She sighed, a soundless motion that nonetheless helped her display her feeling a tiny bit. There was so much on her mind, so many things from the past while hanging heavy in her thoughts. She had lost many things; her friends, her home. Now she was here at Trelis. She stared down at the page in front of her, for once drawing a blank on how to begin writing as he mind fought to select a topic to start with. She closed her eyes and shifted through the thoughts, trying to figure out which struck her strongest at the moment.
Her son was the first to come to mind. She could write a song on the happiness she had when she saw him and the fear and despair she had felt before finding him at Mathon. No... those feelings were too mismatched for one song. The second set of feelings would do better with the other sounds of the storm. The anger and ferocity of the storm, the fear and pain of being trapped in it, and the sorrow and despair as everyone looked for lost ones… not to mention the pure feeling that came from a dragon’s keen. Would she be able to reproduce that sound?
She drew her pipes from the pouch at her waste and did a few warm-up notes before standing and attempting to make a keening sound. No... too high, now too low. Not enough vibrato in that one. Before long, she had moved on from the sound, deciding she would figure out a solution later, on another instrument perhaps. Now, though… now she needed to play. The notes flowed softly at first as she played out the first melody to come to mind; they were sad and lonely, wavering in the otherwise quiet room as she ‘sang’ of her loneliness and insecurity in this new home.
The song picked up volume as she began to slowly dance around the room, her movements mirroring the sorrow of the song, and for the first time since coming to Trelis, she truly played her heart out.
