Kahool was once one of the greatest Weyrs Pern had. There were two Weyrs altogether, Kahool was the largest most organized, and Misaria was known for it's large library, and great stores of knowledge. Two-hundred turns had passed in relative peace after the last Threadfall. People thought that Thread would never fall again, and the amount of riders and dragons slowly decreased till there was just a few of each color left in each weyr.
Soon, the only weyr that had any dragons left was Kahool. With the only gold left, the fate of the Weyrs seemed dependent on Talith's flight. It seemed like the old queen would never rise again, but after three turns of everyone hoping and praying, Talith finally rose. Her flight was the greatest of all the flights in the past two-hundred turns, not that there were many flights in that time. The clutch that Talith had was huge in the fact that it had thirty eggs, and most of them were pretty strange in size and color. Candidates were brought to Kahool from every hold, and all of the other Weyrs as well.
Candidates were still being brought to Kahool the day Talith's clutch hatched. Thankfully they had finally found enough people to stand for the hatching that, hopefully, none of the dragonets would between. The first to hatch was a large brown. The next one to hatch was a little green, then two little blues hatched at the same time, kinda like twins. A brown hatched next, the hatching went pretty much just like that until the last eight eggs hatched. The first of which was a strange orangish-yellow in color, then another one hatched, this one was probably the strangest of them all. It being purple in color, and it seemed to be more dominant than the yellowish one.
Finally there were only two more eggs still left on the Sands. The smaller of the two eggs, was actually the second largest of all the eggs that had been on the Sands. It had strange white, almost crystalline, markings all over the egg. When it finally hatched a strange, white dragon came out of it. The dragonet was large, even larger than the bronze that had hatched before it. It was as white as it could be. It was aptly named the Crystal Dragon. The last egg, the largest egg, was a deep red in color, with a kind of lighter red marking at the top that makes the egg look like it's bleeding. The hatchling that came from the egg was much, much larger than any gold that had ever been hatched. it was a deep, dark red, almost blood red in color, and it impressed the youngest candidate there.
These new colors have proven themselves to be more unique than when Kitty Ping had first created the dragons. The smaller colors can breath fire without ever chewing firestone, yet the larger colors still have to chew firestone. Though, the Garnets, just like the old queens, are not allowed to chew for fear of what would happen to their clutching abilities. The newly hatched dragons had just enough time to grew into fully developed dragons when Thread finally fell once more. No one was sure why it had started falling again all of a sudden, but many felt it was because of these new dragons. Many Holders felt that these new dragons should be sent away, and that maybe Thread would follow them.
So they sent the Garnets, Gypsums, Amethysts, and Topazes to Gureal Weyr in hope that the abandoned Weyr would take the brunt of Threadfall. Yet the same Holders that had wanted the dragons to leave were the ones who were trying to bring back when Thread started to fall worse than it ever had before. They finally realized that these new colors were needed to, not only help replenish the dragons, but defeat Thread. Especially since this new Thread seems to have actually grown some sort of intelligence. This new Thread is a strange, ugly, puke green in color. It falls thickest in places where there are more people, so Kahool's current challenge is to breed enough dragons to keep everyone safe.
Now, eighty turns after the first appearance of these new colors, and the return of Thread, Kahool is no longer the only working Weyr. The current Queen of Kahool, a large Garnet, has a clutch warming on the sands, and soon another garnet queen will rise in Misaria Weyr. No one knows when Thread will fall next, or if it will ever fall again. But one thing is sure, the dragons are needed to keep everyone safe, especially with the new kind of Thread falling from the skies.[/align]
