Aridani smiled sheepishly as she held the egg, entirely unsure of what she was supposed to do. Should she be warming it? Or just holding it like it was? She had never been so close to a hatching before, always pushed out of the way by people who could talk and ask for eggs. Luckily, she didn't have to worry about what to do for long, soon the egg was rocking in her hand and Ari panicked.
It was rocking. It was moving! Would the baby like her? Would it stay? What if it picked someone else? Soon the thoughts were shoved away as a beautiful purr came from within the egg, followed by a carefully moving hatchling. Or at least.. the hatchling's head, which quickly retreated back into the egg before the rest of its body made its way out.
Oh you are darling... Ari thought, her eyes wide in amazement at just how stunning the small creature was, though she was afraid the hatchling would choose someone else... it hadn't seemed to notice her. Then suddenly Ari was looking down into whirling eyes and realized the fire lizard had noticed her. Another beautiful tone came from the creature before it started making its way up her arm.
A look of surprise escaped her as she actually felt a bond in her mind. She could feel it. This little darling in her mind. Her beautiful sapphire darling. Oh sweetling... I wish I had words to describe this. She thought as she gazed down at the oddly coloured flitter. Suddenly a feeling of calm understanding hit her, and she realized it wasn't her own thoughts, but that of the creature. Had it understood her thoughts? Ari gazed at the sapphire, staring into its calm eyes for only a moment before the full realization hit her.
This hatchling, just out of it's shell, could understand her. It could understand her in a way no one had ever done in her life. They could feel eachother... it was strange. It was wonderful. They were in harmony. A tear slid down her cheek as she looked back at D'tri and Iona, the gratitude she felt obvious in her posture. She would never be able to thank them enough. They had brought her more than a friend. They had brought her Harmony. She felt a soft pressure as the hatchling nuzzled against her once more, a motion of approval at the name.
She's wonderful, Ari wanted to say, a smile gracing her features as Harmony shrinked away, surprised at the sound of D'tri's voice. A hand automatically moved to calm the darling, and after a moment, Harmony chirped shyly back at her mother.
