Rayas scratched the back of his head as he stood outside the infirmary door. The first person that had been nice to him at Trelis was inside, and he felt kinda bad for her. She was sick, but he didn’t know why. After all, not many people spoke to him. He sighed, and finally decided to open the door, and go inside. Hey, I hope you don’t mind, but I brought you a little something. His voice was quiet and soft as he spoke. He was staring down at a little box that he had been holding for quite some time now.
Rayas’ mother had taught him how to cook. So when he heard that his friend was in the infirmary sick, he baked her a little batch of cookies. He hopped they would make her feel a little better. Even if all they did was make her smile. That’s all he was hoping to accomplish. After all, she had been so nice to him that day, and since he didn’t know that much about her, this was all he could do to show her that he thought of himself as her friend.

Iirla sat up slowly, blinking tiredly before recognizing Rayas. "Hey Rayas," she said, her voice cracking. She propped herself up on one arm for a moment before laying back. She wouldn't be going anywhere for at least the rest of the day. But she was pretty determined not to stay here for too much longer. She got sick often enough. That didn't mean that she needed to remain in bed endlessly. What kind of Junior Weyrwoman would that make her?
"Oh! Thank you Rayas. You didn't need to do that. I'm just glad to see you." She smiled warmly, though it was a tired smile. She held out a hand to him, which was a bit more pale than it probably should be. She was, in general, rather pale. But... she wasn't going to die or anything. "I hope the Weyr has been treating you better my friend," she said, letting her eyes slide shut again, though she still smiled gently. She was just tired, that was all. But... She was so glad to have some company. It was so lonely and boring down here.
Ama was curled up beside her under the blankets and, as she popped her head up to look at the new person, she wished to demand that he take care of her since Hers couldn't. Trivol was laying lazily by Iirla's head, enjoying himself and thinking he looked incredible there beside her. Like the royal prince who's purpose and pride was to make sure no one brought harm to her... Because if they did, then his glory would be lost. Not because she was his glory... but because that meant he had failed.

Rayas looked at Iirla, and wished there was something he could do to make her feel better. He watched her prop herself up, then lay back down. She really did look terrible, and he wondered if she felt as bad as she looked. I know I didn’t need to, but I wanted to. A small smile spread across his face as he spoke. He walked over to stand beside her, and gently wrapped his fingers around the hand that she had offered him.
No offense, but you look terrible. Do you never get any sun? Rayas teased Iirla gently, and even pointed at the difference between his own tanned skin, and her pale white skin. He lowered his head slightly at her next words, and thought about what to say. Well, it’s not exactly home, but it is slowly, very slowly getting easier. He looked at her face, and into her eyes. He shook his head at her, and wondered what to say next that wouldn’t embarrass either of them.
You know, you really should avoid situations that make you sick. You look funny when you’re sick. Rayas playfully stuck his tongue out at her as he spoke. He hopped that what he had heard was true, and that laughter really was a good medicine. Then he noticed her firelizards. He tilted his head at each of them, and wondered why the one he remembered as Ama was staring at him like she wanted to eat him.

D'rian stood up and brushed himself off, the last of the small shavings from the wood and dust falling to the floor. He'd been toying around with this idea for a while now, and had started working on it that day he and Iirla had had lunch, and been working on it almost nonstop since the day of the touching. She needed something to cheer her up and figured this would help. Kelath approved of course as did shigure.
The figure stood at about a foot high, a likeness of Izanycorth, curled around Iirla, with the flits settled on pillows looking self important and happy, the way they usually looked . Around the base, were pieces of smooth colored glass set in to make a slightly mosaiced base.
He was proud as he picked up the statuette and covered it with the soft leather he usually used to protect his sculptures until delivery.
"I'll be back later guys."
He went to the infirmary and rapped his knuckles lightly against the edge of a desk as he came in. Iirla was there, still pale, but she looked better than she had since he brought her here. The boy there. Rayas? He was the new weyrleader's son. She seemed comfortable with him, so D'rian made his mind up for her sake to give the guy the benefit of the doubt, and gave him a friendly smile.
"Sorry, I don't mean to interrupt... Iirla, I brought you something to help cheer you up. "

Iirla smiled and squeezed Rayas' hand gently. "Thank you for coming down here Rayas." She grinned at him. "Not enough apparently. I'm way too pale to say I get any at all!" She laughed, which was a light, breathy sound at this point. Not full or vibrant like it normally was. then... "That's good, Rayas... I hope that it continues to get easier."
She grinned a ttaht. "I suppose I should, but you know... I think that might be a little difficult..." Her smile, though weak, was warm, making her eyes spark. "Some of it comes with the position... and some of it... I'm really not sure where it's coming from, to be honest." She laughed again, weakly.
Then she heard the light knock of knuckles against wood and she sat propped herself up again and smiled warmly as she saw D'rian entering the room. "Hi D'rian," she said, trying to make her voice sound as normal as she could, though it took quite a bit of effort. "I don't suppose you have met Rayas?" She smiled as she introduced the boy. "Rayas, this is D'rian of Bronze Kelath."
"Oh... thank you, but you know you didn't have to bring me anything. I'm just glad you came to visit..." She smiled at both of them and patted the bed beside her. "Take a seat, D'rian... and you can show me."
Ama chose then to sit up and bolt over to D'rian, sitting on his shoulder and crooning at him. She liked this human now. She used to hate him.
"Her mind has certainly changed since we first met...? Hasn't it...?"

Vl’kan sighed and rubbed at his eyes. He was utterly exhausted and the day had only just begun. Thormyth was running his ragged almost. The quickly growing garnet was flying, betweening, and even chewing ‘stone…much to his delight of course. The young Istan just couldn’t keep up with it all. He needed a break, a vacation of sorts. Or at least a moment spent away from training and this cramped weyr of his. Little Starfie chirped from her spot at the top of the weyrlings bookcase and Vl’kan feared that she was about to launch into another one of her little rants, but instead the red huntyre simply ruffled her feathers and went back to her little nap.
Sighing with relief, Vl’kan quietly pushed himself to his feet and headed for the door. He needed out perhaps a little walk and checking in on an old friend would help to brighten his day, especially when a rumors been abound that said old friend was feeling under the weather. Maybe he could help cheer them both up.
Walking into the infirmary he hadn’t expected to run into anyone else, let alone that bronze weyrling and the weyrleaders son. Well shard it. Didn’t he feel out of place now? Hesitating in the doorway a moment, he contemplated just turning and leaving right there but then what kind of message would that send? Sighing inwardly, Vl’kan shoved in his hands into his pockets and walked further into the room, nodding lightly at a passing healer before he came to stand a good few feet from Iirla’s bed and the other two visitors.
“Don’t mean to interrupt, I just heard you were feeling a little under the weather so I thought I’d come by and see how you were doing. If you’re busy though I can come back later.” Offering her a light smile, he took the beginnings of a half step back, as if already certain that now wasn’t the best time for him to stroll in.

Rayas turned around quickly when he heard someone knocking. He didn’t recognize the person who entered the room, but soon enough, Iirla had introduced them. Greetings D’rian. He wasn’t exactly comfortable, and how could he be? For all he knew, this was one of the people that hated him because of who his father was. Though, the other man hadn’t said anything yet about it so that must have been a good sign right?
Rayas didn’t have too much time to think about it before yet another person entered the room. Wow, she really must be popular around the Weyr. That thought just made him even more uncomfortable. It didn’t help that he was surrounded by men and was sitting next to the only female in the room. For all he knew the two of them might gang up on him just for a chance to get close to Iirla. He bit his tongue to rid himself of the thought.
If you would like Iirla, I can come back later. That way you can spend some time with your friends here. Rayas’ voice was gentle and sweet as he spoke to the only friend he had in Trelis. It was obvious that both of the other guys in the room had known her longer, and surly she would want to spend some time with them since she couldn’t go to lessons or do chores yet. He didn’t get up to leave yet though, he was waiting to hear what she wanted him to do.

D'rian grinned and turned his head leaning into Ama with a soft hum he usually only reserved for Lene's little green Akiko.
"I know I never have to do anything Iirla sweetling. You also should know that that's never stopped me before. And I dont intend to let it stop me now. I also brought something for Ama and Trivol as well, since i know you've not really been at your best." He walked over and settled on the wider than normal healing bed, propping beside her pulling a smaller bottle of oil out of his bag and setting it on the bedside table.
"But you'll have to wait a minute little ones, okay? Let me just say that it is extremely more comfortable around you now that your little ama likes me."
His smile was genuine as he leaned across her offering Rayas his hand for a shake.
"Any friend of Iirla's is a friend of mine, Rayas. Nice to meet you..." another presence in the room made him turn his head and to his suprise V'lkan stood there. "V'lkan, it's been a while since I've seen you. How you been?"
Before he knew it both men looked like neither wanted to be there anymore, one asking Iirla if he should leave, and the other actually backing away. "Rayas. Sit. V'lkan get your rear in here and pull up a chair. Dont be fools you guys. You both came to help Iirla get better. So get in here and do your jobs!"
His heart was light and he knew that the more visitors she had the more loved she would feel. Hence the better she would feel. So he was all for having the guys stay if that's what Iirla wanted. He couldn't immagine her turning them away though. He smiled settling back with Iirla setting the lighter than it looked sculpture in her lap, then tugging the leather away. He hoped she liked it.

Iirla smiled as D'rian came and positioned himself beside her and couldn't help the light laugh that left her as he presented the oil and her two flitter immediately sat up crooning, Ama already on his shoulder, nuzzled him again before going to inspect the bottle while Trivol stocked over to D'rian, seemed to give him an approving look and settled on Iirla's chest to wait, watching this man with intense interest now. She grinned. "Ama can make being anywhere an entire hell..." She shook her head and the flitter chittered in protest.
Iirla smiled at Vl'kan as he arrived. "Please stay... both of you. There is another chair over there... You look like you have had it rough... Has Thormyth been running you ragged again...?" she looked concerned, but she was very happy to see him. He hardly seemed to have the time to anymore.
"Rayas... you don't need to worry. They won't bite you." She smiled at him, reaching over and gently patting his hand reassuringly before settling back against her pillows."
Vl'kan never seemed to be fully sure of himself... or maybe he was... But... saw things in a negative light...? If she could have gotten up or was in her full health, she might have greeted him with more excitement or a hug. She had missed seeing him. They had had quite a bit of fun at the Gather. Though they had been seeing less and less of each other lately.
Iirla at first looked at the covered statue, which was a curiosity... but... when the leather was pulled away.... Oh... Faranth... "D'rian..." she breathed, studying it appreciatively. "It's beautiful...." She gently stroked the edge of the wing, almost as if she was afraid that if she breathed on it too hard... it might break. "You must have been working on this for a long time.... Thank you... Thank you so much." She smiled and turned towards him carefully, making sure not to upset the statuette he had obviously spent so much time on and gave him a light peck on the cheek before flushing, realizing that there were others i the room still.
