It was midnight, or somewhere around there, the Queen wasn't sure. She only new that something she had only experienced once was about to happen. Oh yes, it was her time again, but this time she would be laying her eggs instead of fathering them. Loraketh was a shadow, dulled slightly from lack of food lately. The Queen had been too bothered or upset to eat either because of the dragons or riders in the Weyr. Things were not all well, and she was a flit-length away from banishing those Southern riders and beasts from her home. There was business to deal with first.
The dragoness didn't even bother to wake Hers, the Weyrwoman had other things to deal with and needed her sleep. So, Loraketh went alone. The night air was a sweet, tender thing against her hide as she flew out; caressing her as she twisted in its embrace. A pang in her side made her hiss in frustration. Right, eggs on the sands first. Falling more and more into a trance-like state, the Gold backwinged into the Hatching Sands and settled onto the middle of the sand.
She would start here, and there she waited a good half a mark till the first of the eggs was laid. The Queen crooned lovingly at it, nudging the little shell gently. It was a pale pink color with a star-like pattern of white on one side. Before Loraketh could pay the egg anymore mind though, another one was soon to follow it. This one wasn't too much bigger, and it was a black egg with sapphire blue markings in an odd eye-like shape. She tilted her head and rolled it gently closer to the first egg before heading a few paces away and laying two more.
These were larger, and she crooned as she licked one's shell. It was a dark brownish red color with orange markings like a sun poking over a mountain. Flicking her wings, she nudged the other egg closer, this one a dark red egg with purple circles that connected through a bar. She hissed slightly then crooned, not quite sure what to think of it. Already her eggs had developed slight personalities. She had put off this clutching as long as she could, not sure if her eggs were safe. As such, they were a bit further along then they normally would be.
The next egg was more painful to have, and she hissed at the large egg as it dropped to the sands. It wasn't normal! There was something off about it, and she whipped her tail behind her. A mother loved her children though, and she whined softly before nudging it further from its siblings. She'd keep an eye on that one. More followed, and she continued to put them in a circle until she laid the final two. They were the largest of the clutch, even larger than the one she had placed away from the rest of her clutch.
One was a golden color, yet not shining like a Queen would be. A dull orange sun looking markings was shadowed across its shell. She tilted her head and looked at it, then at the dark purple egg that was slightly larger that had a garnet heart shaped marking. Moving the darker egg off into the clutch, she set the golden, orange egg between her feet. There was a special one in this clutch, not a Queen perhaps, but like her previous daughters. I will protect you my love. Of this, Loraketh was certain.
Reaching out into the darkness that was slowly turning to a hazy gray morning, the WeyrQueen cried out for Hers. LiliMine, it is done.
At first Inali didn't quite understand what her dragoness was meaning by it was done. She had awoken a few moments before, something having tugged her awake slowly. Inali felt...lighter somehow, as if some weight had been lifted from her. She breathed easier and looked over at the crib where the twins were sleeping, then back at her bed where she smiled at T'rian's bed-messed hair. "Wake up my dear weyrmate...she's laid her eggs. I have a feeling we'll be dealing with fuss today." She pulled her black hair back into a braid and pulled on a pair of riding pants and a cream blouse, lacing up boots on her way out.
Ghost looked cautiously at the crib where the demon-child lay sleeping hopefully. Hers little one, the older of the two, had messed with her too many times for her comfort. Hissing, completely unlike the normally silent green, she flared her wings and tucked in against Inali's neck. Pepper cawed happily as she followed Hers, but not before landing on the crib and chirping. Ghost screeched. No they were not taking those things! "Inoria, Talian, would you like to see a clutch?" Inoria gurgled happily, smirking a baby's smile at the mad Green firelizard.
