the last one by a couple of days, which was a little disappointing, but there was always the next one, which would hopefully be happening soon.
As for flitter hatchings, she had heard that there was one in the near future and that was exciting as well. she had also heard that the Junior Queen would be flying soon and if she was flying soon, that meant there would soon be another clutch. Hopefully she would be lucky enough to Impress at that Hatching. She shook her head slightly and smiled, looking for any friendly faces.

Sakalas took a bite out of the meatroll and practically purred in happiness. The 14 turn old candidate had just finished with her chores and this was her prize. Korah chirped from her shoulder, the lunar huntyre cocking his head as he sent a picture of himself having a bite. Laughing, Saka nodded her head and handed the bird a piece. "So, what to do now?" The candidate took another bite and put a hand on her hip no doubt leaving a smudge of meat juice. Oh well!
She hadn't been here long at all, and in fact had just gotten here in time for the Gathering to start being set up. Already there were people flocking to Trelis from all over Pern. Which of course made Saka extremely happy and curious about all the newcomers. The girl kept walking throught the surrounding fields and forests, she had decided to take the long way around the Weyr instead of through it, to get to the Weyr Bowl. As usual she was a messed up sight to see, and she laughed at how the search rider had acted when he saw her.
As per usual her hair was down and frizzy, red curls blowing wildly in the wind, beaded and braided with feathers from her bird. She had a bright blue tunic on today, though her pants were the crazy thing about her really. She had not only taken two pairs and put together a leg from each, but had also patched them up over the years with different fabrics. So in otherwords, she was as A'dos had said when he first found her, a mess. She loved it though, it was just who she was. Picking at a feather in her hair, she had finished the meatroll by this time, Saka's light champagne colored eyes caught onto another girl's movements.
"Hi there! I don't think we've met. Probably not, I doubt it......I'm Saka, new here. Are you too? I bet you are, you seem a little lost...or maybe that's just me. This is Takorah, he's my bird, a lunar huntyre if you're not familiar with them. Don't worry that gold and red color to his eyes means he's happy. They're often backwards from dragons and other bondeds on Pern. I like that. Of course that's not why I have him. I'm a trader, my entire family is....well I'm not one anymore...or am I? Oh well, time to figure that out later right? Anyway, my family breeds and raises birds to teach them to be hunting companions. Huntyres mostly, but other birds too sometimes. Are you from one of the holds? I think I've seen you at one of the holds on our trips around The Island. Oh I'm Saka by the way...oh wait I think I already said that. Hi!"

Iirla was taken aback by the girl for a moment. Oh my. She just had to be handful. That was all there was to it. "Um... You talk a lot very quickly, ya'know... but I'll do my best to remember all of what you just said..." She smiled warmly, teasing the girl, though it was true, or what she imagined to be true. "It is good to meet you Saka and your Huntyre Takorah. As for being a trader, you're a Candidate now, so I don't think you could still be counted as a trader anymore, but I may be wrong. And it's really cool that you guys raised Huntyres and birds... And I feel like I'm forgetting something. Oh, yes, my name is Iirla Hallivan and you may have... I'm from Apolla Hold. It is good to meet you."
Iirla took a deep breath. Had she covered it all? she did a mental check. She thought so, but, then again, one could never really be certain, though, what with all the girl had said. "And, oh... I really haven't been here long at all. Just a day or so."
Iirla brushed her black hair from her face again and smiled. The way she stood, you could tel she was a generally confident and competent person. She looked at the bird. That was different. She rather liked the look of the bird. He was rather pretty. She, however, preferred flitters and hoped she would attach one at some point...

Saka nodded her head as the girl answered her questions. She didn't think it odd to ask so many, after all wasn't it just better to get those awkward introductions over with? Smiling at the other candidate, Saka pet 'Korah's head. The huntyre flapped open his wings in return and cawed softly, the sound ringing out though more than he originally intended. "I haven't been here long either. Just got here a few days ago. Did I already say that? I'm sorry if I did." Smiling again, the girl sat down on the grass and started to flip her feet up and down. It was fun!
'Korah watched as His played with her talons, they weren't like his talons of course, but it was interesting. Crooning, the lunar hopped/walked to the girl's feet and nipped lightly at her shoes. "Hey, no bad bird!" Grabbing the huntyre up into her arms, Saka waved a finger in his face while making a face similar to a child pouting. It probably was an amusing site, though it could also have been just boring or anything else really. Looking back up at Iirla, Saka blew a feather out of her eyes. "So what are you hoping to get?"

"Don't apologize," she said, smiling. SHe watched the girl sit and thought about perhaps doing the same... And, after a minute, she did. She sat carefully and covered her mouth as she started to cough, started out as a small, slight cough, which soon became more of a coughing fit. She kept her mouth covered until it had passed. "So sorry about that." She mumbled it gently. Her throat kind of hurt for the moment. It wasn't exactly pleasant. It was, however, a fact of life.
Iirla couldn't help but laugh. Korah was something else, that was for sure, and the girls reaction made her laugh yet again, which lead to another cough, though it wasn't a fit of coughing, this time. "He certainly is something else," she said, clearing her throat.
Iirla thought about it for a long moment. What was she hoping to get? Well... She would like to Impress a female dragon... A clutching dragon would be nice... But... Anything really. Green, Blue... Though, of those, she would probably prefer a Green. Then again... The new colors were interesting too. She wondered if there would be any more new colors in the next Hatching. She really didn't know much about them, they were just kind of cool.
"Well... I think I would be happy with most anything in the end, though.... I do have a few preferences, I suppose... What about you?"
