“Now where oh where did I see that little lovely…” Muttering softly to himself, F’lon quickly closed the cabinet he had been rummaging through and moved to the far side of the room and immersed himself in a half open drawer. Old habits died hard and F’lon was hardly an exception to that rule. Ever since that distressing day on the hatching sands when that little amethyst had wandered his way and chosen to touch his mind, the thief had sunk even deeper into his wicked ways.
It was late. How late exactly he wasn’t sure, but the weyr was deathly silent and still. There was no moon out tonight, the thick layer of clouds had it successfully hidden from view. This let the resident thief and two time murderer to slip about under the cover of darkness unchallenged. He had initially started at the bottom of the weyr, rummaging through the storage corridors for anything of interest and had steadily worked his way higher. Currently he found himself in the darkened bedchambers of some poor fool. The room had been empty when he arrived, the thief could only assume that the usual occupant was off keeping someone else’s bed warm this night.
It was a room he had visited once before and it is why he found himself here once more this night. “C’mon now…where is it..” Another hushed whisper entered the still air around him as he dropped into a chair and scooted closer to the desk before he tore into the contents of another drawer. He was close to giving up, nearly about to call it quits for the night, when his fingers brushed against cool metal. A twisted little grin played with his features as he twined the metal form in his grasp and carefully pulled it out to be examined.
Due to the darkness he was currently seated in, F’lon couldn’t quite make out the details of the statue in his hands but as his fingers trailed over every nook and cranny of the object he was able to paint a mental picture for himself. It was a six inch, finely crafted sculpture of a dragon in flight and in the midst of a battle. It was perfect, exactly what he had been searching for. Smirking, quite pleased with himself, he pulled out a tattered strip of cloth from his pocket and carefully wrapped up his new possession.
Rising from his seat he was about to turn and leave when a soft scraping reached his ears. Instantly his head snapped to the door and his eyes narrowed to cut through the darkness. Had he been followed? Was it even possible? His smirk faded into a scowl as he strained his ears to try and catch any hint of the possible intruder. After a moment of listening and no other sounds were to be heard, F’lon steadily released his grip on the hidden blade at his side and proceeded to finish up his work, quickly dismissing the idea of anyone being able to sneak up on him.

Pan had been snoozing in one of the little alcoves when a strange figure passed by. Or, perhaps not that strange. The greenrider from Ista peaked around the corner as she tip-toed after the young man, smirking as she saw him go into a room. Yeah, Mine, that's our room. Iliath's gentle hiss in the rider's mind jerked her to her senses. Well, well, my love. Looks like the thief is trying to steal something then. She had had her own bit of fun with that of course. It wasn't even that long ago that Pan had made her last job. She had previously taken a few marks from a man she had danced with at the hatching feast.
Old habits died hard as they said though, and the young woman couldn't help herself really. Besides, with S'vrin out of her hair, she kind of needed something to keep her busy. Besides of course those lovely weyrlings she'd been put in charge of. Oh yes, and wasn't that a bother earlier today? Again, Iliath crooned in Hers' mind. Her spinning eyes watched the boy as he entered Hers' weyr, and the green placed a wing over her head to cut the glare. That was probably the sound he heard really, and she laughed silently in her rider's mind at his reaction.
He scares easier than you do. Not everyone had to deal with S'vrin as a leader though love. Pan's retort was fast and to the point as she waited outside her weyr. From a crack in the door, she could see the young man, boy, whatever, take something small, but metallic. No! It was S'vrin's statue of a bronze dragon fighting thread. It was actually something his younger sister had, but he had given her after she died. Shaking her head to clear away the feelings and memories, Pan grit her teeth. Oh yes, this little thief would pay. She'd wait for him to come out of the weyr, her weyr, then she'd ambush him and try to hold him down on the floor. That always works.
He looks bigger than you. Oh shard it! Sighing, Pan settled for just following him out, preferably to some open space first. If she could just get him into the open, perhaps by his own accord would be best too, then Iliath could swoop down and pin him down with her foot! There we are my devious Panille. That's much more like it. The green's seductive purr was a caress to Pan's mind, and the thought made her smile with pride. Yeah, that's exactly what she'd do.

After his moment of paranoia faded, F’lon quickly finished wrapping up his new treasure and hurriedly shut the desk drawer. He spared a quick glance at the door and scoffed lightly at his previous thoughts. As if someone could actually turn the tables on this well traversed thief! Shaking his head F’lon gave the room one last sweep before slipping out the door and quietly inching it shut behind him. Ah yes, another pilfering pulled off without a hitch. His heart was racing, he was high on the rush of adrenaline and loving every minute of it.
That’s probably why he didn’t hear the soft patter of feet against the stone floor or catch the glimpse of his pursuers elongated shadow twisting in the low light. After all, who did he have to fear? No one from Trelis that was for certain. They were all soft, pushovers, pathetic really as far as he was concerned. That’s why he had slipped away at the first chance all those years ago. He smirked at the memory. He had been young and foolish when he left but not now, not anymore. Now he had become trapped within the walls of the one place he so desperately wished to escape, forever bonded to that bloody creature that now crawled through his every thought and feeling.
F’lon shook his head to erase those thoughts. It wasn’t doing him much good to continue to dwell on the past so much, especially since there was nothing he could possibly do about it. Feeling the solid weight of the sculpture in his hands managed to drag him out of his thoughts and back down to the present. Just in time it would seem really. As he left the halls and submerged himself in the pitch black of the weyrbowl, as it was a quick shortcut to the weyrling barracks, he heard the rustle of wings behind him. A quick glance over his shoulder revealed to him a large, dark figure almost bearing down on him.
The shock of being crept up on without him knowing shocked the resident thief to the point where he somehow managed to trip up over his own feet and land flat on his back. A vicious string of swearing escaped him as he looked up at the fully grown, and seemingly agitated dragon, looming over him. “Bloody--…the whole weyrbowl is empty and you decide to practically land on top of me?!” He shot the creature a sharp glare, now highly agitated himself, and began to pick himself off the floor, cursing and brushing sand from his clothes. If there was a rider nearby, F’lon couldn’t see and he really couldn’t care at this point in time. He was too worked up over the fact that this dragon interrupted his moment of solitude and could have crushed him in the bowls darkness.

Iliath crooned as she felt her clawed foot wrap around the young man's shape. She lowered her green head to him, leveling one swirling eye to his face. Of course I landed on you silly boy. You stole Mine's possession. Give it back and maybe, just maybe I'll let you go. Her croon was deceptively sweet sounding, though she knew this one would most likely see through that. He was smart, but he also was foolish to her. Nothing like you DarlingMine. She crooned to her rider, folding her wings beside her body.
Pan shook her red hair out behind her, smiling as she cast vivid green eyes out around the Weyr Bowl to where the boy was. "Seems we caught a thief Iliath. What should we do with him?" She smiled, lowering herself so that she was besides the boy. "What's your name sweetheart. I think I should at least know that." She feigned a flirtatious smile and flipped her hair, reaching out to perhaps search for the statue. It was hers, not his. Iliath hissed slightly, pleased at her rider.
"You know, that really was pathetic work. You shouldn't have even tried going into a weyr with a dragon in it. I'd have looked for that first you dimglow. Just what do they teach you in holds these days? When I was younger, well," Panille smirked, "that doesn't quite matter now does it?" She frowned as she looked up at Iliath. "Isn't this one of the ones who just impressed at that Queen's clutch?" The greenrider looked at the boy again, curious now.
Tilting her head to the side, the green warbled lightly. I suppose Mine. Does it matter though? Can't we just... "No." The word was firm, and Pan narrowed her eyes, looking up at the toxic green head which flashed white with a show of fangs. "So, where's your dragonet? I can't imagine that they'd be okay with you sneaking off...at least without them." She laughed as she tagged on that part. Oh yes, I always gave you plenty of grief over leaving me behind.

F’lon struggled slightly in the dragons grasp but gave in with a rough sigh of annoyance as he eyed the green. “Now I don’t like the word ‘steal’. I prefer the term acquired, and if you were a better dragon you would have been able to stop me and my oh so wicked ways from acquiring this little something from right under your nose.” F’lon turned his mischievous grin from the dragon to a new arrival. Well of course this green’s rider would have to be nearby. He kept his thoughts to himself as he watched the woman lower herself to his level and her hand began to search his torso for the statue.
“The name’s F’lon and ah…” He paused, smirking as he looked her up and down. “..if you’re going to want a full body search then you need to call off this dragon of yours and order a few wine skins from the kitchens.” His cocky little smirk stay plastered on his face as he continued to look her over, even daring to throw a wink her way. Oh she could try to locate her little statue but she would have to let her hands wander quite far seeing as he had managed to safely tuck it into the top of his left boot, beneath his pants, before her feisty little dragon managed to pin him.
“And as for my dragonet I don’t think that’s any concern of yours. Me being the good little rider that I am, made sure my companion was tucked in and fast asleep before I wandered out this night.” Shifting slightly on the ground, F’lon stretched his hands and wiggled his feet a bit, being pinned was slowly losing its previous entertaining aspect. Especially as he would rather had her pinning him down then say her 17 foot dragon body guard.

Pan jerked her hand away when the weyrling made that unsightly comment. "No thanks. I've sworn off boys for a while. Besides, do you want your dragonet to between?" She hissed slightly at that, as did Iliath. It was dangerous for any sort of relationship to occur before a bonded was six months old. Her own weyrlings knew that, she hoped.
Iliath looked at the boy, tilting her head to one side. Should I let him go Mine? Or can I just eat him? The green crooned, pleased at that idea. "No, you're not going to eat him. You wouldn't harm him unless he harmed me, and you know it." The dragoness snorted, as if to say she would, but nothing else touched Panille's mind. "So, give me back the statue, and maybe we can actually have a normal conversation....thief to thief...or con-artist to thief I should say."
The greenrider fancied herself more of a trickster than a flit burglar to be honest. Iliath looked at Hers, her eyes spinning orange and yellow. Do you really trust him? No, but he doesn't have a reason to trust us either. Sometimes you have to just give in and be first. Iliath seemed to sigh and let her wings rustle against the ground as she let the boy go. "There...now give me the statue. Please. Don't run either, she'll just snap you up, maybe this time with her mouth too."
Iliath warbled at this, pleased with the idea of grabbing the boy by his shirt or some other appendage instead if she could reach it. "Not unless he runs." Pan's voice was level, but dangerous. She meant it, and Iliath could tell. Fine. The green huffed, but did as she was told. "So, who is your bonded?" Panille looked around, as if expecting the raucous to have aroused the little dragonet to find His or Hers.

He sighed dramatically once she pulled her searching hand away and shot her inquiries at him. Of course he was well aware of that little fact. If there was ever a rule F’lon disliked the most, that would be the one on the very top of his list, yet it was the one he was bound not to break. A few moments passed between them in silence and the man could only assume she was speaking to her dragon. So he remained relatively still with that cocky little grin playing at his features and his fingers idly tapping away at the ground. Calm for the most part. That was until he heard mention of the phrase “eat him” pass the lovely ladies lips and he tried his very hardest not to allow his face to reveal that flicker of unease that rippled through his body.
Finally, after what seemed like forever, the clawed foot that had been holding him down softened its grasp before lifting away completely. F’lon grimaced as his ribs relaxed back to their natural position, after all, meaning to or not, she had been exerting a fair amount of pressure against him but still, as quick as he could, he climbed to his feet and dusted himself off. He eyed her carefully for a moment before slowly reaching down to where he hid the statue in his boot and grudgingly made a move to hand it over. She allowed him to live so he would give back what was hers. Simple really. Perhaps there was honor among thieves after all.
He was still brushing himself off when her next question came and he shot a look her way. “Aphath; the little skull marked Amethyst from Maele-” He wasn’t given the opportunity to finish as no sooner as her name left his lips did the quick, pitter-patter of young dragon claws on a mission fill the air around them. Mine, oh oh! Are you okay F’lonLoveMine?! I felt your pain and came running straight away. I told you to be careful and that your bad habits would get you in trouble! Careening around a corner with claws frantically scrabbling at the slick stone beneath the little amethyst bust into the area where Hers and Pan stood. With a nervous and upset sounding whine, Aphath kicked in her brakes too late and, of course, ran straight into F’lon, successfully throwing him right back on the ground.
Groaning the man winced as his ribs were struck again and struggled to pull himself to his feet once more. Slow down, I’m fine. But remind me to teach you the element of stealth. With eyes swirling a worried/upset orange and red, Aphath looked from the BigGreen and Hers to finally her own dusty and sore life-mate. Don’t hurt him again. He doesn’t mean to be bad. Her voice must have rarely reached out to touch everyone’s mind there as she turned to nuzzle the mans leg. “There you go… you upset the baby, happy?” F’lon asked just to give her a hard time really, knowing, or hoping, it wasn’t intentional to upset the little dragon. Subconsciously his hand drifted to the skull marked face by his leg and rubbed her eye ridges soothingly. He groaned inwardly to himself; it was going to take forever to get her back to sleep now!

Panille wanted to kick herself when the young hatchling came running out to meet Hers. The Amethysts and Opals were close to her heart since they first were seen on Ista, since their first colors were impressed thanks to her effort. She looked down at Aphath now with a mixture of adoration and sorrow. It was a heavy reminder of what she had left behind as well. "Yes, I did. I'm sorry, we would never hurt your rider Aphath, but he took something of mine.." She held up the statue that F'lon had recently returned for the the dragonet to see. "Everything's good now though."
Iliath crooned as the Amethyst spoke. She was sweet, and childish yes, but she had a certain spark to her as well it seemed. The green approved of this more than anything else. Don't worry Young One. I wouldn't actually eat Yours, just threaten. It's so much more fun. Her croon was a husky purr as she slid her body to a laying position and wrapped her tail around Pan's form at her feet. The rider sat on the tail on the thicker part, motioning for F'lon to get comfortable wherever he could if he wished. "So, how long have you been in the business?"
She played sweet, as if there was nothing unordinary about thieving as a trade. It was just another craft to her really, one that was a bit more...interesting than let's say being a Harper. Pan pushed back her dark red hair and flicked her eyes up at the stars, tracing different constellations she had learned with her sight. "Did you think you'd actually end up impressing her? It's strange isn't it....you are so sure you won't, that it would be better not to...then it happens anyway, as if the world could care less about your plans. Then it just topples everything upside down, and honestly, you could care less at that point."
She looked at F'lon again, her vivid green eyes flashing in the semi-darkness. "You have everything you could ever want suddenly."

F’lon cocked an eyebrow at the interaction between con-artist and his own dragonet. Was he hearing things or was there really a genuine soft side to her voice as she spoke? His green eyes idly wandered to the statue-his statue- she was so callously waving around and idly his fingers briefly flexed out of reflex at his side. Why had he given in so easily and handed back what he had rightly pilfered? F’lon sighed inwardly and kicked himself mentally for the moment of weakness. Women; he should have known better.
Aphath continued to look from both the Big Green and hers before finally coming to the conclusion that Her’s was in no more danger and began to visibly calm down. Her eyes slowly calmed their frantic swirling and slowly began to return to a steady green hue. F’lon patted the white marked head once more in reassurance before returning his attention to Pan. “Me? Shards…it’s been oh, going on nine turns now since I found I was able to put my skills to good use in this interesting little dark craft. And how long have you dabbled in the dark?” He eyed her as she sat on the tail of her green and seemed to offer him a seat as well. She was joking right? Her dragon had just got done trying to crack his ribs together and as much as he would have enjoyed seeing how close she would have let him get, he decided to settle for the safer but dirtier option. F’lon motioned with his hand to dismiss the offer and instead, grudgingly, found his own seat back of the dusty floor, only this time he was able to lean his back against the nearby wall. It wasn’t overly comfortable but it would do for now at least.
“No, I can honestly say I wasn’t expecting her to come and choose me out of all people.” F’lon idly ran a hand through his hair at the memory and shook his head lightly as he watched his little Aphath wander over to where he was sitting and curled up beside him, twining her tail around his legs. “Definitely didn’t see this one coming. But I also didn’t see my son coming along as well and that shook my world up pretty good as well, in more ways then one.” He fell silent for a few moments after saying this, shocked himself for even mentioning his son to someone he barely knew. Clearing his throat he brushed the thought aside and flicked his attention her way once more intent on changing the subject and fast. “So how’s that cousin of mine and that Garnet of his fairing during your lessons? Causing trouble as is in our bloodline?”

Panille smiled fondly at the memory of her first steal. It had been what...oh she had forgotten by now. "I started when I was a candidate. My roommate was stolen from. Her older brother helped me to steal it back....I miss her...I miss them both, though I know I shouldn't." Well, she shouldn't miss S'vrin. His younger sister though was someone that she had known well. It was still hard to believe she was gone, even after two and a half turns.
Then he was answering her other question, and she smirked as she caught...was that a hint of happiness in his eyes? Pan's lips curved up in a devious little smile. So he did have a hea...."You have a kid?" Well, shardit that ruined things. "Didn't the mom let you see him?" She tilted her head, pushing away her own memories of being left alone as a child. Her parents had all but abandoned her after birth...or her mother had.
Her arms wove around herself tightly, a slight shiver coursing through her spine. She pushed that away too. Oh him! The rider is not all that bad...the dragon. I enjoy a cunning mind, but he's.... "Impossibly arrogant and sharding stupid sometimes about how the world actually works?" Pan offered an ending for her dragoness' thought. Yes.
Turning to F'lon with a laugh she titlted her head again letting her auburn hair fall in front her face partially. "I don't remember if I ever even told you my name. Panille...that's Iliath." She stretched her legs out then, laying back along the length of her green's tail. Iliath curled up happily, crooning to Hers before setting her gaze on the nearby boy and his amethyst. Do you think he knows?
The greenrider froze momentarily then forced herself to relax. Stealing away a brief glance at the weyrling, she swallowed. Her hands brought the statue up to her stomach, setting it there and tracing the features. If he does, we'll find out I'm sure. Not many knew the whole story about Panille. They might know she was from Ista, they might know she helped take the candidates to the hatching. Very few knew that she had been S'vrin's right-hand girl despite the color of her dragoness. That was one secret she'd rather not have out in the open.

F’lon shifted his weight against the wall till he regained a comfortable spot and returned his glance to where she was seated. He had to force the scowl from his face as she mentioned his son, knowing full well it was his own fault for letting it slip into the conversation in the first place. “Yes, my son. Though if you could still call him that, I’m not sure. I haven’t been allowed to see the boy since he was born and that was nearly…oh.. two and half turns ago at least.” The thief dropped his gaze and stared hard at his boots for a few moments as he fought to keep the memories where they belonged; in the back of his mind. “It’s not by choice mind you,” he added almost defensively as a slightly heated look was aimed her way.
Catching the wave of emotions flooding from Hers, Aphath crooned softly and nuzzled into the mans side as her tail wound a little tighter around his legs. She was here now, there was no need to become upset. Out of habit he reached out and scratched her eye ridges, easily falling into a moment of silence as his mind wandered.
The movements of the larger green dragged him back to the present in time to catch the next round of words to enter the dark night air. “It’s always a pleasure to meet another who works in the more exotic crafts.” Another momentary pause as this time a yawn gripped him, easily stealing the ability to speak for the time being. “Panille, huh? You came over with the Istan dragonets. Yeah…” F’lon nodded his head softly as if recalling a memory. “My cousin told me briefly about the antics that went on there. Though I get the feeling he left out a lot of the finer details…”
Fed up with sitting on the ground and dealing with the sensation of rocks digging into his legs and back, the dark haired man climbed to his feet and began brushing himself off. “For example, he mentioned a conniving bronze rider in charge of the whole dark operation. What ever happened to him? I wouldn’t mind plotting with a character such as that.”

"NO!"
Panille's shout was a surprise as much to her as it was probably to F'lon. She gritted her teeth together, her body becoming rigid as she sat up suddenly. Iliath responded to the change in mood by hissing low, her eyes swirling reds and yellows. "Don't ever say that. He's horrible...he's........" Pan shook her head. How could this weyrling want to work with him? S'vrin was a lot of things. Clever, amusing, exciting.....cruel and dark as well especially since his sited had died. "He left....with some of the wing."
There it was. The wing, not his wing. She hadn't meant to, and maybe the subtle wording was lost on F'lon. Panille doubted it. Green eyes closed as she bit her tongue quite literally. "I'm amazed Palirath didn't force u...them all between. They were so angry.....I don't....I don't blame them. He was an awful man F'lon. If your son were of importance, he might have been...he might have been taken too. Sure they were returned...the things he could make you believe though."
The greenrider shivered, Iliath curling her tail and neck around the young woman's form. She put a hand to her head, the other to touch the acid green neck. She didn't want to hear that voice ever again. "I hope he's dead. Lost between or rotting in some patch of soil." Her words were venomous but her eyes portrayed something else entirely. Then she changed, and Pan wrapped herself in that mask she wore whenever this subject came up. She wasn't about to be effected by it. By the things she had done, no matter how bad they had been.
Faranth she could still feel Leotie's weight in her arms as she carried her off into the night on Iliath's neck. She could still feel the feathers pass her fingertips when she had sent that arrow down into the gather those months ago. That's why she could never let anyone know. A shiver crept down her spine again, and her arms wrapped around herself tighter. If anyone understood coming back from a place they regretted, it would be the man in front of her.
I don't trust men though. Not anymore, and women aren't always much better. I trust you, and I trust myself. Iliath crooned in agreement, a dark hiss following in its undertone. Of course. We will prove them all wrong. It's good to see you be free again Mine. You were caged for far too long. It's a pitty that the whole time you were the one with the key. Panille nodded her head. Looking at Aphath, she shook her head. "He's still alive though. I just know he is." Looking up to stare at F'lon, Panille tried to catch his eyes. "Promise me you'll never go to see him. For her sake...he'd sooner kill her than allow her to live even half a life."
