{Takes place before the egg is stolen}
He glanced from side to side anxiously, doing his best to make sure no one was around as he snuck into the corridors. The lights were dim, obviously the glows hadn't been changed yet here, but that didn't bother J'degar. He was on a hunt of sorts today, but not an ordinary hunt. Where others would traverse these halls looking for tunnel snakes, he was looking for something much better... softer... cuter.
That's right, J'degar was on the hunt for felines. It was a secret passion of his; the felines, not hunting. He loved cats, kittens especially, but any form of the furry beasts made him happy. It was a secret he didn't want people to know about. He walked quietly down the corridor, looking for any sign of a feline's retreating form. He knew there were some in these halls somewhere; he had heard their meows plenty of times while passing by. A flash of movement around a corner caugth his eye and he peeked around to see a feline shape in the dim corridor.
"Here kitty..." He called softly as he sat where he was. A moment of soft beckoning passed before he tossed a few tidbits of dried meat from lunch on the ground for the feline to munch on.

D'rek came around the next curve of the cavern passage an immediately stopped. There was a boy-- a man, really --trying to lure his feline, Pounce, into eating some dried meat, "Here, kitty," the other male called, obviously trying to entice D'rek's pet to come closer. The Weyrling raised his eyebrows. Was thus guy... hunting felines? D'rek almost laughed. Looked like someone else had a passion for the small fuzzy animals.
The Weyrling crossed his arms and frowned. "Hey, what do you think you're doing?" He demanded. "That's my feline you're chasing! Pounce, c'mere." The black feline looked up from the meat scraps, polished them off hastily, and then trotted amiably to D'rek, where the Weyrling picked him up, cradling him in his arms. "If you're looking for a pet, try not to steal someone else's." He sounded angry, but he wasn't, really. He was actually amused. "If you want to find a wild one that no one has claimed, you'll have to go deeper, and be quieter. Pounce and I can help, if you want."
ooc: Hope this is okay. it was just too good of an opportunity to miss with D'rek and his love of cats/ all animals.

Aantara came running down the hall after a gray tabby male kitten at just about that time. "Rammos! Viia! Control your children, won't you!" She sighed and came to a skidding halt as she almost ran face first into D'rek. "Sorry!" Then she was off again. "Get back here you little!" She looked back and stopped. The little tabby and the others had also escaped. She sighed. Too bad her dragon didn't fit down here anymore. "Well... I guess I'll just feed 'em and hope they come back."
She turned and started walking back, flushed, her hair all over in a scattered mess that she quickly tried to fix before walking back by the males. She nodded to them and looked as if she would walk right by, her two cats in tow. Rammos, her male cat and the father of the kittens who had just run off, and Viia, their mother, trailing behind her, slinking after her. One was a gray tabby while the other was a calico, like one of the kits had been.
Why don't you talk to them... one is a brown rider from Southern and one is a Garnet rider... and, dearie, you could use a little... companionship. So come on sweetie... get to some talkin.
Hush Sularth!
((Sorry... short...))

Shards and shells! There had been no one around a moment ago! Where in Pern had this brat come from? J'degar jumped up in surprise as he took notice of D'rek. The brat, apparently a weyrling if J'degar was seeing the knots right, made an accusation about the nearby feline.
"Stealing pets? You've got some nerve boy, making accusations like that." His face had gone red in the darkness as he realized the boy had seen him in the act of feeding. "I wouldn't want some mangy feline for a pet anyways. The sharding thing is half starved, you should take better care of it." There. That sounded defensive right, as if he was only trying to check the well being. Of course, he hadn't been expecting the boy to offer to help him find a cuddly, adorable... err... menacing and fearless... feline of his very own.
"Well. If that's the state a pet is in I can only imagine how sick and pathetic the wild ones are..." He mumbled back, trying to find an excuse to go see more of the cats without actually giving away the fact that he loved felines. No doubt he was failing miserably though. "I should... I should go make sure they aren't dying..." Suddenly a small grey cat went charging past, following by a woman that almost hit the weyrling brat head on. He raised an eyebrown. Seriously, these halls were usually abandoned! That was when he spotted the two cats following behind the woman in instinctively dropped down to pet one.
"Well aren't you ador-" He stopped mid sentence, realizing what he had almost said. "I mean.. Aren't you a well groomed and attractive feline." A cough was added in an attempt to hide his discomfort. Stupid felines. Stupid people. He shouldn't have come down here today...

Aantara stopped again. "Sorry D'rek. Oh... if either of you are willing to help me round up for kittens, you can both take your pick of one. Rammos and Viia's little babies didn't all find homes last gather. It's quite a handful for me to take care of on my own."
Viia arched her back into J'degar's hand while Rammos twitched his tail irritably and walked over to Aantara, not even waiting for her to prepare to catch him as he jumped up at her and landed in her arms as she petted and loved the feline, cooing to him adoringly. He twitched his tail and pressed against her hand. These were her babies since she couldn't have her own daughter with her anymore. It just... didn't work.
"So, we have a deal?"
Viia mewled and rubbed against J'degar again, rather appreciatively.
((Sorry... sHort. >.<))

D'rek stumbled as Aantara bumped into him, but he caught himself before he fell. Steadying himself, he nearly missed the girl's next words... he could have a kitten!
"You mean I can have one? A kitten?!" His eyes lit up. "Okay, Pounce! Let's go find the little scamps! Then we'll bring a new one home! Oh, Emiath will be pleased!" As odd as it was, both dragon and rider, as cruel as they could be, loved felines.
Grabbing J'degar by the arm, D'rek spun him around. "Come on! You too, Aantara! With all three of us looking we'll find them in no time! And J'degar, she said we can keep one! But I call first pick! Now come on, you guys are taking absolutely forever!"

What was that? Free kittens? YES PLEASE! J'degar had to work hard to stop the giddy smile from spreading across his face. He was a man dammit. And real men did not get mushy over adorable fluffballs, especially not adorable baby fluffballs. He stroked Viia happily as she arched into his palm. So, if he helped round up the cats he would get to take one? not a bad deal, but he couldn't outright agree to it... again, the man had to keep a shred of dignity after all.
He grumbled under his breath, trying to decide what to, when suddenly he was whipped away from where he was kneeling by a hand on his arm. "Wh-what do you think you're doing?!" He sputtered, red-faced in shock. What was with this guy? Was it actually a guy? No man should be that outwardly excited about kittens in public. In the privacy of ones home perhaps, but not here. Regardless, with a forced grumble of anoyance, he was dragged along.
